Fill Me In... What is Google+, and why should I use it?

Having been in the game since 2003 I guess I should know this.
But, being busy running my business, it's difficult to keep up sometimes.

So, what is Google+ and why should I use it?
And, what else have I missed in the last 6 months that I should be up on?

  • It's basically another social network that combines many of the features you're already used to on Facebook and Twitter. It has a relatively geeky audience, so depending on your products, you may be able to some marketing there.

    • Yeah, as mosthost said it's basically Google's version of FaceBook..

      In my opinion, the main reason you should pay attention to Google+ is because the amount of +1's a web page has can actually help it's rankings.
    • New social network that pretty much copies Facebook, I'm not a member so maybe I shouldn't comment, but as of yet I don't see it as a very big competitor of Facebook.

      Demographics has as mosthost has seen so far been mostly younger men, so if you are marketing techno things etc. I think that would be a good market.

      Also, my impression is that marketing on Google+ is somewhat virgin territory, so that might be something to check out.

      But, the +1 which is integrated into Google search engine will be something to look out for!

      Apart from that, so far, I don't see any real competition for Facebook.

    Google Plus is Google's attempt to be like Facebook only it's not. It's Google's social network. The Google Plus button is Google's attempt to have a "like" button like Facebook only few people are really using it.
  • I am not quite sure if Google + can be the next Facebook. But as the name Google is associated with it, you may expect more. So must join for me!
