How Long Ago Did You Start?

Hello fellow warriors, it's been officially a week since I've been a member and have already learned a LOT. I've been spending 2+ solid hours everyday here, i'd spend more if I wasn't working full time and going to school.

My question for all you warriors is, how long ago did you start and what are the ballpark figures of what you make now?

I am 20 years old and I gave myself three whole years to be making a five figure income monthly. So a few answers would be extremely appreciated just so I could get a better understanding of how big the possibility is. Again, I thank ALL of you for making my dream of owning a business from only a laptop with internet connection possible.

I started out like you, almost exactly. Started at 20yrs old with nothing.

Took me 2 years to make a consistent $1 online

I am 23 now with a steady 5-figure income and financially free.

Good luck and follow your dreams.

Think, would you still be doing it if you haven't made money for 2 years. If you are like me and answer "yes" then you will make it. - Once I started making money, I found it very easy to make more.

Granted, 2 years is a hugely unrealistic timeframe to not make money, I put it down to lack of focus on one thing.

I remember the first time i learn about IM. It was about 2 years ago. Make 10 sites and get my first income with adsense only $0.72 after 3 months of work! LOL

But i never give up, even though people around me said that i should stop doing it. Just a complete waste of time.

Along the way, i came up with a game plan for my own SEO formula that works.

Fire my boss last weeks and now i work full time online, not making thousands of dollars a month (yet), but i make enough to go into that direction. *fingers crossed*

Totally agree on this one, after a year of only making a few hundred bucks. I never even think of quitting. I said to my self, "If i can make money $10 online, then i should be able to make more!"

Good luck there buddy. IM is such a fantastic world to dive in.

Wow, how coincidental, you are the product of what I am and what I want to be. Is your steady 5-figure income going to be a six figure soon? And yes. I am willing to still be doing it without making any money after two years, but that's the limit, anymore and I'm out haha. But no, ultimately I'd want to work only from a laptop with internet connection so I could go visit anywhere in the world and still be in business.

Its been 2yrs of part time work and I've not reached my goal yet...perhaps because I lack focus and time constraints.

        Yes, that's the plan!

Believe me I quit a couple of times during those first 2 years. but only for a week or two at a time, then I cam crawling back.

It's amazing how a life-sucking day job can keep you motivated to succeed in your dreams!

Just don't get "comfortable" in your job.

You are a brave man indeed !!!
If i were you, i doubt whether i can keep it on in such a long time. i started online marketing early this year, and have not made any money yet. Some times i doubt whether it is worth or not. My dream is to make 3000$ per month the next year, hope it comes true.

This is a really broad question because no one marketer is the same. How much success you see depend on how well you grasp the material for whatever method you are learning and how well you implement it. Also, there are some methods that make money faster than others. The key is to learn a legit method and work it until you see success. Whether your expectations are reasonable or not really depends on you. There are people in here that make money after a few months. It takes others years.

    Good luck.

I started in 1994 (hmm - yes, I am a dinosaur!) whilst at Uni. Did it part time until 2006 - then went full time. Now making 6 figures - but took a while for me to get serious. i had a site that was ticking along making $300 a month profit with 30 mins of work per month - nice beer money! Did nothing with it for 3 years. Then thought WTF? This is a nice little site, why am i not giving it any attention. Spent about 80 hours on it (ramped up Adwords, did some more SEO, gave the website some loving, employed a VA), and then it grew at about 15% per month for the next 2 years. It now generates $100k of profit on its own.

So it is not just time/experience (it doesnt happen by osmosis!) - for me it was focus - deciding I was going to get serious about one of my sites, then putting in the time and energy necessary to really get it cranking.

Last month we had our first real drop in sales in 12 months. Scary! But it has been worthwhile as I have reviewed all of our data - traffic, conversions, net visitor value, traffic sources, profit margins etc etc - and now have a renewed enthusiasm for diversifying our traffic sources and increasing our non-Google traffic. This will make the business stronger and ensure we are immune to any nasty Google surprises that might occur in the future.

Head down, bum up and best of luck!

    Cheers
    Gerbs

Started back in March, so about 7 months ago. IM is paying for my university tuition and everything else! Took me about a month before I found profit though.

    Hi There,
We started around 2 years ago, it was a hard slog partly because there is so much hype out there so beware not to get drawn in, if anyone tells you they can show you how to make $20,000 by next week then walk away.
We eventually started to make headway and with the system we used after about 6 months we made over $30,000 in sales in about two weeks.
We then went on to secure our very first $900 day which was amazing, i remember driving down the motorway and my wife Elaine was looking on her iphone saying "another sale", this was in the photography niche, just one of our niche's.
I still do remember the very first money we made though, a cheque landed on the floor for $27,00 and i was amazed, someone had bought a product we had created.
stick with it but just watch out for all the hype out there, this is the biggest thing that holds people back.

    All the best,
    Steven

Middle of 2008 I needed a site for my offline business. I had one built, but the SEO sucked so I had to learn. Spent all my money on the site so I started learning the process.

After about a year building up my offline business site and building up my business as a result, I discovered IM. The thought of making money without any office overhead and expensive staff and no customer service sounded fantastic.

In one month I'll be F/T into IM having sold my offline biz and building up my IM business to a living income. I have far more fun online than off.

Started toying around with IM in mid 2009. Got serious about it in April 2010.
