Domain name purchase and hosting setup questions

Okay, so I had ready on here plenty of times to purchase my domains separately from where I will host them. I use BlueHost and had been buying through them.

So I just bought a new domain a few minutes ago on NameCheap, plugged in the bluehost DNS into Modify Domain section of NameCheap, but I am not sure if that was what I am supposed to do or what to do next.

I don't see the website in BlueHost, and I really just need some help or instructions on what steps specifically to take after I purchase the domain on NameCheap. I want to put it as an add-on domain on my BlueHost account.

I don't use Bluehost but I use NameCheap for all my domains. You have done the right thing with the DNS section of the Domain management console in NameCheap.

With my host you have to submit a request to add a domain. You probably need to send a "domain addition" request to Bluehost... They should then add the domain to your account.

Without being a Bluehost member though, it's hard to know.

You have acted wisely by purchasing your domain and hosting from separate providers. The reasons for doing this are posted all over the forum if you search, so I won't repeat them.

On the face of it, the above should do the job. It can take from a couple of minutes to many hours for the domain to propagate (be available on your web hosting). So be patient.

If you have problems, both your domain host and your web host will help if you contact them.

      Best of luck,

      Jeff.

Silly question, but did you actually put a website up? Or a welcome page of some sort?

You would have to add on the domain to your Blue Host hosting account.
Have you done this already? Here some info on how to do this...

Wow, thank you all for the quick replies. You guys rock! I hadn't completed the step of actually adding the domain on BlueHost. Now it is all good to go. Thanks again!
