Do people support you and your internet business?

Dear Warriors!

Too many times that I seen people go all out their way to take away a person dream. I know when I first got started, I use to always talk about how this business is going to pay off one day.

People always said, "oh, are you in that pyramid crap" or " you can't make money online". The list goes on and on. Please warriors don't allow others to steal your dreams.

If I would had listen to those idiots, I wouldn't be where I'm today. Remember that you only lose once you give up.

I have a list of supporters and a list of cynics. The best thing to do is listen to your supporters. Surround yourself with the right people. People only make fun of what you do simply because they themselves cannot do that, it's definitely not for them, they failed doing this before and QUIT or they think they know it all. Once you actually do start making money, the cynics and hypocrites will go to and start praising you how lucky you are and will start sticking like glue. Be careful of that. Now you know who is true to you and who isn't. Like RS Marketing said "haters gonna hate."

First, I did meet a lot of those. I don't care about their opinion really. I believe in something and I respect people who respect my opinion.

There are too many negative people around us. Don't make them discourage you.

    Thanks for that one Chris..

I never really had the skeptics though. Im so passionate when I talk about this internet stuff, they better not dare say anything against it. I put it down logical for them...

Build a list.. 1000.. If 10% buy what you sell.. paid...

Adsense... Get traffic (just like they do on other sites), paid...

then I tell them how Zuckerburg got his billions like "you know those ads on the side of facebook? Yea those"

If their still skeptical, I just leave them in their box and go back to what I do best.....

My Dad still doesn't believe in it. Whenever I buy something or take a road trip he get surprised and says "you made that much online??". But then a week later he'll make some comment like "I hear XYZ is hiring", or "Have you been applying anywhere?".

Gets annoying but some people have their minds made up. That's what separates us from everyone else, we look at the world differently. Instead of going along with the crowd we make things happen.

That is the freaking worst.. When they try to tell you about a job....

I don't usually get mad but that really gets under my skin.... If all these other guys can make money online and I'm showing you legitimate checks, then why can I do it?

There was a quote I shared on Facebook recently..

      It said something like
"when people hate on you and what you do, their actually hating on themselves because they see you as who they want to be but cant for whatever reason."

We just keep on going tho...

I can totally relate to this. It seems the older generation does not understand the internet, much less internet marketing. I've heard the same thing, I should get a "real" job. As a kid, I rarely listened to dear old dad and as an adult, I respected his opinion but nothing he nor anyone else said would change my mind.

I am an entrepreneur. It's in my blood. It's what makes me happy. It is what I do. I don't have to explain it to anyone.

In the initial stages everyone doubted, but now they don't doubt as they sit in my house which was bought as a result of it, sitting on my furniture which is a result of it and drinking my drinks which is a result of it.

Mind you, people don't get that chance too often for the fact they doubted in the first place!

People tend to voice these kinds of opinions when they don't really know what they're talking about.

They are scared about diving into the online world, they have no knowledge of the internet past emails and facebook, or they are simply jelous of you doing something you love and working on your own terms.

You will face these kinds of people all the time but I find that once you do start to make some money online the people you meet are genuinely surprised, impressed, and in awe of what you have achieved.

Keep heading towards that goal, the more times you fall, the better. This is the only way ensuring you become successful.

    I like this thread lol.

When I first started out I caught a lot of flake because my family thought that the whole online thing was a scam. I still catch a little flake today from family or friends about getting a job, but just smile and blow it off. I'm not flashy which is probably why they don't think too much of what I do, but if they only knew......

In actuality though, forget what people think. Every now and then remind people to mind their business.

My dad, my step-mom, my brother, and my sister all believe I am wasting my time. They keep asking if I have a 'real' job, yet. Never mind that I have made enough working at home (not just IM) to support my family. What I don't have is the commute to work, the wear and tear on my car caused by constant use of my vehicle, expensive clothes that have to be replaced on a regular schedule, lunch expenses, dinner expenses because I'm too tired to cook, or someone looking over my shoulder to see if I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

Oh, scratch that. My husband peers over my shoulder fairly often, but I've made enough in IM that he just wants to learn--I think.

Anyway, I work the hours I want to work, I sleep in if I want to, and I don't have to deal with cubicle fever. Works for me.

Great spirit to have. That relates to me soooo much. I don't allow other people opinions to affect me in anyway. Instead, I realize that if EVERYONE was into being their own boss, then nobody will be able to do this.

Let me explain. If everybody was their own boss, there is no cops, no hospitals, because everybody feels that they can live online. So whenever someone says something bad about my business, I just thank them for allowing me to continue.

Straight up your dreams are yours and when you become an entrepreneur you're a solo person...you're the leader...the captain...the king.

The King has advisors but he doesn't have people to go to and say "oo this is hard I hate being the king..."

