Why is making money online so attractive?

I've heard and read that the failure rate for those trying to make money online is in the upper 90 percentile.

If this is true, why does the idea of making money online lure so many people?

Hey, that's pretty good because making money offline is in the 99% percentage failure rate.

The reason that its more attractive is because its easier to reach tons of people. Honestly, I don't find it "that hard." I think most people don't have a plan and that's the biggest issue.

Second biggest issue is listening to idiotic gurus.

I agree on the idiotic guru's. I'm so tired of hearing someone talk about how much money they made from a system, then they are promoting that system for a $300 commission, then they turn around and tell everyone that they have to buy their person new system to know the secrets....oh, but wait, you also have to buy this first system,...Sheeshhhh. I think if people just focus on one system and what is has to offer and be consistent, they will see results. Everyone is so instant gratification -- if something doesn't work for one week, they are on to the next system.
      My 2 cents.

Here are some words of wisdom from a Senior Warrior with a few grey hairs ...

      - A work week of a few hours a day only comes after years of working looooong hours.

      - 6-figures is not a lot of money - it doesn't even get you a trophy wife LOL.

      - Don't marry the trophy wife, go with the girl who was there when you were broke. You know, the one you actually like spending time with.

      - And most of all - strive to do something you enjoy. If making money Online is not it, don't force it to be.

        1. I know that. I've had my IM wake up call already. But, automating everything to the point where you only have to do very little is the goal.

        2. I don't know about that. Making $900000 per year sounds like too much money I'd be able to spend. Especially since I am satisfied with an "average" lifestyle.

        3. No argument there. It was just a fantasy. Never would I marry a trophy wife. I'd choose the average looking girl who is working her butt off as much as I do to pay our bills and stand by me during the tough time any day.

        4. Most people hate their jobs. But they do stick to it for all their life because it pays their bills. Why should online be any different?

I think a lot of people start out seeing $$$ in their eyes, and fantasies of quick riches.

That wasn't what attracted me, it was the ultimate freedom: being able to spend more time with my family and living life on my own terms. And actually doing something enjoyable.

I've heard and read that the failure rate for those trying to make money online is in the upper 90 percentile.
Any time I hear this sort of thing, I have to wonder what that REALLY means. Upper 90% of everyone who does business on the internet? 90% of everyone in the internet marketing business? Or (which I suspect) everyone in the business of trying to sell to other internet marketers?

I what I have learned from IM and from friends who have successful businesses on the web is this. IM tactics are to be used on the general public. Trying to us IM tactics on other IMmers is like two old magicians trying to impress each other. I would image that would be a high failure rate. I have bought products and I have JV'd with people who have nothing to do with the IM industry. They don't even know about it and they are making a living on the internet. One of my partners doesn't even have a list, he just has facebook. I talked him into making a list and a twitter account so he can target them directly as well as exand his range of services. He's watched his sales increase. So my point is, what 90%?

If this is true, why does the idea of making money online lure so many people?

To the OP I think that making money online appears so attractive because people somehow thing it is different to running an offline business.

The concepts are the same and it is only the medium that you are using to reach your customers that changes, and to be honest there is a HUGE market for offline marketing so really nothing is different.

Couple this with thousands of products that show $50,000000000 screenshots all made overnight and you have the hook...

People NEED to believe in the dream and it DOES exist but to my knowledge only if you are prepared to work for it...

I think the idea of being your own boss and having your own schedule appeals to a lot of people and not just for internet marketing. I believe that more people would attempt to start their own brick and mortar business if they had the capital.

IM and MLM or network marketing offline have the appeal of easy, low entry in both start up capital and knowledge base.

Therefore, many more people can attempt these arena's than anything that takes more capital.

What most do not realize is that even though it is an easy entry business, it still is, in fact, a business and it takes the same perserverance, dedication and work as any offline business.

In IM like MLM, some people will paint the picture that you can make tons of money with very little work and the truth is, this is not so. Most of those who paint that picture are either selling you their product in IM or will benefit from your sales as their downline in MLM.

Can you make money in these business models? Yes

Is it as easy as most are lead to believe? No

My guess is that for many people it's attractive, because they think it takes little to no work.

For me it's attractive, because it means I can work from anywhere in the world. And that I can get up and go to bed, when I want. And that I don't have to take a car, bus or train to go to work.

And then it's flexible. If I want to take a day off, I can do so. If I want to make extra money one month, I can do so.

One word covers why I find money online so attractive: freedom

I'm so happy that I quit my job many years ago.

It's attractive because it's easy to get into and doesn't seem to cost an arm and a leg. I think the reason for such a high failure rate is that people let their natural greed and laziness take over, which is why so many so-called gurus out there are able to exploit so many people.

