How Do You Stand Out In The Crowd?

Over the years I have promoted and advertised various opportunities (Affiliate programs, MLM, Clickbank products etc) through various avenues (Social Media, Traffic Exchange, Safe List, Online Classifieds) it seems these days its getting harder to stand out from the crowd! There seem to be SO many opportunities out there that it's difficult to be heard in such a noisy market.

Recently I started promoting/advertising a new opportunity in the same way I had attacked past campaigns... it dawned on me that surely there was a way to stand out from the crowd, there must be a better way to do this and not just blur myself into the constant jibber jabber of 7 million other advertisers just like me trying to make a buck or two. The same ol same ol is getting boring!!!

What do you do to stand out?

I stand out by providing people free value. Value that pulls them to like me and what I do and I use the concept of Attraction Marketing where people come to you instead of you come to them. It would be great to give value 1st always 1st. Selling will come but value is always first. Once you become a problem solver, people will come to you to look for a solution to their problems. My advice is to get really good at one thing till a point where people see you as a leader and an expert.

From a Social Media standpoint. Be yourself. The company I work for posts numerous funny links along with sales pitches. Just don't do 100% sales pitches.

Rather than advertising and promoting just as everyone else does, consider marketing yourselves and positioning to be perceived as an expert in all of those niches. Writing articles in authoritative publications as well as press releases is the fastest route to marketing in the most hotly competitive arenas.

            In my opinion...

If you provide VALUE and are seen as an AUTHORITY in your niche you will stand out...

yes, I use to be one of the ones racing round like a headless chook.

But the best way to get more traffic and more sales is to work smarter not harder. I think that is the best way to stand out too. Plus leverage off the hard work of others.

Always give value my friend. Think of places like Craigslist and Angie's List. Tons of value and they aren't trying to sell you anything even though they are making millions. The money will come. Content first, money later.

No, you don't. You blend in by doing that.

So many people are providing "value" in there emails with this free PLR or that. The only way to stand out is by finding a new source of wants and fulfilling them. Offering the same ol' "value" for the same ol' problems is not standing out.

That sort of value is not very valuable...

If you are offering a niche something that is of REAL value that they can't get from anywhere else, at least not of the SAME quality, then you stand out...

It depends on what you're doing, if you're marketing on forums then you'd be amazed how much you can gain just by building up a solid reputation of helping others.

Its a 2-way street.. You can't just 'take take take' and not contribute anything to the community, then expect people to trust you enough to buy your products or services.

I'm not saying that you ARE doing this, I'm just using this as an example. Just to be clear. lol

For craigslist ads, you should always include a photo when possible. I know when I search for a product, I check the "has image" option. So I don't even see the listings that don't have one.. lol also, don't be afraid to let the viewers know what they CAN NOT expect from you or your product.

In my opinion, this stands out because you are being honest before they even try to contact you. Unlike most buyers who just list all of the good things about the product, but none of the bad.. Obviously there is going to be a few bugs with pretty much everything, so you might as well disclose the information up front.

Just trying to kind of give you some ideas that might spark some ideas of your own, lol

Honesty, no empty promises, and top notch content. This is how I stand out. I don't play the "I am going to promise you the world and deliver you peanuts" game like many sites out there do. This has gotten out of hand and there are many victims to the overnight success, cure all formulas, and other garbage that has been regurgitated a thousand times.

If you remain honest, over deliver on what you promise, and you only publish the best content you can on your site it will help you build a relationship and keep the customer for a longer amount of time.

Agree that it is so tempting to promise the world and deliver cr*p.

Transparency along with "under-promise and over-deliver" (which is HP's motto) still works. Unfortunately, even HP faded away from this powerful motto.

(which is what my customers have stated) - being the reason i stand out from some survey questions i asked.

Other things my customers have said is I provide humour in my emails, blog posts, witty comments. The ability to think outside the box and also that i provide some of my best tips and strategies to them.

Yes, the 101 is awesome. There are so many alternatives as well.

I am launching a series of business books which will be along the same lines.

Familiarity = trust and safety, hence why news readers aren't changed too often.

People feel safe in familiar surroundings, and I honestly believe that you can create this with your approach. Good work!

I had a series of short real estate ebooks which were going well until the GFC hit.

They were my "60 Minute Guide To..." Took them 1 hour to read.

In short, make your products a trusted resource for value.

What do you do to stand out?
You have to be a better marketer.

    - You have to be better at researching your markets
    - You have to be better at creating persuasive content
    - You have to be smarter at getting traffic
    - You have to be better at split testing

Go and buy the top books on marketing and focus on
mastering that skill. It will then become easier as you
will know how to position yourself against the competition.

A good start would be "Positioning". Great book on how to
stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Weather permitting, I find my fluro orange man-kini usually does the trick... especially at wedding receptions.

    On a serious note...

Personality - inject personality. Sometime it's better to just be yourself.

I honestly believe that you have create some sort of brand and back it up.

In all my time, the Rich Jerk and Bum Marketing are 2 that stand out.

Another great example is Seth Goden and what he delivers. You gotta build your reputation, and this involves being constant and consistent in what you do.

Too may start this, but very few have the patience to follow through with it.

If you're selling into MMO or IM then go against the sheep for a start. For real markets, follow what advertisers are doing... especially infomercials.

Providing valuable and well-researched information to our prospects is essential for making a decent income online. Along with that a consistent promotion is required, because there is fierce competition in the market.

Movie-makers spend a lot of money on promotion and publicity, then they expect profit. Internet marketing is no different.

I guess it depends on my niche. For my most profitable niche I stood out by providing my list with a no-bull**** way to getting discounts on the things they like. I used forum marketing to build the list and nearly two years later on several forums many "veteran posters" will point new members to my list to get "the best discounts."

They essentially do the marketing for me now and I don't even pop in to make posts anymore, simply pay for cheap advertising and let the older members direct the new members to the list sign-up form.

I stood out to them because I was honest and provided value. I didn't spam the forum, I simply participated in discussion. I gave them exactly what they wanted. That's how I stood out.

In terms of the Warrior Forum? I probably don't stand out, unless your reading a smart ass response to a silly question I'm answering lol.

Ina world of article spinning, backlinks and other quick fixes, I honestly feel that not enough people actually put the time and effort to write real good articles etc instead of the churn.

I'd hazard a guess that one really good article for $30 will make you stand out more than 6 average ones at $5 each.

Depends on your niche. I would also hazard a guess that many mesothelioma lawyers are paying top dollar for their content, some of which is quite good--yet the niche is so saturated it takes more than that to stand out.