    No...

He stands up and makes **** happen in the face of total adversity and ridicule.

The "kings" of the world make **** happen and are the reason we have an economy, science, art, etc...they stood up and wouldn't take no for an answer...and eventually the world bent to their will.

    BOOM!

HAHA yeh whenever I mention interent marketing people seem to often hav ethe misconception until you explain to them the real business aspect.

You can then also have some fun screwing with their minds by going to into some internet lingo and explaining the different aspects of internet marketing from how to SEO sites to Web development to social media marketing...that usually get people to shut up; once they find out that there's actually more to learn about internet marketing and it's an actual profession. They also usually ask a lot of questions...which is why you might also want to avoid this lol

But I usually prefer just not to talk about it. No real point complicating this stuff. I especially try to avoid such conversations with friends or family when possible. I've learnt it's best not to talk about it.
    Why?

    Usually there are 2 senerios:
    1) They discourage you because they don't understand it enough; or they think it's something illicit
    2) They find the value in it and think it's easy cash...then they suddenly want to learn from you.

Best just to avoid these situations and be a good friend or family.

You are quite right, especially when one have spent several months working online without making any money. When I came online I wasn't well informed about how money is made, in fact I wasn't informed at all. So there was a lot of wasted time and money. And if not that I believe so much in becoming my own person and saw the internet as the best way to achieve this because it allows me to work at any time, I would have long quit just because of the many negative talks from friends and neighbors.

The one that breaks my heart the most is that many of my neighbors who always see me at my laptop, believe I am doing something fraudulent. I try as much as possible to make them understand what I do but many don't even want to. So when some make their negative comments I just look at them and laugh. You see, in my country not many people have come to realize the great benefits a computer and internet offers. The sad part is, many don't know and they're not even curious to. But it's all good because eventually some of them will pay me to learn and make me good money in the process.

I believe that anyone that stop chasing a dream because of the negativity of people or the discouragement from them didn't know why he or she wanted the dream in the first place. If you believe in something and want it badly, no one can stand in your way except yourself.

Internet marketing is not for everyone...I had my fair share of people saying..."you are not going to make a business out of this, stick with the day job!" and it took me a hard 10 year slog, to get to the point where I was self sufficient.

I frequently thought about giving up, but I knew I had what it took- and that eventually I'd get there. I have to thank my wife for that too...she had faith in me and knew that one day things would turn around.

I think your friends can be the worst too...mine used to give me a hard time until whilst on a walking holiday in the UK , after a day of enjoying the sights and drinking local ale...we got back to the Mongolian Yurt we were staying in...and I logged in to see how sales were going and I'd made a few hundred dollars while we had been having a good time. They were amazed and don't- "rib" me anymore

That is the true beauty of what we do, automatic recurring income from multiple streams. Dennis Becker and Steve Pavlina were an inspiration to me and by applying a methodology based on their ideas things really turned around for me, my life is really good and I'm looking forward to a comfortable retirement in the Mediterranean. Isn't it great when you can get a "real" mentor or two that don't just know what they're doing but actually over deliver time and again with nothing but quality?

My husband is supporting everything I do and anything I need to do, he actually listens to where I'm going with it, helps when I'm undecided as to which direction to go and honestly (as I have a few different paths I could take) - I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to do if he wasn't on board, so my heart goes out to those that really are doing it solo.

I started IM a couple of years ago and and made great progress, learned a lot, but struggled to get my head around some of the more advanced terminology enough to keep progressing, I kept hearing it used in every single thing I signed up for, but do you think anyone anywhere would say what it actually was? I tried endlessly to find out what I needed to know and eventually, after 10 months just threw in the towel.

Now I'm working under the guidance of some pro's that NEVER use the word "secret" and deliver much more than everything I was looking for two years ago. I guess I just chose all the wrong damn companies back then

There have been a few people who ask me what I do "on the internet" and how I make money at it. Their eyes glaze over when I try to explain about websites, keywords, SEO etc, so I usually just avoid talking about it. Can't say that they are negative about it - it just doesn't make a lot of sense to them.

At first, NO. Reason being, you loose the security of getting cash-in-hand at the 1st of every month. People see at your EMIs, your bills, and say, "How in the world you are going to pay them?".

I was really disappointed and irritated by these comments. But if you look closely, they are reminding you of what you have to keep in mind when you move out from your regular job to a internet Business. Its like doing a regular business, there's profit and there's loss to. Listening to these comments can be of use sometimes, but then, there are a bunch of people who are always jealous. Don't give a darn to what they say.

As Steve Jobs once said -
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. - Steve Jobs

It takes partnerships to really take this business to a new level. no one person, no matter how good they think they are can do it alone.

