How Do I Start a Job Finder Site

Hi everyone, I'm looking to start a job finder website for graduates here in Nigeria. I want to integrate the job search into an online forum which will be taking off very soon. Please, has anyone here done this before? I need to know how to go about it. Any references, tips, helps, will be very much appreciate. Thanks.

What forum are you using? As far as for the script, I know a very good one jobberbase.com. Is free and is really easy (to use). Good lucK!

I've used jobberbase before also and I think that is the best free script out there. Hopefully there is not as much competition in Nigeria as there is in the UK. I found it very hard to break into that market over here.

The competition is there, all right. Although, it is not much compared to what you may have in the UK or US. I find it easier because I'm a Nigerian. I know how the system works, and I intend to promote the site using more of offline methods.

MarketM, thanks for your input. I just checked out the site, but I have a couple of issues with the script. The forum is not entirely a job-search forum. I intend to have a general forum for graduates, and offer job openings as a plus for being a member of the forum. Can I do that with jobberbase?
Secondly, can I monetize the site using other methods such as adsense, adverts, etc (works best here), since I'm not charging anything for job posting or application.
Thirdly, I see some paid scripts out there and they offer a lot of options that I will like to have on the forum. Things like: resume creation and posting, applying for multiple jobs automatically, auto sms/email alerts, etc. Can I get them with jobberbase?

Are there any other recommended scripts out there?

Thanks, once again, for your inputs. Keep them coming, please.

    Sam

You have to visit all the institute and collect the data in Nigeria. Data means email id, content number, education qualification, etc, Because database is very important for portal site. Than you have analysis in Nigerian market, Which job are most required in corporate now days. Than focus latest requirement and target particular student for that position.

You can start from email marketing and invite for registration with free or discount.

I wouldn't spend any money on it. Perhaps you can convince local recruitment agencies to list all the jobs on the site? If there is some way of them exporting their jobs and you importing them into jobberbase all the better.

You'd stand a better chance of making money from a job board/forum if its services were sold to employers by subscription and given to the job seekers.

Banner ads would be possible, too. They would target both employers and job seekers.

The word I've heard about AdWords and AdSense is that you can quickly accumulate a bill with little payback to you.

How does the job board solve problems for the unemployed and the employer? Seems you need the "unique selling proposition" that's missing from too many plans to make money with a website. Your forum/job board has to deliver something needed. How about going and talking to the employers to find out what they're NOT getting?

    Software of choice: Wordpress.

I'm like 99% certain there are job classifieds style scripts out there you can simply download, upload to your server, configure and be on your way. Maybe Google "job classified script" or something?

why not look at the idea of working with a developer for a revenue share - assuming you are a non-techy which plans to do the marketing side, of course.

i only suggest this because bespoke systems are often the way to go if you are developing a large and sustainable business based around one platform/
