Best Way to Host Multiple Websites...!?!

Hey Warriors,

I would like to ask you osmething.
I have several websites and each one of them is hosted on hostgator. I really like the service they provide. It is quite costly though, since each website costs $9 per month. It's not bad with 10 of them but if I want to have 50 or 100 niche websites, paying $900 per month could be a bit costly.
My question is: How do you host your websites, especially if you have many of them?
Thank you
Jerzykaz

Judging from what you have said, I'm guessing you set up a new hosting account for each site?

You should consider a reseller hosting package (host gator has this), you can also host multiple sites on 1 ($9) hosting account using add on domains function in cpanel

      Thanks mate,
In other words I can host multiple sites for $9 if I choose a different package?

Yep. I use the baby croc package. $10 gives you unlimited add on domains and storage!

So you have purchased new hosting for each of your website if I understand you? If so, yes you were doing it wrong Just upgrade your current plan to Baby plan, which allows you to host unlimited websites at $7.96 / month.

I simply used their live chat when I was upgrading my hosting plan.

Take a look at the Reseller Hosting. It's what I use to host my 50+ sites. It's $25 per month. It also gives you a Webhost Manager Account which lets you set up each domain with it's own cPanel which makes it look more professional.

    Just my 2 cents,

If you're somewhat technical, setup your own VPS. It will cost you $40 at godaddy. You can setup as many accounts as you wish. You become the hosting of your own site.

I would setup using Linux OS. It's much more stable than Windows. Plesk is sufficien
t for most needs. Cpanel has more features but you have to pay extra. Godaddy's chat tech support is pretty good so they are very helpful.

The common knowledge among IMers is to run away from GD as far as you can and as fast as you can... :p

On the other hand, I'd also suggest using a reseller account: addon domains never work as well as each domain with its own cPanel, databases etc.

That may be your experience, but I have had no issues at all running up to 20 addon domains per hosting account.

I use HostGator, Bluehost and Justhost.

A issue I have heard about (not experienced myself, unfortunately) is that if one or more of your sites start pulling major traffic you will be asked by the hosting company to upgrade your account.

In all cases there is no such thing as "unlimited" bandwidth or space - there is always a fair use clause in the fine print.

It would definitely be best to use Hostgator.com or GoDaddy.com and look for an unlimited domain plan so that you can get the most out of your money and have a great profit as well. Then connect your website to a template and start making money!

I work for a hosting company and therefore, have quite a lot of experience with web hosting.

I understand that you would like to host multiple websites. You do not have to purchase a separate hosting account per site you want to host.

All you have to do is purchase a shared hosting account that allows you to host unlimited domains, or sometimes referred to as "Addon Domains," and you can control and add all of your domains in your cPanel control panel.

Another option (this is a bit more costly, but gives you more control and flexibility), is to purchase a reseller hosting account, that allows unlimited account creations. Not only can you create cPanel accounts for your own sites, but you can create hosting accounts for your clients, friends, and family. So if you know any clients/friends who need hosting, you can sell it to them at whatever price you want to help pay for the reseller. Or, for another scenario, if you're a web design company and want to expand into web hosting you can start off with a reseller account.

I hope this clears it up for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Best,

Regarding Primary and Add-on domains, I copied this from a web site (sorry I don't have enough points yet to post the link)

"Search Engine Robots crawl all over the web through any existing domain in order to index every site they find on the internet. This puts you in a situation where you have your website at two different addresses: secondary.com, and secondary.primary.com, which means you have duplicate content to deal with, and this is a big SEO "no-no"."

This wasn't addressed in this thread. Any comments?
