How reliable is Free hosting & domain reg.

Hello guys,

I was surfing the web and I stumbled on a site that offered Free webhost and domain registration and it seemed too good to be true.

I'd like to use it at least to test the new projects I have - to see how my marketing formulas work.

My question is, have you used or heard about this before? and would you recommend it, also, what are the dangers (if any) of using this sort of service commercially?

Thanks everyone.
Raphael.

I don't think there would be a problem using a free host for testing, but the free host might not be quite as up to date as a paid for host.

Not long ago Google deindexed a lot of sites using free domains(co.cc I think) because there were a lot of spammers using them.

If I were to use a free host I would always buy the domain, just in case. Then it would be easier to move a site to another host.

The problem with free web hosts is that it tends to attract abusers who like to spam and do illegal activities off the servers. Most free hosts also have ads and space/bandwidth limitations.

I recommend spending a few bucks a month on some paid, reliable hosting, as free hosting can cost you a lot more than that in the long run, in terms of the downtime and slowness you'll face.

    Best,

Weebly - Create a free website and a free blog Their free hosting is excellent and you don't have to worry about being next door to a scammer. I use it even for some sites I sell from, and having their link on the bottom has never seemed to deter people from buying.

well, I'm not quite certain about that, but I think it's free hosting, without the membership clause that is.

I would only say one thing, you get what you paid for.

So, if you paid nothing , ... don't expect much

  • I have never used the free hosting services, but as I know the problem is their non stable provided service. Your host may disconnected several times. So your site wont'be visible at this moment. If the crawler visits your site while it's not connected to the host, the spider may assume this site doesn't any more exists and will remove from its results

Well Free hosting come with restrictions on memory space and bandwidth so you can't think about running a high traffic site. Plus the support is not at par with paid hosts, so you can't expect 100% uptime. I agree with Jeremy, Weebly is indeed a great option and a trusted site so you can use it.

I wouldn't want to trust a money site to free hosting or free domain. What if you wanted to sell the domain at some point? Do you have control over it? I doubt it. What if the free host decides your site is spam or is using too much of their resources. Pooof... it's toast in an instant.

Its really hard to find a reliable free host but as far as testing is concern free hosting is fine else I recommend cheap web hosting solutions.

    Hi Raphael, you like pizza?

FREE HOSTING IS A BAD IDEA!!

#1 they will put ads on your site
#2 they are slow and outdated, so when you are about to show your friend the site it's un-reachable. Happened alot to me.
#3 domain names are not free. You won't find a COM/NET/ORG without paying money. Some hosts offer free domain name but you have to pay hosting fees.
#4 some domains are made free like ******** and **** by their providers but they are the ones that that are least popular (by overusing them)

Some free hosting/website 2.0 sites are awesome like freewebs and webly but not all of them.

If you are looking for good and affordable host, try FatCow.com you can setup for around 40 bucks a year and get a free domain name.

Free hosting would be better for the beginners, but when you move in to create a professional website you have to opt for the paid services. There are numerous free hosting providers say freeindianhosting, who support free and paid hosting the same way..

There's too much spam and illegal activity involved. Always go paid, it's really not expensive for the amount of money to be made.

Never go with free hosting, shared hosting industry is so saturated with hosts right now that plans go for as low as $2.99 a month with a large pool of resources. Granted, some of the hosts offering that low are just as bad as free hosts, but some big names have coupons to get down to this pricing.
