Starting an Escort Directory?

INTERNET MARKETING

I've been wanting to start an online escort directory for a while. I don't want to be an escort agency but basically a place where escorts can pay to list themselves on my site. Anybody try anything like this?

Obviously I don't want to do anything illegal and go to jail, so any advice on how I can just distinguish my self as an advertising agency in the same way that there are "entertainers" in the las vegas yellow pages.

I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this

I am not a lawyer, but it sounds like you would still be facilitating the commission of a crime.

What if you wanted to just put up a little ol' directory for hitmen? You wouldn't be the hitman, but you would just give them a nice place to advertise.

Sounds fishy to me.

At the very least you would need some serious lawyering to protect yourself to some degree, but I still don't see how it's a legitimate pursuit.

I've seen these kind of sites before, but regarding the legality of such you need to check with not only your potential web host but also with a lawyer--one that is familiar with the industry.

These are quite usual in Portugal - and I know some of them make SERIOUS money. There was a TV special a while ago about these sites and how the "ladies" paid using a system similar to PPC: who bids more is seen at TOP.

They said these site owners were the new Pimps - that killed it for me

Simply type "escort directory" into google - and you will see plenty! So plenty of people have done it!

However, if you are not already aware of the issues (and you would be asking in a far more appropriate place than here if you were), then I wouldn't recommend it.

The whole area is a complete legal minefield, which has considerable variation depending on your legal jurisdiction. This area already has a number of reputable and well known players - so the barriers to entry are quite high.

I won't say it can't be done - but you will have a lot to learn, and a struggle to get started.
