How To Make An E-Book?

Hey guys (and girls) ..

I have a couple e-books written that I'll be giving away for free as a way to get people to opt into my list ..

Problem is, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN E-BOOK ..

I'm going to outsource the cover art etc. but in terms of the book content itself, where do I start??

    I can tell you that there is no right or wrong way to write an eBook. Some people take tons of notes and others just start writing. So use an outline, others don't.

    You have to find what works for you.

    But the #1 thing you HAVE to do is: Start writing. Just begin. And then worry about making it good later.

    Start by writing down what you want to write. Just let it flow and don't worry about anything but the information. Start general and then get specific. Then start organizing the information.

    But this is just one way to do it. You might decide to do something totally different.

    Again, you can go back later and make changes. In fact, you'll have to one way or the other.

    So, to borrow an old worn out slogan....Just do it!

  • I agree with Chaiwriter and it's how I wrote my ebook - just do it. Just sit down and start writing. Write as much as you can for as long as you can even if it's junk. Edit it later, not while you're writing.
    If you find it hard to stay focused, write a table of contents first, then use that as your writing guide.

    I have no affiliation to this, but I bought the ebook at 7dayebook.com and it was great, they suggest several different ways to write an ebook. One good suggestion is to have others write it for you... ask a bunch of experts to share their stories, then put them together into a book.

    Good luck, and enjoy it. Nothing beats the feeling of people actually paying for something that you wrote from scratch!
  • Yeah I also think that is great advice,. However, when you want to write quickly, I advise that you brainstorm.
  • Unless I'm reading more into those words I've made bold, Bill has already written his book - he's just not sure how to convert it into an ebook.

    Bill, what program did you use to write the book?

    If you have a text file of the book, you can import it into OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite (a free and very good program) and convert it into a PDF file.

    The majority of ebooks are in PDF format because they can then be opened and read on both Windows and Mac (and Linux) machines.

    • Mike is right - don't make this more complicated than it has to be...if you have written your ebooks already, then do a quick review to make sure:

      1. Your title is as compelling as it can be - incorporate action words such as (Discover, Uncovered, Finally, New, Unleashed...etc), include the MAIN benefit your prospect will get if they were to use your information in the optimal way.

      2. Professional looking title page and layout - you don't need to go crazy here, but using a professional looking template can serve you well when customers consider taking further action based on their impression of your free product

      3. As Mike suggests - use OpenOffice to convert your written ebook into a PDF which you can allow people to download.
