How to change back to my original setting for 'unzipping' my ZIP files?

Ok... HELP!!!

Careless and silly of me. I was clearing my desktop when i happen to read the 'Properties' of 1 of a 'ZIP' file on my desktop. Silly me, I accidentally click on 'Change' for the 'Opens With:' section... and changed it to 'MS Word.' And now I can't open all my zip files.

What should I be doing? I'm using a normal notebook that has windows vista. :confused:

Really hope some could help me.

Hi Shawn,

Right click on the zip file and choose the option "Open With". Select the application BUT before you click 'ok', look at the bottom of the pop up screen and tick the box that says 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.

Thanks Diana for your time. I know that step. But what is the program/application to select? I only see Adobe reader, MS Word, IE, and other MS programs which are not for extracting ZIP files?

Hi Shawn,

I see your problem. With Vista, my zip files open with Windows Explorer but there is no option to select that when you choose the application. The only solution I can suggest is to download a software package called WinRAR. You can google it. Once you have installed it, just select WinRAR as the application.

Hi Di,

No probs. Its nice of you to offer some advise though. Anyways, I've tried downloading Winzip, but had some error almost 80% of downloading it. Don't know what is wrong with my notebook. Anyways, I'll try winrar. I also stumbled online on people with the same problem.
