To whom this may concern:

Hello, i am Davido's son and i have sad news for those who knew him here. DavidO, AKA David O'Hara, my father, passed away this september the 26th.

I am left to take over the family business and it is a bit over my head since he died unexpectedly and suddenly. He left us with next to no documentation and i am praying to god his laptop with alll stored credentials such as this log-in for example last as long as i need it to. I am in the process of backing up this HD to an external just to be safe.

I know he was involved in this forums since i have access to his emails ect. I hav emanaged to get access to his domain. I still have his filezilla log-in in his cache but the structure of his site is such that i cannot edit his "index.html" because it does not exist in the root of the tree.

He did have wordpress installed and i use that on my own site but this is just for a blog that is somehow attached to his site as a static HTML page that is called.

All very confusing to me since his site, to me, looks like it is neither plain HTML pages nor using the Wordpress platform.

Any suggestions?

I'd definitely take up Matt's kind offer because from the sound of things, you really need someone you can trust to get in their and take a look at things for you. This should save you a lot of time rather than you having to try and explain everything in posts on a forum.

First and foremost, very sorry to hear of your loss.

While I am sure there are several people here qualified to assist you in managing the site(s), this is without question an eye-opener to all whom have online assets.

As a 'newbie' to internet marketing myself, the thought of the hours and effort invested to create a successful online business, it is, in and of itself; irreplaceable.

In respect to your father's accomplishments, the mere thought of my children having to take on all my accounts without any real instruction; would seem to be an uphill task, being I have over 300 accounts set up, with a series of log-ins and passwords, payment processors, etc...

Naturally, I want my children (at least one of them) to attain the basics, whereby if ever I were to pass, they could pick-up where I left off. In fact, I'd like to thank-you for sharing, as it motivates me (and hopefully others) to plan accordingly, and leave a journal or a written walk-through behind for the next, 'in hope' it could serve as a 'blueprint' or 'mind map' to guide them to succeed my current and future online efforts.

If nothing less, I respect the challenge you face, and believe this 'topic' can be of great benefit to those who 'have not' considered "how" or "by whom" their online efforts might be survived by in the future?

I wish you all the best in carrying on your Dad's business. Truly, it's an inspiration to any father!

David's sites would be an extra bit complicated. He was one of the people that spent time in the web design section asking questions. He did some very nice things with them.

One of his topics on the old forum passed on a tip that I still make use of and I tend to be reminded him every time I do. Sorry to hear he is gone.

Just from one of his sites and his products, I thought he might have had a blood pressure problem. If I'm not being to insensitive, could I ask what led to the end, or if that was what did it?

Best wishes. Good luck getting that sorted out. At least you are getting into sites with at least one that seems to be making some money. That's a nice start, and the intricacies get to be interesting.

  Another suggestion is for you to read through threads your Father started here. He often talked about his own sites and you may be able to get some tips on the sites from what he wrote here.

Since you have a blog and you're backing up the laptop, it seems you are familiar with the essential basics. Even then there can be details that just stop things, or take a long time to figure out.

This has me thinking too about the what if. I am creating a book with instructions so that my son can find a How To guide if something happens to me.
