Lets talk about SEX.

Who here is in the "SEX" niche? When i say sex niche im not referring only to porn. Im actually interested to see who here has had any experiences with other sex related sites such as; sex toys, how to guides, sex positions, adult dating, STD cures, etc?

I was thinking of doing some sort of how to guide thats all.

This will probably come as a surprise, not associated with any more, but I used to own a 50% share in a very popular adult toy store and niche dating network LOL (here in the UK anyway)

But yeah, good money and a decent niche. I say try it! you haven't got anything to lose.

    Good luck dude

I'm getting ready to travel down this road to fulfillment! Sex sells. Period. I found out after putting up my profile on a social site and just making a few innocent flirty remarks there was a LOT of traffic. What if I had made a few not so innocent comments? I'm thinking, here's a bunch of traffic I was not expecting or even trying to get.

Hey, it's traffic! What more could I ask for! So, I'm thinking, I'm going to find something, anything to sell to that traffic. That's when I found the YouTube Sex Report, $130.oo payouts in the WSO.

I'm just getting started. So, I don't have any stats to report just yet. But I have no doubt this will be easy money! And I'm going for it!

In the meantime...Good Luck to you! I hope you find what you're looking for.

Can we use Google adsense on sites with sex toys on them? I don't plan on having graphic pictures or any kind of nudity on the site. If you type in sex toys into Google, there are all kinds of ads on the right side so is it okay to use Adsense on blogs/niche sites?

      Yes it is!

The adult industry is so advanced that they are doing right ow what we'll start "SEEING" two years from now.

Very difficult... Unless you got some real hardworking ability and some strongh balls, I'd recommend it lightly.

I am wondering why did you make this assumption? Did you venture into this niche before?

I know there's a warrior blogger who made nice commission in this niche(male enhancement). Of course, I won't reveal who he/she is.

This is not an assumption - just a basic fact in this industry. Amazon, Microsoft, Google do not provide the innovation in our industry - its the adult industry. Think IM gurus came up with taking credit card orders? Membership sites, affiliate sales before anyone else - nope, it was the adult industry. Video? PPC - you name it, odds are very good porn sites did it first.

I know this not because I participate but because I've ran several data centers over the years, and some of our biggest customers were adult related. Many folks have used the profits from this industry to go on to create more main stream projects as well.

On a side note - two of the largest ecommerce sites in my area are in a very small town called Hillsboro. They are not related or even owned by the same folks - just located in the same area (in fact less than 5 miles from each other). One is the largest soccer site on the planet - the other is PHE enterprises AKA Adam and Eve. In 1997 their web site was doing 3 million a year - and represented less than 3 % of their revenue.... That's the power the Adult industry.

On a further side note, the owner of PHE first proposed in college at UNC a business plan to use an adult mail order store (this was long before the web) to fund projects in the 3rd world to help control population growth and feed/cloth/provide health care for the population. His professors tore his ideas apart and told him it would never work. Just goes to show if you really beleive in your ideas - don't let the people who "Know" stop you. Just like with Fed Ex!

PHE spends a good portion of their profits each year helping folks in Africa - and in NC.

Just thought you should know a little bit of our industry's history :-)

And three guesses how the owner of htmlscript/miva got his start....

          best,

If you are talking about online porn, then I agree.

Maybe I have to be more clear..

In original post, a member mentioned following niche:

"Sex toys, how to guides, sex positions, adult dating, STD cures.."

He asked: "One newbie question: Is it hard to get sales from this niche?"

            And someone answer "Yes."

I know people make nice commission with simple NMOC (theme based mini site) sites with just few links to it. Now, how difficult can it be to build up a NMOC site?

Anyway, thank you for your insights!

Actually, it's the adult and internet gambling industries that push forward the innovations - everything from security/anti-fraud to payment processing, and of course, all of the basics of ecommerce. I attend several conferences in both industries every year, and have been in the payment processing side of adult since 1982 and igaming since 1996 (and yup - I AM someone's grandma!)

I started one of the first home based party plans for 'adult toys' in 1982, and sold in 1986 - tired of dealing with the day to day grind of 150 sales reps!

Yes, it's a competitive niche but it's still one of the fastest growing niches and as an industry - the total sales eclipse virtually everything else sold online COMBINED!

There is room for more. Don't be afraid to try it - it's extremely lucrative and you don't need to get into areas that are age restricted to make money, either.

Sign up for the newsletters at xbiz.com - it's a great place to find affiliate programs. CozyFrog is an excellent directory of forums - the main adult webmaster forum I recommend is YNot.com - I think it's the oldest of the adult webmaster forums - and people are pretty helpful.

Believe it or not - there are a lot of women in the industry that are NOT in front of the cameras ;-)

I thought about selling "Penis Enlargement Pills". I'm not sure they work, but I hear there is a big demand. The thought was to get an herbal company to make a blend, or private label an existing blend.

