A site review about generators.

Hi All,

I've been in business for 15 years. I install Automatic Standby Generators for a living. I've built my business the old fashion way by advertising in the Yellow Pages, in Newspapers, through Home Shows, and through word-of-mouth.

I want to take it to the next step: Internet Marketing.

I have a website that I have built myself using Wordpress and A Theme that I have purchased.

I was wondering if I can get some constructive critisism and some suggestions from all of you. I just joined 2 days ago and am enjoying reading all the material so far.

Thank you in advance for looking at my site.

Really nice, clean-looking site with clear navigation.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) needs some work. What words and phrases do your customers search for? You need to take the most popular of those and include them in your page titles (especially the home page), text, URLs etc. If you do that, when people search for them in Google, your page will come up in the results.

Similarly, since your business is local, you want to include locality names that your customers are likely to use, prominently on your site. Make sure your claim your local business listing on Google too.

One easy thing to change right away is the permalink structure in your Wordpress setup. Go to Settings/Permalinks and in the Custom Structure field put this:
    /%category%/%postname%/
That gives you URLs which include the title of your post - in your case, often the name of the generator you're talking about on that page - and is much better for helping people find you that "p=21" or suchlike, which is the Wordpress default.

Edited to add: you've got a mailing list signup box, which is great, but why should anyone sign up for it? Give them a good reason - a free report, really useful newsletter, etc.

Best of luck with your site

    Kevin

Hi I do have one suggestion: since it doesn't look like you're selling online, at least have a link on each product that says "where to buy" or "how to buy" or even a tab along the top that says the same.
Since I assume the point of this page is to convince people to buy the product, you need to tell them how, and make it as easy as possible for them.

Site looks solid. Here's the link for you: BHC Power

I personally use the following Permalink structure:
    /%category%/%postname%.php

It makes the pages look more permanent.

Nice clean design, I like it. I would definitely follow Kevin's advice, it can only help. Also promote your list to existing and future customers. It's probably the most important thing you could ever do for your business.

    All the best

Don't get so wrapped up in making money that you forget the important things in life.

Thanks for the info so far. I have changed my permalinks settings to /%category%/%postname%/

I will start working on a reason for people to opt in... Maybe I can give a free report on powergeneration....
