New Here & Saying Hello

Hi,

I'm Carla and I'm brand spanking new around here and to IM in general. It is very overwhelming. I've been searching around and trying to make sense of it all so just taking it in little by little.

I'm a former 9-5er who jumped ship to pursue writing. Two kids sidetracked me just a little and now I want to focus my efforts on building something successful with IM to allow me the freedom to write.

I'm so new to this I'm still figuring out what all the different options are for generating income but I mean business so I'm hitting the ground running =)

If you've got any tips for someone super new to this, I'll take them!

Hello Carla, welcome to WF and the internet marketing world! This is a great community for you to start with. A place full of experts you can ask help and advice from.

As for the overwhelming feeling, I know how that feels. I started IM Jan of 2011. What I did was I took everything one thing at a time. Focus and study one thing and get really good at it to a point where people see you as an expert. They will come to you and ask for your help. Now I charge people hourly to help and consult them. So it really helps to have a specialty.

Another thing you must have is your own WordPress blog. I can help you out with that if you like. Just contact me. A good example is the site on my signature file.

Another is always stay consistent and motivated with what you do. IM takes a lot of consistent actions done daily to actually see good results.

Anyways, welcome again and good luck!

      Hi Carla!

I have been where you are at - I wish I would have found this forum when I was there.
As for making a living online, here are a few things to check out and see if they are for you:

-affiliate marketing (advertise other people's products for a commission)

-info product creation & marketing (make your own products to sell online ex: ebooks, how to videos)

-"offline" marketing (helping local businesses in your community market their business online - I do some of this)

-having a store(s) on the Internet (I have 2 of those)

-offer services to online marketers (like article writing, graphic design, link building, setting up websites or social media pages, etc)

Those are just a few off the top of my head. Don't worry if you don't know quite what I am talking about - if you poke around on here long enough you will be able to fill in the blanks.

If you are already interested in writing - maybe you could turn that into an advantage and write articles for people or write copy for their websites. Or you could research to find a subject people want to know about and write an ebook & sell it. The thing about the Internet is there are SO many options!

I know I would love someone to write product descriptions for my stores - I dread doing that!

Let me know if you need some help!

      Good luck

    Hey Carla,

    Welcome to the forum!

My advice for getting started (and you'll hear this a lot) - Don't jump from one thing to another too quickly without giving it a chance. You will be more successful by sticking with ONE THING and making it profitable and enjoyable, jumping from thing to thing will only wear you out. There are LOTs of things that entice newbies into making money online, try to ignore as much of this as you can.

If I were you I would start like this:

Build a website with Wordpress.org (a challenge in itself at first but there is plenty of help around the forum) - probably the easiest way of making your own site though.

Then offer a writing service and insert PayPal subscription or Buy It Now buttons. Promote it through the Warrior forum and through offering Fiverr gigs.

Post up a WSO here in the forum and watch the orders roll in.

Learn SEO or hire a team to rank your site for some marketing keywords in Google to increase your stream of traffic to your site.

Upsell with affiliate or other offers.

^ You can learn how to do all this stuff from WarriorForum and Google.

Good luck in whatever path you decide to take

Welcome to the WF. There are some great people here to help you along the way. I would say visit the WF each day and read a few posts and join when you can.

Article writing seems to be a pretty good step for you. You might want to try fiverr or odesk to get a few gigs or even here in the WF looking to hire section. You might not get rich over night but you can build a solid business.

Hey, Carla. Welcome to the Warrior Forum. People who know how to do research and write unique, quality content are in high demand. You could be a ghostwriter by writing for other people on a site like elance.com, or you could start your own PLR store on Wordpress. PLR is Private Label Rights content is content that people can purchase and modify and use as their own.

With a PLR store, you would write content on various topics based on what people are looking for in the search engines. In addition, you can take topic requests and run PLR specials for quick money. Unlike ghostwriting, having a PLR store enables you to generate residual income and work around your schedule without having to worry about client deadlines and such. As with ghostwriting, having a PLR store allows you to get paid via Paypal.

You also have the option of starting a niche blog that focuses on a particular topic like dating, weight loss, learn Spanish, make money, golf, pet care industry, fashion, toys...and usually contains both product reviews and related info. Your income is residual since you rely a lot on getting traffic from the search engines. That said, you can also make money by building a list, selling ad space, doing forum marketing...

As someone who actually likes to write, you have a lot of options open to you. You just kind of have to dive in and pick a method and go with it to see which method you like best. That said, it's also possible for you to start out as a ghostwriter to get money coming now while you are building up your blog or PLR store for residual income.

    Good luck,
    Joey

    Welcome Carla,

I suggest that you use the search feature on the forum and search "newbie". There has been lots of great advice given to newbies in lots of other threads.

I also recommend that you join the War Room. It has a one time lifetime $37 fee but is really worth if for all the free stuff you get.

Also when you join the war room you can PM otherwise you have to wait until after 50 posts.

Make sure that you read the stickies in each forum so that you know the rules so your posts don't get deleted.

This is a very helpful and friendly place but you won't get a lot of answers to a post question that has been answered many times before. So search for whatever you are going to post a question about and then if you don't find an adequate answer state that you searched and still need to know whatever it is in the post.

    Good luck.

    Hi Carla,

The first rule in IM is to make a research about it. Read, Read, Read. Research, research, research. After that try to choose one strategy that you think will be suitable for you.
Here's some tips on how to get started.

Start by choosing a niche (Subject you're good at) then create a blog or website (HTML type of site will work). If you don't know how to create one try to do a research about it. It will take a day or two to learn some stuffs over the net. If you do not want to create it by yourself you can try some companies that offer really cheap wordpress designs like for $20-$40.

After that, try to put some good content as much as possible. At this stage if you know some basic SEO apply it to your site to increase it's traffic (number of visitors) thus, increasing your chance to get spotted.

Next, put some adsense to your site or clickbank. You can also try clicksense. It will give some revenues like $1-$20. It's really small at first but it pays off once you learn the flow from it. It takes time to master it so don't get disappointed if you're getting a few dollars. Take it slowly but surely.

Another thing since you've mentioned that you love writing, try to do affiliate marketing. Create an E-book of your interest. Like "10 tips on how to look like a celebrity", or something like that. Selling e-books online would be a good start.

    2nd Tip

You've mentioned that your into writing. Our fellow warriors here loves to try new writers. If you think you're good at it why don't you give a shot to it? 400-500 words for $3-$5 would be good to start. Do content writing, product reviews, etc.

Don't be afraid to take risks, Just try. If you fail try again. If you fail again try to learn from your mistakes and then try again.

    Hope this post helps.

Please hit the thank you button if you think my post helps you.

    Hi Carla,

We have a similar background in that I am also a professional writer as well as marketer and my advice would be to learn as much as you can, practice what you have learned until you become successful at it and then translate that knowledge into creating your own products.

That way, you feed your own creativity while acquiring a heap of money-making skills. Don't forget, though, to carve out time for your writing otherwise you'll simply get swept up in the often crazy whirlwind that is IM. Plan out your week and even your days so that you maximise your time and learn to outsource whatever you can.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!