I was going to call my product "Mister Big Stuff!" (I know, you're thinking, "who do you think you are?")

The runner-up product name was "Meaty Bone", but I digress...

Anyway, I shelved the idea. I decided that I didn't want to be associated with the whole sexual enhancement niche. Where would it have taken me? (Breast Enlargement Cream...you don't want to hear the name I came up for that one!) I don't think these products really work, anyway. I'd just be prostituting myself out for money.

So, I kept my reputation intact (until just now, talking about it)

I don't think it was the website admins who did this. Most of the time, it's just a teenager wanna-be-hacker who finds leaked CC numbers on the net and wants to try his luck.

This problem is not limited to the adult industry. Just a few weeks ago I got an email from the real CC owner (hopefully...) telling me there was a CC charge from my website but he didn't even see my web before. I issued the refund and it was all OK then.

Since I launched my website in September last year, there have been at least 3 clearly fraudulent orders already.

So adult business or not, this is simply the reality of the nowadays Internet...

A month or two ago, I purchased a domain name for a VERY specific niche of the adult industry, with the intention of putting up a blog, a forum, and some affiliate links to related products (there are a few affiliate programs devoted to this particular sex niche). It's a niche that isn't too saturated yet, because it's pretty specialized, and I've been following the niche for long enough to see an opening for more sites relating to it, so I think the money potential is there. I haven't started the site yet, because it's literally in a queue with several other domains I have that I'm systematically developing. Once I start it, though, I'll post somewhere on the forum about how it's doing.

I don't have any other sex-related sites yet, and this is my only adult-themed domain. We'll see how it goes.

That's what I thought! The user name is already graphic and he wants to take the topic further? (Pardon the pun.)

Personally, I would never sell sex-related items or want to be associated with them in any way simply because of the stigma of being assoicated with it and all of the pitfalls of that industry.

I know sex sells, but it's simply not worth it.

Didn't Vince James make his millions with enhancement pills? And didn't he get into legal trouble over it at one time? I know he was the "Mr. X" (or whatever his mystery name was) that Russell Brunson promoted a while back, right? I was never on that call nor did I buy the "Make Millions" book on eBay or anywhere else.

Sex sells like nothing else and though a lot can be learned from their business models, I don't think it's fair to teach money-making methods mainly based on the model of an adult products business to others NOT in that industry . We all know sex sells and by it's very nature, it will be a better seller than 99% of other products and services out there. You could go out promoting something else based on that model with great expectations and get poor results that paled in comparison to the results gotten by the adult-products business using those very same methods.

As others have pointed out here, the adult/porn industry is usually on the cutting ede of technology so there's definitely a lot to learn from them. But I wouldn't use them as my primary example/business model, no matter how good it is.

What I really want to know is how to stop the daily deluge of porn-related spam in my inbox. It comes in every day, ALL day! Grrrr! It's annoying, but what annoys me more is that I'm a woman and I'm not made that way, so they're barking up the wrong tree.

Their subject lines are sometimes creative though! But mostly, they're just raunchy and perverted. But if I ever wondered what a man REALLY thinks about and wants, I'd learn real quick just by reading those subject lines....

My user name is in reference to going into "DEEPER" states of concsiousness through meditation. Perhaps you should pardon your own pun.

Secondly you are associating yourself with adult related products simply by adding to this thread and the links to adult sites, thanks for that by he way.

Third if your getting sex/adult related email its most likely because you or someone using your email has been visiting sex/adult related sites me personally i have never ever signed up to any adult or sex related site because i know they blast the crap out of your email. So basically all you simply have to do is use their unsub button but then again lots of spam emails these days dont use unsub. so... use the next link for some advice.

I know that some of you guys who are real experienced with Internet Marketing know a few ways around not having a website and use existing sites such as YouTube and an affiliate link to your advantage.

      hah, this made me Rofl.

I've been doing some adult on and off. Never were a champ on it but I started in 2001 with first site. Didn't see any sales after 5,000 views so I went out.

That was just stupid. The industry now is hard to get in to, you have to give away the store with adult videos.

Then sell them adult toys and adult dating instead. Or just webcam shows.

It's still lots of money to be made, if you have the right content and ideas.

I have always thought that the adult industry was the way to go. The adult industry is an $100 Billion a year industry! That's a remarkable number for any kind of consumer product, and that's not even counting the undeclared cash at the strip clubs and from the pimps. I have a simple video site on herpes and it gets a steady flow of traffic everyday. A Sex related niche can be very profitable when promoted properly. The problem is some people don't feel comfortable promoting sex.

