Testing viability of clickbank products on the cheap?

While searching for tips/methods to promote my existing business I stumbled across a complimentary click bank product that I'd like to promote as an aside. But not on my current site.

I'd like to "cheaply and easily" test market the product without spending time on building review sites, article marketing etc. However if it pans out I will take it to that level.

I've got the product and the keywords researched. Since google won't let me link directly to the offer I need some help.

Anyone have a methods for quick testing the viablity of a clickbank product?

Thanks

if by 'viablity' you mean sellability then it's cbengine.com - enter product name, choose 'graph' and see the gravity trend since it was laucnhed. If it's stable or increasing for at least 9 months - it's a good sign. I would also check sites with the product reviews and see who well they rank and what traffic they get. If the product is promoted by authority sites that it's another indicator of its potential sellability.

I honestely think the best way to know if it will convert is review by yourself the sell process and the product.

Testing is a big part of IM and if you're going to promote a product, you need to know if it converts great. However, first step is to buy it, review the sell process and have an honest look at the product.

It is easy to see when people are reffering products they never bought. If you think the product is good, you'll make a good and unique review and just with your pre-selling, people will click on your link and buy it without even reading the sale letter.

Start small first and expand of course

Thanks for the input so far. What I'm looking for is a quick/cheap way of just testing the market and product without spending time/money doing reviews etc.

In my dream world I'd be able to quickly work-up an adwords campaign, point it to the clickbank sales page of the product and let it run for 100 clicks to see how it goes. But the reality is that google won't let me do that.

So what is the shortest route from the google campaign to the clickbank sales page? If I see there are people clicking and some purchasing then I will build it out with review pages etc to maximize conversions.

What is your idea of cheap?

I dont know of a way to accurately test any product or idea for less than $100. But to me, $100 in testing is way better than a full blown setup costing a few hundred only to find out its not worth my time.

I should note, I dont bother with even spending $100 testing until I'm sure there is a good chance of success. I confirm this by check out the competition, and doing lots of reading about what people are saying about the product or service. Then, if I feel its something I can successfully compete at and fill a niche, I go for the testing.

It's not easy to do this.

Unfortunately "direct linking" to the product's sales page doesn't tell you what you need to know. It can even sometimes tell you the opposite.

Products which don't make a sale at all with direct linking can convert like gangbusters if you have a review site and do article marketing. But some products that do make the occasional sale by direct linking don't necessarily convert any better after you have a review page and do some article marketing.

That's because you're really testing different traffic.

To learn whether a product's sales page converts your review site and article marketing traffic, you have to put up a review site and do some article marketing.

What you need to test isn't "the viability of the product". It's "the viability of the product's sales page with your traffic". And that necessarily involves "your traffic", which limits how "quick"/"easy" your testing can be. It's really easy to test quickly and imagine you learned something helpful when you didn't, really.

Alexa - Thanks for jumping in on this as I know you have experience in this area.

How would one go about doing a reasonable marketing test when I don't have alot of time to invest in making new sites, writing articles, doing reviews etc.

But it really isn't the time to do those things, its the time required to learn those skills in order to do those things at a reasonable level.

Is there a decent WSO or tutorial on putting together a basic skeletal system for this?

btw - burtonrdr2 - I think $100 or less is a reasonable amount to try something out.

I completely understand. It's just a difficult question without an easy answer, isn't it?

I can only offer two observations here, really, and even with both of them added together, I can't pretend that it's a "complete answer" ...

        (i) The more judgement and criteria you can apply to the sales page before testing, the better, because you can get the odds significantly in your favor, this way. My own list of 10 criteria are here, if they help.

(ii) You need, in testing, to try to test "the same traffic" as the traffic to which you'll scale up if it looks any good. So you can start with a one-page blog/site with an opt-in, product review and two articles (that's about my minimum, anyway!). I haven't found a way of testing meangingfully without having a "free report" to give away for the opt-in, though. The thing is, nobody's going to sell many ClickBank products without building a list, so you can't really test it meaningfully without a list. So you have to have something to give away for the opt-in, otherwise you're not comparing like with like and not really learning what you need to know. But (for what it's worth) the freebie that you give away for the opt-in doesn't necessarily have to be of the same quality/design/etc as the one you'll use if you decide to run with it?

I'm sorry to say I've only seen really bad ones, full of horrendous misinformation, myself.

Typically, they tell you to start by choosing "a high-gravity product in a popular niche" and once you read that, you can pretty confidently ignore the rest, because it's already clear they don't know the basics of what they're talking about.

For me, the "testing" process is about the time and effort, not the money. I know they do equate in a sense, but I don't really spend money on testing stuff like this anyway (I have my hosting already, after all, and a domain-name doesn't cost anything) - the time's a more valuable commodity to me, in a way.

So it sounds like at a minimum I need to get a domain name, a word press site, write some heart felt review and link to the product page.
Granted this isn't optimized streamlined or list building friendly but its a start.

Any one know of a decent wordpress theme for a sales landing page?

Please excuse my asking, but why would you need a "sales landing page"? I thought there was a specific ClickBank product you wanted to promote as an affiliate?

I ask because the single commonest mistake I see ClickBank affiliates making is having their own site look something like a sales page. As a ClickBank affiliate, you should let the sales page do the selling, when your traffic gets there, but use your own landing page to build a list (and maybe have a product review, other information about the niche, an article or two, and/or whatever else you want).

            Or did I misunderstand you?

I think we are on the same wavelength but just not clicking

The google adwords tool tells me there are approx. 300,000 searches for this keyword per month. Many of the permutations are available for less than .20 a click and have low competition. I want to buy those clicks and drive them straight to the clickbank page but google won't let me do that.
Perhaps I mis-used the term sales page. I dunno, I just want to get the traffic from point A to point B without building a mandatory roadside rest that google wants me to have.

Is there a way to send traffic from adwords straight to the affiliate salles page? If not whats the most minimal thing I can do so as not to cause a barrier between the customer and the product?

I do appreciate you sticking with me on this one.