The key point to remember about making money online, or in any business for that matter, is it takes focus, determination, planning, and most of all WORK. There are no free lunches or true get rich quick opportunities - I don't care what the gurus tell you.

If people will go into an online business after thorough research and planning, and with their eyes wide open, they will significantly increase their potential for success.

1 - the rate of failure is not much different than that of other businesses once you weed out the people who jump into 'making money online' without a plan.

(If you were opening a restaurant or a retail store, or any other business which requires some cash and commitment, would you go to it without a plan?)

2 - There is the perception of many that it is easy. There are the 'experts' who sell the idea that you buy a domain, set up a hosting account, and push a couple more buttons, then you'll have the money rolling in. It's often presented by those who either don't know better, or don't care... as being "easy" to make money online.

3 - Then there's the whole factor of there are so many ways to make money online that cost next to nothing to start (but may still fail to produce income), that a lot of people try it because they think either "how can I lose?" or "what do I have to lose?"

I would like to give this advice for newbie who reads this. If you have enough qualifications for a 8.00 - 5.00 Job which gives you enough money for better living, Please go there...... and do internet marketing as part time hobby. IF NOT, dedicate your full time and don't give up until you become a successful internet marketer. You have 8%-10% chance for the success. True, it's 8%-10%. But you can do it. How? make a strong goal and follow it. NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER.........

    Lots of people want to

-fire their boss (without realizing that they don't have self-discipline to run their own company)

-set their own hours (not realizing that IMers often work longer hours than 9-5)

-have unlimited income potential (but also lack that steady stream that a 9-5 brings in)

-goof off all day making $1000s without working (without realizing that there was TONS of work done upfront to get to that point)

I meet people all the time who tell me they want to start a business, but they spend all evening playing video games or watching TV and never do a THING to start.

Everyone wants a push-button system to riches. People think the Internet gives them that, which is why its so appealing.

Oh yeah, and the cost of entry is next to nothing compared to a brick and mortar business.

You can make some decent supplemental income. But so many people dont have a passion for their project, these are usually the spammers. They see how hard you have to work to be successful and people give up. It is very hard to make enough to quit your day job and thats what some people have in mind when they try to create blogs and websites.

I quit my job a few months ago after saving a ton of money and developing a plan. I'm hoping to live comfortably off whatever money I am making when I run out of my savings. I'm doing this because I want to work for myself. I know I'm dedicated. I know I work hard. I can make this work. I have confidence in my plan and what I've learned over the past year (a ton of info). If I can't, at least I know I tried. I only want to live comfortably... not looking for the riches.

Working from home for me kinda sucks. I hardly get out of the apartment. When I get out of the apartment I can't really do much because I'm on a budget. Gets pretty lonely with no coworkers. I have all these distractions around me so I force myself to be cut off from practically everything. I have a desktop computer so I can't venture elsewhere. It sucks. BUT... I work my ass off while trying to avoid burning out.

Ok...so not surprisingly, the reasons cited so far include:

    1. Unrealistic expectations (pipe dream, perception of 'it' being easy, etc.)
    2. Independence / Flexibility / Freedom
    3. Being able to target a wider audience
    4. Low startup costs

Now, may I ask why Offline is not attractive?

Is it because many people associate offline with 'brick and morter' shops requiring major upfront cash commitment? Because I am sure there are many offline businesses that don't require setting up a shop. Are there other reasons?

I think a lot of it has to do with emotion.

A lot of everyday people want that easy escape to riches and unlimited fortunes.

The sales pitches usually relates to the person in every way possible and hits those "hot spots" so to say. So it's easy for people to get soaked into internet marketing really having no idea how much strategy, testing, technique, and most importantly time and commitment.

So they end up giving up after 30 days and think "the product never worked" when in reality it was them who just never really put in the effort.

    Belief = Potential = Action = Results

Its because if you can create an online business...

    - it means you dont have to be anywhere in particular
    - you can work whereever you like
    - you can enjoy the simple things like being able to pick the kids up from school
    - you dont have to join the insane tidal flow of people to and from cities on buses and trains
    - you do not have to spend your life in a cubicle or break your back with hard labour.

These things make the adventure worthwhile.

    - Avoid the systems.
    - Create something with real value.

I think it also has to do with the fact that making money is relatively slow compared to anything other online / computer based. Wanna look at your email? Bam, gmail is open. Wanna know something about a rare bird in Madagascar? You can ask the computer via voice (!) and you have the answer in 3 seconds.
Now try building a nice website and market it. MONTHS. People bore to death in agony during that period.