I think more online marketers would actually make a profit if they chose to promote sex in some shape or form. Hotels makes billions off of in room movies, do you think they would turn that money down? I don't think so. How about Direct TV, who is owned by News Corporation which owns Fox, has a whole line up of adult stations.

I have recently started promoting AllX club, which is the first adult content site to use network marketing, the conversion rate is higher than any program that I have ever promoted. The anonymity of the internet lends itself perfectly to online porn, male enhancement, or even STD information. They say 1 in 7 clicks on the internet is to an "Adult" related site.

    LOL, Mark....let's hope not.

Although the adult industry is very lucrative, it has some drawbacks, too. I recently had a PM here about my backlinks, asking if they'd be able to be used for adult sites. Unfortunately, many websites frown on "adult links" being left on them and would probably remove such links quickly and maybe ban the users. So "free advertising" for the adult niche has got to be nearly impossible. That would make it much more difficult, IMO.

My very first venture into affiliate marketing several years back was in the adult/sex industry. I had an adult shop on a hard rock message board that I ran and it was very profitable. The shop is still there, but I plan to revamp it and market it a little bit different.

I also recently created a bondage/S&M site for married couples but am still deciding what direction to take it. I may end up making it a paid membership site.

Good luck with your how-to guide.

I did adult for a number of years, sold it all off because it was way too much work and there was way too much competition. Even more so when it comes to dating and toys, some very big players in both.

On a side note I've sold a number of sex type plr articles, so some folks are doing it, though more non-adult route.

Is that U.S. Code you're referring to?
Yes, it's U.S. code. I forget sometimes, sorry. Not sure about
    other countries.

Right now, that only pertains to content producers, as in images and video.
If you have images on your site (and you live in the U.S.) you
better be able to prove that they are legal.

I'm in the industry, selling ebooks.

My experience is that it's pretty tough competition, so you have to be willing to put in a lot of effort (and trial-and-error) to make it work well, just like with any "big" niche.

However, most of the players in this industry have TERRIBLE products. So make sure you know what you're talking about if you plan to get into it. Write your own stuff, and KNOW what you're talking about - the subtleties come through.

I can say, honestly, that based on the (very successful) competitors' products I have viewed, I have one of the best products in this niche.

However actually marketing it is a little more difficult for me. I'm learning though.

You do have to be a bit creative in some ways though because due to "adult" content some places can be a real pain. EzineArticles always rejects my articles until I point out I already have a heap with the same website that has been published. Then they apologize and publish it.

    Happens every freakin' time...

To me selling pills and the likes are to risky, I know first hand. A few years back my dad received some "pills" in the mail, no warning, no precautions, nothing on the packaging. Course he shouldn't have taken it, but he did. He had a stroke and has never been the same since. Actually it's to the point now, that his time is very limited.

He had some pre-exsisting conditions, that probably would have caused a stroke sooner or later, but in this case the pill made it happen. Long story short there has been a law suit pending.

Don't mean to side track the thread, just some food for thought, for people thinking about selling pills. It might not be just the producer that gets a suit.

Wow! This has turned out to be some thread.

Anyways there is some really great chunky info in here already. And yes the freaks are coming out of the woodwork which is great!

One thing that caught my eye a while ago was adult dating sites. Most of the good ones always charged a fee. I always thought about doing a free one and monetizing through ads. Recently there was an ad on melbourne radio talking about a free adult dating site.

That just shows that if you have a good idea you should take off with it and not look back. I know this may be somewhat irrelevant, but this is something i see happening to the car, boat and realestate sites. At the moment all the big ones charge a fee. And boy do they make a killing but to date there are no big competitors offering a free service and monetizing through ads.

Could you imagine competing with carsales.com.au in australia. That think is worth millions and the would probably buy you out!

any way... Dont let me stop the raunchy marketing stories with my boring carsales.

There is plenty of money to make ---not afraid to share.

After finishing your book ---edit, edit, edit and then have 2 other people edit, then you do the final edit. Trust me, that's the only way to get it right.

There are as many facets to the 'adult' industry as there are to the IM niche - 'adult' does NOT necessarily mean porn or pills, but rather encompasses pretty much anything that has to do with any aspect of sexuality, and that you are not (likely) to find at the local grocery store.

Adult products range from sexy lingerie to 'specialty' furniture and accessories, and there are a lot of products that are very niche oriented that you can indeed sell without crossing the line.

As AnarchyAds pointed out - you really don't want to step over the line if you can avoid it and a huge part of the problem is the definition of 'obscenity': mainly the fact that there really is none. Obscenity is a 'community' defined term, so what your local city views as just fine may be considered obscenity one county over.

I personally would not touch any 'enhancement' pills or potions, or anything where I have to worry about 2257 regs - not worth the risk!

That being said - it's a huge market and there is no reason why you can't find a safe niche to do business in - just use some common sense and stay away from the potentially problematic areas.