If someone is not keen to helping or encouraging you, move on to one that will. Don't waste time with the "haters"

Personally, I've had a very good experience here in this forum. I help everytime I can and
people do the same for me.

My family and close friends support me in my business. My dad has been self-employed his entire life, so I grew up in an entrepreneurial environment and with an entrepreneurial mindset. Dad doesn't know much about the Internet (and doesn't really care), but he supports me.

My ex-fiance, however, did not. We were engaged shortly before I had the opportunity for coaching and to learn my business model last year. I was so excited, but he bluntly told me he didn't agree with it and didn't think I should be doing it.

Unfortunately, I didn't take him as seriously as I should have. I think he resented the time I spent on it (with some justification). Ultimately, it was a critical factor in our breakup. I wasn't asking him for money or to participate in my business. But I DID need his emotional support. ("Baby, I love you and believe in you. You can do this!")

Entrepreneurship runs in my blood. I come from a family of self-employed people. It's part of who I am as a person. His lack of support (with no hesitation about telling me exactly what he thought), was a MAJOR blow to our relationship. (This coming from someone working minimum wage jobs like Subway and At&T call centers.) It's hard to convey in words exactly how not supporting my business activities really means not supporting me as a person. But it was a critical factor in our breakup. I realized I couldn't spend the rest of my life with someone who didn't "get" me and support me.

Everyone else in my life supports me.

Very strong words. Sorry that you didn't get the full support from your ex-fiance. Keep your head up and this business will work for you. I just can't say it enough.

Yep, now more then ever. With all this ****ed up economy they understand what I've been telling them since 2004: this is the future - even for business.

But everynow and then you meet with a genius telling you the internet doesn't make it. lol

Prior to making money online, no. No one supported anything I did online (except my girlfriend). They thought that this whole thing was a dream.

Now... they either try to pretend like they always cared or they think that I just got some big tax return an that's how I bought a new motorcycle, tv's, computers, game systems, and all that lol.

I think you start to realize who your real friends are when you get into this industry.

My best friend is Will and he'll stay my best friend because he was okay with it, he didn't crazy support it, but he wasn't putting me down like everyone else.

All my other friends, they're gone. I don't talk to them because I see how little they thought of me.

To be honest, I'm WAYYYY happier now

I think the source of the problem is a lack of understanding in most peoples' minds about work today. "Jobs" are a thing of the past, and are getting outmoded and deleted more and more often. The boring stability of the Industrial Revolution model, and the 1950s-style corporate succession planning ("You start at AT&T in 1955 as an engineer, and we have your career all mapped out for you already: by 1975 you'll be a division manager and according to your test scores that's as high as you'll go") are what our parents and grandparents--and most of our contemporaries!--are familiar with. So they knee-jerk and go straight to that...even after you've shown them month after month that you're making MUCH more money than you would working a wage or salary job! That one really gets me.

The cause of this reaction in others is FEAR. They don't understand the Internet and how work is changing, so they go with the Pavlovian response of "When are you going to get a *real* job"...read in: boring stability at a lower level, apparent safety, no risk. All, as you'll note, not the features of an entrepreneurial spirit.

It's tough, I know, to shrug this stuff off, especially when it's directed from a family member. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals, even if they're "online" friends you've never met in person, is totally necessary. Then you get that mastermind thing going, too. I don't advise it to others, but I've cut people out of my life completely (including family members) when they haven't been supportive...but I can be a tough SOB.

My wife didn't really believe me until I showed her my first check for $17,000 in one month back in 2004. Ever since then she's gone from "get off that stupid computer" to "why aren't you on the computer?"

As a society we're programmed from childhood to go to school, go to university, get ONE job as your career, retire from that ONE job after 30 years and live on your pension and benefits then die.

The ones who don't follow that path are in the minority. There are also less millionaires versus non-millionaires in the world and it's directly related to the path being followed versus not being followed. Taking risks and going out on your own is NOT easy. There are some classes you can take to learn it, but if your heart is not in it, you'll fail.

Our loved ones who are on the regular path don't understand how we could ever venture off it. They're protective of us and don't want us to get hurt. So naturally they tell us that it's not going to work to get us back on the regular path. If you've grown up in a household with an entrepreneur, you realize that there's more then just the regular path.

I've had to explain to my kids that me being at home all the time and mommy being at home all the time is not normal. Most kids have both their parents going to work everyday. But my kids have never experienced that. They think it's normal to have both parents at home all day long.

When they grow up I've already told them they have 2 options. Go and get a degree after high school or open your own business but you can't sit idle and do nothing. I'm raising them to see more then one path in life and will support them either way.

If your loved one is not supporting you, you need to educate them, don't sell them, educate them. Once you start seeing some money flowing in, show them that too. It takes time but once you've got your family supporting you there is literally no limit to how high you can go.
