Developing WP plugin should it be, Open source, hosted, paid licence?

Hi Guys
I am in the final stages of developing a wordpress plugin that will be used by internet marketers.

And no this post isn’t a pitch....... (no sig..)

I’ve been thinking over the last week about the future roadmap of the plugin and how it will be developed as extra features will be added.

One question that arises all the time is how to deal with the licence arrangements.

Right from the offset of this project I have been developing it as 2 versions Free and Paid....

Sounds straight forward....

Then I have been considering Open Source for the whole plugin and monetize through Hosted servers for them that want no Hassle of installing wordpress or the plugin?

Just like WordPress itself...

Has anybody tried this?
Had experience of building a community of developers?
Tried selling their plugin as hosted/installation provided?
