Help needed for new site

Hi all,

can you give me some guidance on my new site at SuccessDept.com

Any feedback both positive or negative would be great.

It is not completed yet as it needs a few hundred more products and some reviews.

I am really interested in any ideas for the front page.

If I have no idea what your site is about in the first few seconds of my visit, I'm not going to be there for very long

      Thats the thing.

I wasn't sure to have some intro text or not. Hopefully most people will arrive at the product pages which I hope are self explanitary.

I will get to work on the index page.

I'm viewing in Firefox and the sidebar has some problems with the text as well as the header in the center column. I own some neural training CDs and self hypnosis tapes and I think the site could be more dynamic with the use of color. I equate hypnosis with meditation so maybe more Zen is in order but more Zen may not be mainstream enough. Anyway, I'd suggest a strong header giving some strength to the reviews.

      Archer,

Thanks for this. Once the site is done it will be more of a general 'Self-Help' site rather than one just promoting hypnosis mp3's. I will have a play around with the colours though.

With regards to you CD's - do you have an affiliate scheme? If so please let me have the details as I may wish to add them to the site.

      Cheers,

I usually get $499.00 for a site review, but I feel mezmerized by this thread so I will do it for free.

Other than it took 45 seconds to load you homepage, I think it looks good.

A hypnotic logo would be nice.

    nice idea,
    good luck,

Yeah, to me the design is ok... but like someone posted earlier, it's hard to tell what the site is for without having to look around.

At an SEO standpoint, there is a lot that needs to be fixed (unless you aren't going after natural listings)... It looks like you haven't even researched the keywords you want to go after either. The title tags of your pages should include your researched keywords as well as a good description of the page. The keywords should also be throughout your content. Interlinking the pages of your website using the keywords as the anchor text would also be ideal.

One last thing, I see the site is mostly database driven.. If there is a way you can get static html pages instead of links ending in "?option=com_jreviews&Itemid=16&url=Product-Reviews/mental-health/death-and-dying_c81_m16/" you will be much better off. This is because the search engines have trouble indexing these pages most of the time.

The site uses joomla so that shouldn't be a problem, I am just not that sure how to do it yet so have to wait until tomorrow when my joomla savvy friend can have a look at it.

That will be good if you can get that taken care of. I'd also recommend doing some research on "top seo practices" so you can get a better understanding of what you should be doing for that.
