What is with this limitations?

Started using WF and got cold shower by all the limits. Wanted to make post with a link for some debate. WF says NO, wanted to send Private message, WF says NO! I am left limited now and in need to pump up my posts so i can do what i want, this is pretty big turnoff now :-(

The system is set up in that way in order to avoid spam messages :-)

To be able to "do what you want" is never going to be an option, regardless of post-count until you buy the site.

There are reasons for everything and the quicker you contribute to the forum with good relevant posts, the quicker the options of linking and PMing will become available.

Increase your post-count or buy the site and make the rules yourself, they're your only two options.

Even when the limits are lifted, if you post links back to your own sites to self promote or spam people via pm, you're going to find yourself more than limited.

If you post a bunch of crap posts just to raise the limits, you'll probably find the posts get deleted.

Just try contributing and being a good member. It's more rewarding in the long run.

Even if you get your post count up - you can't 'do what
    you want.'

You'll still have to follow the rules here like any other member.

The rules are there for a reason.

Focus on contributing some useful posts to the forum
and then you'll EARN more privileges.

If that's too much effort, then consider going elsewhere.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

Can you imagine a street without speed limits? Me neither. They exist for a good reason.

The limits you're bumping into didn't just appear out of thin air, nor are they arbitrary rules to keep you from doing what you want.

They came about in response to people before you abusing the privileges participation brings - like links in posts and sending PMs. Adding limits accomplished a couple of things.

First, many of the drive-by spammers discovered the rules and went elsewhere looking for easier pickings. They didn't want to 'waste time' with even the minimal limitations we have around here.

Second, it helps identify the spammers with more ambition. Usually, they make a bunch of lame one-line posts as fast as they can in order to be able to 'do what they want to do', and the intent is as obvious as the nose on your face.

Which leaves you with two choices...

Abide by the rules, participate in the community, and gain your privileges soon enough, or

Don't let the door hit you where the Good Lord split you...

The limitations might be there for good reasons. Think about it. When you joined, and you get excited and you go about posting and breaking rules. That will just create headaches for you and others.

But this limitations allows you to slowly learn about the culture of this forum, and strive to share to get the limitations removed, while at the same time build your rep.

I think thats good doesnt it?

actually I can... I lived in Montana during the "Safe and Prudent" era... as in the interstates literally had no speed limit. The state figured that as long as people drove safely, it would be ok to let them do what they wanted. Then race car drivers started driving through at 120 mph (because "I'm trained for these speeds, so it's safe"), people started copying them, and the speed limit got put back in a hurry.

Long story short, rule like that exist to protect yourself and others. See the post limitations for linking and PMs as an opportunity to get to know the forum and the rules so you don't get yourself banned just because you didn't know. If you absolutely can't wait, buy a membership to the war room - but still make sure you read the rules!

Hello! I am new here too. I have to say that I do understand why the limits are there. I've been around the net for long enough and run forums for long enough to know how much of a pain spammers are and that certain measures often need to be in place to combat them.

I do empathise with markosef though, it can be frustrating when you're new to a forum and you want to contribute yet can't, but then you yourself don't want to turn into a mini-spammer in the areas where you can post just to get your 'post count' up to the sufficient level. And I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to markosef and say that I think he meant "do what I want" simply in the sense of what he wants to do in this given moment, ie make posts :-)

Trust me, the posts will soon rack up...

I started like a week or so ago and I couldn't stop posting, there is so much worth posting about so you shouldn't really have a problem getting there to be honest.

And if you only joined to post links and send pm's then I don't think this forum is for you.

      Well put!

If someone is here to truly learn they will post intelligent questions and if they are here to truly contribute they will post intelligent answers!

In either (or both) cases your post counts will rise, limits will be lifted, and you will gain reputation in the forum as someone other than a spammer.

What really bugs me is that when someone asks a valid question, every newb and his brother try to jump in with a 4 word reply that is totally irrelevant and only leads to further confusion for the OP.

Finally, if you cannot PM and need to speak with another member in private, just ask them to PM you. You will be able to reply to them and continue the conversation.

As I read your post I pictured this:

Rules are part of life. This forum has rules and they serve a purpose. Being a member here is a privilege, not something to which you are entitled. If you don't like the rules, then find another forum that suits you or start your own. But as others have said, if you're just trying to "pump up your posts" for self-serving purposes, this isn't the place for you.
