So a close friend of mine is really into modeling. She wanted me to create a website for her where she can post frequently asked questions about becoming a model. After doing some analysis I realized that the terms she is targeting are extremely competitive. There are over 100 million searches for the term "How to be a model"

I told her it would be nearly impossible to get a good ranking for that term but she insisted that she has original content and she knows what aspiring models want. So I went ahead and created this site for her:

How to be a model | Be a model - Model For Ads

I gave her some pointers on getting back links based on what I've learned from the good people of this forum. 3 months later, she gets about 20 visitors per day, mostly via referrals but nothing from the search engines.

Question is, will this site ever see the light of day in terms of ranking on Google, Yahoo, etc?

Surely she can get a better RANK if she work HARD , i mean she was looking to rank for these keyword modeling agencies,to be a model, modeling etc. but she didn't created the site with GOOD SEO i mean she did a worst On-Page and off-page SEO and she must be look her on-page SEO first then try to build some authority backlinks for her Blog.

She could do a facebook page and other social bookmarking to get traffic. Doubt that she will be ranking high in Google for such a competitive term any time soon.

She could also put a lot of sexy photos in of herself and get more traffic from Google images.

That's a tough niche, but if you're persistent you could improve the site's ranking. You could start with some less competitive keywords. You could focus on building a list. If the person wants to become an authority in this niche, she might want to write articles or make videos. I can see video being especially relevant for modeling -maybe interviews with models or fashion designers.

Personally I think getting the top spots of Google for the competitive keywords is difficult but not impossible.Posting fresh contents on a regular basis and building quality backlinks can easily help you to get a good rank in search engines although it may take several months.

That would depend on how competitive the terms she targets are.

Just because a term or KW has a lot of competing pages doesnt really mean a site cant rank well for that KW. The more important factor is how strong the sites are in Google for those terms or KWs.

A good way to check that would be to go to Yahoos site explorer and check thier BLs.

    According to Googles KW Tool:

"model for ads" only gets 12 searches per month (exact local searches)
"How to be a model" gets 2900 per month and "be a model" get 260 searches per month.

Of those 3 the one that will probably have the most competition will be "how to be a model"

The top 3 sites in Google for that KW are:

    1 - www.howtobeamodel.org
    2 - How to Become a Model - wikiHow
    3 - HOW TO BECOME A MODEL

According to Yahoo site explorer those 3 sites have the following number of BLs for that KW:

#1 - 46 inbound links to that URL from other sites (not internal links)
#2 - 212 inbound links from other sites
#3 - 32 inbound links from other sites

There are obviously other factors to be considered but when looking at this basic info it really shouldnt be that tough to outrank those sites.

Point here is...dont assume that just because there are a lot of competing pages that a KW would be hard to rank for because thats not always the case, the strenght of those sites for that KW is more important.

Hope that helps some, good luck!

I would use video marketing for this one. There are lots of videos on YouTube about modeling and the views are off the scale.

You need a modeling tips channel on YouTube - make up, hair, skincare, how to pose, how to walk, how to get into modeling, who to trust etc. You then need to direct them back to your site and your offers. Things like this work really well with video modeling.

Hi Robert, when I run a search in Google KW tool for those terms, I get much higher numbers. Here's a screenshot:

Those numbers are for "Broad Match"...not exact.

Those numbers are always considerably higher and aren't typically considered as reliable as using exact match.
