How I have made over 75k online (The two most important factors)

Note: I'm not trying to pre-sell you on an ebook or membership site, I don't have one.

My personal philosophy has always been governed by somewhat of a "go big or go home" attitude. When I started researching methods on ways to make money online I immediately chose vendor over affiliate. It just made a lot more sense to me to build a product of high value and get other people to promote it for me rather than vice verse. Obviously there are tons of successful affiliates crushing it, but I feel like if they invested the same effort in product creation they could make a lot more money.

There is a ton of information on SEO, product creation and all the other jazz involved so I want to focus on the hardest step (and in my opinion the most important) for most people trying to break into being a vendor. PICKING A MARKET.

If you pick a winner and do everything else correctly you will make money

If you pick a loser and do everything else correctly you will lose money

Therefore, I think market selection and becoming a vendor were the two vital decisions I have made in my IM career.

Step 1: Find a market

Here were and still are my qualifications

1) Evergreen Market. I don't want to put hundreds of man hours, hundreds of dollars and my sweat equity into a product that will not be marketable after launch, or a couple months/years down the road.

Sure there are vendors who crush it with launches and products that will have a temporary need, but guess what? My products will sell forever. I have one clickbank product that does over 20k a year in a VERY evergreen niche that there will always be a demand for (in the foreseeable future.) This product will make me around 20k a year for life as long as I keep the marketing efforts up.

And by evergreen let me clarify...

There will always be a need in niches such as dog training, design plans, pet care etc. These products can sell for life!

There will NOT always be a need for the latest SEO technique, the latest MLM or membership site, the latest diet fad etc.

2) Desperate Buyers Market

By definition, this a market where consumers are DESPERATE to alleviate there problem or concern.

For example this would include, get an ex back, cancer remedies etc

People who would not bat an eyelash at spending 50 bucks to help their problem immediately!

So when I was deciding on a market I chose this one over say "resume cover letter builder." Sure they sell, but I guarantee yours and your affiliates conversions will be WAY higher in a desperate buyers market. You are essentially guaranteed to make sales and convert at a respectable level as long as your product and sales pitch is semi solid.

3) Market Need/ Search Traffic

When I look at new clickbank products to create ( I am the owner of 4 that currently generate revenue on a consistent basis with more in development) I obviously look at search traffic.

There are definitely micro niche product opportunities available, but those arent going to get you 5-6 figure checks.

If I am trying to dominate a market, I will use the previous two qualifications and then see if the search traffic is AT LEAST 30-40k a month for the main keyword and if I can rank in the top 3. If not, I skip it.

If I am trying to break into a giant market with millions of searches like in say "Bed Bugs" I ignore all competitive factors and just do. In the markets with astronomical traffic, it is almost impossible not get visitors if you optimize correctly. If you build it, they will come.

------------------------------

The hardest part is finding a market. I already have a team of outsourcers that handle everything from product creation, articles to different SEO tasks. (Although I did everything myself for my first product.)

Now that we have picked a market where know we will have a converting winner that will last forever and has demand its time to make the product.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or post here... I love helping who are new to the industry and stumped on how to get started.

      Nice post.

I especially like number 1. When I first started I always seemed to be working in projects that had a short lifespan and where there would be less and less of a market over the next few years. I try to stick to mainly evergreen niches now.

      Thanks

This kind of looks like a pre-sell for your link building service. Don't get me wrong, your post's got value, but your signature link put me off.

Nevertheless, thanks for sharing your experience with us

      IM'ers are always cynics

Because SEO has nothing to do with anything I was talking about in my post, I didn't think it was a big deal.

I think making a topic about 10 steps to creating an ebook and then selling a course on how to make an ebook in your sig is disingenuous, but I didnt consider what I did to be. In either case, each his own.

I think your idea of evergreen is a little confused. Dieting and SEO are two things people are always going to be looking for. The techniques might change but if you develop your sites correctly then you can swap out products as and when you need to. Dieting and health is one of the BIGGEST evergreen markets around.

I would say it is a terrible niche if you need to keyword stuff it into your signature on a forum like this.

      Will,

That was the whole point of the thread... so you dont have to swap anything out. Swapping a product out means you have chosen a microniche that is not evergreen.

        Great points brought up there.

I made the mistake of targetting several markets that weren't evergreen and spent a large chunk of my time learning in hindsight that, that was the biggest mistake I've ever made in IM.

        We live and learn!

So your saying the lose weight/dieting market is not evergreen?

People are ALWAYS going to want to lose weight. People are ALWAYS going to want to look younger. They are evergreen niches. The methods people use to lose weight or look younger will continually change as new discoveries and new solutions are made but the main desire remains the same. This does not mean they are not evergreen niches.

Will, I think he's saying the latest dieting fad is not evergreen, but that the lose weight niche/market is evergreen.

At least that's what i picked up from his response.

I'm still a bit confused, myself.

Yeah I am sure that's what he means although I was confused by his comments:

There will NOT always be a need for the latest SEO technique, the latest MLM or membership site, the latest diet fad etc.
Ah yes, there will ALWAYS be a need for the latest diet fad because it IS an evergreen market (I wouldn't call weight loss a niche). The latest fad will always be changing but people will always be looking for the latest way to lose weight. Thus it is evergreen. Building your sites and business based on specific products is not the smartest way to do things. You should concentrate on the market not a specific product. That way as things change you can adapt and you won't be left with a worthless asset.

Will, you are certainly correct. But I think you are misunderstanding my point.

I am looking at this from the standpoint of a clickbank vendor trying to create a product that has a long shelf life.

Of course there is a ton of money to be made in the latest SEO technique or diet fad.

However, my focus is centered around building products that I will never have to swap out, because they are in solid evergreen niches.

I don't know why people are telling that its a sales pitch ,every time when someone post a success story...

Within an evergreen niche you are going to have the latest way of doing things i.e. the latest diet, amazing new acne cream, etc.

Maybe dog training stays the same from year to year? - but most niches do not remain stagnant in there products and/or techniques.

Just like their will be the latest and greatest new cell phone or TV, the weight loss market is the same.

Rolling with the new products and putting a spin on the old is part of the niche.

Now if you laser focused your niche on just one fad diet, you will likely run into issues down the road, but if it is incorporated in a larger scope in an authority site that flows in an out, you can do very well with it and evolve as new things come and go.

  • The desperate buyers market is way over sold.

All you have to do if find markets that serve peoples WANTS. They do not have to be desperate.

You can also make a lot of money focusing on NEEDS.

For example while saturated I still make money selling printer ink. High margin, and people "Need" to purchase it over and over and over. This is of course evergreen but not exactly a desperate market. FYI: For those thinking about getting into this particular niche now... good luck with that. The competition is BRUTAL.

And 75K is pretty decent as long at it's yearly.

Find 5 good niches. Focus on ONLY those 5 niches for 5 months and by that time they should all be making money and in autopilot. Then focus on another 5. Rinse, repeat.

    Hey Ben

I've been impressed with you since last year when you posted about your $1,000 day and you talked about your paypal account being frozen because you made $30k in Sept 10.

So if you don't mind me asking (and I'm not trying to be smart, just curious), what happened that you made $30k 13 months ago but your total online is only $75k?

    Thanks
