Moving a website - Are there any downsides?

I need to move an old well established website of mine from a webhost which is closing down, to one of my other reseller accounts.

Has anyone ever noticed any damage to their rankings by moving a website?

If so, do you have any tips on how to limit any damage?

Actually moving the site and getting it set up properly again isn't a problem. I am just concerned about rankings.

In other words how does google treat a transferred website, or does it not make any difference?

Because I have to use a new host, I am also considering moving the site to its own unique IP address which would be within a safe C class range with a good host. Up to now it has been on a shared server with a shared IP address.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

    I moved a site recently and a #1 ranking for a 2 keyword phrase stayed exactly where it was before the move.

    I've moved hundreds of sites and never seen any change to the ranking. Just get it done smoothly and quickly.

    One thing you should remember is to make sure the server your re-locating too is in the same country as your current one.

      If the site is going to be hosted on the same domain as before, then I can't see why the SE's would view your website as being any different than before..

      Its still the same website, same content, same structure and same whois info..

      So it hard to see them viewing the website any differently..
