Who is your best mentor and coach

Success does not come from buying into an income opportunity, but through the lesson you learn from your mentor and coach.

Do you have a mentor or coach and how many and what was the biggest lesson you learn from them?

Well I have my father as a great mentor to me. We're doing business together I'm pretty new in this industry but my father has been here for a while now so he's very knowledgeable already.

As for a role model or someone I'd like to achieve the same feats, it's David Wood. He's amazing and we have a lot in common. He's an internet marketing powerhouse. Looking to get to his level one day.

haha awesome. Gotta love Frank Kern! He's amazing as well. And yes, what he said about making a f***** product and get out there and sell is definitely true! No BS there.

The problem with advice like that is that it is
      often taken out of context.

Yes, create a product and get it out there. BUT
only when you've thoroughly researched the
market and you know there's a large enough
group of people with money to spend on the
      product you intend to offer.

Of all the potential coaching clients I've talked to,
the most common reason for their lack of progress
is the absence of proper niche research.

I think it's good to pick a big niche where customers buy over and over again, but, most of the people I see who struggle, well, I agree with Frank... Just sell!! Too many waste years fiddling around and spinning their wheels instead of just f###ing selling something.

And, Wayyy too many complain about sales attempts... And marketing techniques... Which is hilarious to me. It really is funny. For example, we have a forum loaded here with marketers right? How many complain about up sells? It's hilarious. Like, Im laughing right now. <-- see that smiley face, that's me laughing.

Or, want to know what's even funnier? How people will defend their stance on being anti-up sells. That's even funnier. They really try to explain it all proper and sophisticated, like they are holy and righteous, and good saint people because... Oh no... I'll never, ever, never sell people upsells. I'll never have videos without controls no matter if it works or not... And so on. Freaking hilarious.

Now I have a headache. I laughed too hard.

I'm not really into the whole "following a big product marketing guru" or anything.

But I can say that my favorite person online would have to be Jason Fried and Matt Cutts.

I really love listening to them both and don't mind playing their videos in the background while I work all day.

Jason Fried has an amazing way of thinking outside of the box (probably some help from David H.), so I consider him my "Mentor" in a way that's different from your regular mentor.

I expected more 'names' to be offered in this thread. Is this people being cagey or a comment on the quality of results from the coaching out there?

Having said that I'm not going to offer any names myself. Firstly because I'm soooo slow at implementing that I've yet to turn any coaching into impressive results (another reason for the lack of names here?) and also because some of my best mentors have been my successful competitors. They can guide you a lot if you know what to look for.

There were only about 11 responses, 3 of which were from the same person. When it comes down to it, there are tons of great people to learn from in this industry, but everyone is different.

Some people like to be taught in a manner where it's formal, some like to be taught in a fun way, some wish to just learn the information and implement it. I'm a fan of Jason Fried because he's about taking action and actually doing something.

I don't think you need a coach to be successful, I think you just need the right mentality.. and sometimes you have to build that up.

I started with a low self esteem, now I'm super pumped and excited every day. But I wouldn't be that way if I didn't take action.

You want names? Ok, I've got names for you:

          1. Ali Brown (AliBrown.com)
          2. Sheri McConnell (SmartWomenInstitute.com)
          3. Carrie Wilkerson (Barefoot-Executive.com)
          4. Joan Stewart (PublicityHound.com)

There might be 1 or 2 others. But that's it! I might buy a random product here or there from someone else, but for the most part, I don't listen to ANYBODY else. I found mentors that resonate with me and have results to back up their teaching. And I've spent well over $1,000 with each of them.

Sheri McConnell (who founded and ran the National Association of Women Writers for 10 years) was my mentor all of last year. I spent $3,000 for her coaching program last year (a year-long program) and it was well worth the investment! She is phenomenal!

ALL of these women are experts in their field and hugely successful. They've also been around a long time.

My advice is to pick one or two mentors, then put your blinders on to everything/everyone else and FOCUS:

          F -- Follow
          O -- One
          C -- Course
          U -- Until
          S -- Successful

Do what they tell you to do. ALL of it, not just part of what they tell you to do. IMPLEMENT!

          Hope that helps!

I think you can't learn how not to fail. From my experience, you can learn to fail, to accept it, to look at the failures, analyze the mistake, and learn how to work around to making it better and ultimately getting out of failure.

maybe that's what brought me the success I have today

          Exactly dude.

Just maintain that lifestyle and you'll go far. A failure isn't terrible, but make sure you aren't failing nonstop. Success is inevitable, if you push yourself.

          Very true indeed!

Also, follow the marketing ideas of marketers you admire but don't know. For example,

Wacky Central - Best Priced Internet Marketing Resources - The Best For Less

They write *brilliantly*! I've been so inspired by reading their messages and have tried to implement their ideas meself.

It's taking a looong time, mind you, but then again...

Justin, I just watched the video of Jason Fried you linked to - he's noteworthy.

I've recently begun a coaching program, am just getting involved with mentors. The jury is still out. I won't hesitate to take advantage of the money-back guarantee, should a there be a lack of integrity or value for dollars spent, or should there be a presence of excessive regurgitation.

I'm basically upbeat, and I've said this before - I prefer to be cautiously optimistic. There's a lot of disingenuous behavior out there.

Jason Fried appears to be pretty congruent, walks his talk. Thank you for the introduction.

I have a few, and it's tough to say who is the best..

As far as those that I speak directly to...

    KJ

Taught me the value of having a process to everything. Also, he taught me that content is very valuable (this advice was actually given before Panda), so to focus on having the best and quickest ways to create quality content. Another piece of advice was to own as many of the assets that I use as possible, as this helps you control things. He slaps me across the head when I start just going each and every direction instead of laying out a process and treating everything as a well-planned business.

    Danielle Schaeffer

Taught me about having the correct funnels set up. She speaks with me every week and lets me in on the newest tips and tricks for things. She's also a stickler for making sure that you have a process set for things. So she keeps me on course and up to date.
