I know that Fiverr does not allow you to ask for or exchange email addresses. I also know that some people have a back end set up where they give the person a link instead of a download on gig delivery. That link has an optin. so..

Does Fiverr ever do anything about that? Do those gigs WORK? Do people pissed about having to optin? does an oto really work in this situation?

What do you think?

I'm implementing mine a slightly different way because I just don't know that the straight up "Im skirting the rules now you've paid me give me your email too" method won't get me Fiverr banned lol.

      DITTO!

I wonder what Fiverr thinks of people giving a link instead of a DL too, even if there were no optin on the page. And how customers would feel about that (I'd be pretty pissed about having to optin to get what I paid for in a Fiverr gig, but I don't think I'd be so mad if I was taken to a DL page with an OTO, as long as I could find my DL in the first 2 seconds of landing on the page)

    Yes, definitely.

If people pay in advance for their gig and then you tell them after they've paid that you require an opt-in as well as the payment, they certainly won't be impressed.

PayPal (rightly and understandably) closes down people's accounts for this trick, at the first customer complaint (after investigating it, if it's true, of course). I realise that at Fiverr you're working within the constraints of Fiverr's system, and that the PayPal consideration doesn't apply: I'm mentioning it only to illustrate that people do take this sort of thing pretty seriously. An opt-in is considered "value" (no surprise there?) and asking for "extra value" after the payment and the formation of the agreement is bad.

      *Head Spins*

Alexa, I just saw your AV on someone elses thread reply and I was like.. wait..

now I see you've changed your av *head spins again*

I love to read your opinions on everything and for a moment when I saw the "other alexa head" I was kinda peeved.. like someone trying to steal your rep HAH.

I'm sure it's not like that, but it's awesome you replied here. Now I have to remember your new av...

anyway, Thanks- I was wondering why SOMEONE wouldn't boot a marketer for doing that.

I had no idea about this method until I got a PDF about a way to make money off of PLR. At first read I was like "COOL" then it hit me.. wait.. that's so not above board and so not within the TOS *chuckle*

But it did open my eyes to the idea of a Fiverr back end, if it could be done right.

What do you think about giving the DL from a link, as long as the DL was top and center first thing they see.. with the OTO under it (eye catching somehow). Would that be pushing it? No opt in, Immediate delivery at the top of the page, but an offer below? (and an optin to deliver the OTO doesn't seem unreasonable to me.. but what do you think?)

I can see why you'd want one! I've only ever been a customer there, never a supplier. But I've seen plenty of people there listing their websites in the description of their gigs, and there are always ways of contacting someone through their site, so there seem to be "gray areas"?

I can't see anyone complaining about that? They can get their download without opting in, so they have nothing to complain about, really? The only question (it seems to me) is whether Fiverr themselves are going to object to it. The problem with things like this is that asking for permission (if indeed you ever manage to get a reply out of them) is kind of "inviting them to say no", which they might feel obliged to do, if they wonder whether openly allowing it is going to "set a bad precedent", from their perspective? Whereas, on the other hand, not asking them might just turn out be living dangerously. But you wouldn't think individual customers could really complain about that? :p

Well I think the idea mentioned above about just having a Readme is a good one, and having the addy in my description. I think I overthink things *laugh* I know I do.

I'm just trying to get some small dollars coming in to cover my monthly costs while I build my list and work on my product. I figured having an opportunity to get someone to spend more money couldn't hurt hahaha but I'd really want to do it in a non spammy non black hat non offensive way.

          Thanks for the thoughts Alexa

    • This happened to me.

I reported the seller and now he's gone.

An extra-special added "bonus" is that I might give you a negative review on my blog.

Good to know that they will take quick action on that. What do you think- is there any way to do a Fiverr back end above board without pissing people off?

I have gotten a zip file at time of delivery that has a readme.txt included and lists their other services. That is ok with me as there is no opt-in, I don't have to go to another website etc. However, I believe it would be a violation of fiverr tos.

One thing that I don't like is that sometimes, you WANT to put in an email in (ie if you are paying someone to setup an acct for you and you want to give them an email to use for that). However, you can't do so.

I guess no one would be okay with that.

One thing people don't understand. Each website has Term of Service. If google want to kick x with no reason, they have the right since probably something their TOS say they can.

Many People don't bother read the TOS. They just jump in doing what work for them. If I go to amazon to buy an item and seller send me a link, I wouldn't let him go until he is banned from Amazon. Same goes on fiverr. I paid $5, to get item x. Don't send me your URL. As a manner of fact seller has no right to do such a thing. It is just annoying.

People are getting advertising of all type all the time. I don't think they will be thrilled with someone link to his website instead of provide the service.

I don't think requesting to optin after payment is such a tragedy, I am used to providing my email all the time when I purchase things online...
