Hi guys just wondering if you could help. Is it OK to forward domains to other sites I own or can this cause you problems with google? I am only forwarding one or two to the other sites.

  • Hi kuma,

i personally forward my sites that there is no issue with Google.

There are 2 choices that you can choose which are temporary and permanent forwarding. Permanent forwarding gives you better ranking with google
  • Thanks xavierfok

I have just forwarded them using the tool where my domains are hosted is this considered permanent?

    • Hi Kuma,

I might be wrong, but I have forwarded a couple of domains just as you did. I considered it a permanent measure. I guess what Xavier is talking about is when somebody changes the forwarding address fairly frequently. I would imagine that Google would not like that.
  • Hi Kumar,

Sorry I made a mistake. There is only one form of forwarding. I just checked my godady account.

So far I have not had any problems with that.

    Cheers and enjoy life!
  • AS I understand, the preferred form of redirect is a 301 permanent. Probably what Godaddy is giving.

For those browsing through, as I understand you can redirect the entire domain, so any links to any page of the old site will go to the front page of the redirect destination and SEO link juice will be passed.

Individual destination pages can have individulized redirects from a live site, with code in the htaccess file on most of our cheap Linux hosts we use. This allows better matching replacement for each page, rather than re-routing all of them to one.

Is this a Website Design topic?
