I have learnt some lessons today

Hi All

I'd love to tell you everything went great today but that is not the case.

My tasks for today was to get my first blog up and running. I had registered my domain and sorted hosting yesterday.(Got a great deal on this through the WF)

Ok I had watched some videos on installing the blog and set one up easy enough. I did some searching and found what I thought was a great theme and everything went OK with the install.

I set out my categories and then spent about 3 hours making some posts. I had been reading about plugins so decided to install some on my blog. I installed All In One SEO and spent a good half hour learning that, plus I also decided to install one or two others.

It was not my intention to monetise the blog just yet but I remember you all saying don't miss an opportunity to build a list so I looked for an email plugin.

I found one that looked OK installed and activated it, changed some settings and bang - everything went wrong!

My site kept coming up with an database error message and I didn't know what to do:confused:

I couldn't get into it to deactivate the plugin so I have had to delete wordpress and start again

So what have I learnt today?
  1. This isn't going to be as easy as I thought it would be.
  2. Must read the instructions for the plugin before I mess with the settings
  3. Must learn to back up wordpress.
I have learned these lessons and have only spent about 5 hours, it could have been a lot worse!

Always look on the bright side of life

Jay

Once you get the hang of WordPress you are going to love it. I have installed so many plugins that I wish I would have read the instruction for it isn't even funny. Good luck! Rockwell

I've been using Wordpress for a few months now and the more I get to know about it, the more I like it.

There is a temptation to use as many plugins as you can find, but sometimes that can be overkill! I try to limit myself to 5/6 popular ones now, but of course if anyone knows of any really REALLY useful ones........

Anyone who tells you they have never made a mistake is either lying or has never actually achieved anything in there life.

When something goes 'wrong' you have not failed...you have successfully eliminated an option that doesn't move you towards your goal.

        Good luck with your quest

You could have just gone into your cpanel hosting and with File Manager or through an ftp program like Filezilla, just deleted the plugin ...

Then you would have been able to get into your Wordpress back end.

Just delete any pluging installed. And thankyou for your share, everybody make mistakes, and that is the way we learn.
