How long do you take to create your product?

Referring to the question above, how long does it take you to create your solid product along with the graphics, site, autoresponder and etc? My product is 60- 80 pages long with maybe 3000+ words in the sales page with high keyword density relating to my keyword and 3 ezine letters in my autoresponder along with additional offers that I have yet to determine. I estimate that I might be taking less than a month or two (taking my sweet time with maybe an average an hour or two spent a day) to complete my product. How about you?

By the way, just a random question:
Let say I only set a 7 day long autoresponder messages but my subscriber has subscribed for 14 days already. So what if I added one autoresponder message at the in between the 7 and 14 day, like say the 8th day, will he receive that message?

    Hey ,

I know how difficult it is to create your own product , and creating the mini site , the graphics ..... so I try to use ready made products , that I can sell PLR , or other products like platinumresellerrights . it saves me time , and I concentrate on driving traffic to my website , and building my list

Reselling PLR is very easy and only takes less than a day full time, I done it before but it wasn't serious, it earned me only 25$ and thats within three days of no SEO or whatever traffic tactic so eventually I just took it down since exam was coming by soon and I really wanted to do something I was more passionate about, so I started my own product.

I agree with andy that it takes very long to check for errors and editing is definitely the hardest part, don't worry I am in your shoes but it is definitely going to pay off

Months. I am working on a method of getting it done faster. My major issue is lack of focus and a general insistence on linear processes. I know how to fix it, I just need to do what needs to be done.

CDarklock, I agree. An internet marketing guru from a book once said, if you were to do your work for 8 hours, you might only be spending 4 hours doing your work since the other 4 hours is wasted with youtube, facebook and etc. I totally agree, I am guilty of this! The best way he said was to disconnect your internet connection and only use it when needed to reduce your tempation and keep your focus straight. Eventually my product will be done! Good luck on yours

Man it is taking me weeks to get my first product ready. My main concern is about bringing the quality. I see too many put together products that look like they were made in an hour and I worry about my rep a lot.

One easier method is to get a partner. Most of the websites I own have partners. We split the work 50/50. With that being said, it only takes about 2 weeks to get everything up and running. I'm a firm believer in partnering, there's enough money for everyone if that's what you're worried about...The money will come, they key is to get the information out their so it could help someone.

Indeed partnering is awesome but it both has to be on the same road, like if you were to make a book about tennis, both of you should have experience in it and know what to talk about.

I can see many of you are taking at least a month to finish it, thats great because I thought I was the only one.

blillard, I agree with you on the crappy looks of WSO that seem like its put together in an hour. I am trying to give my customers some respect as to what they should be receiving by pilling up my in a informative and neat manner. Some WSO are just for the money and not for the value.

Typical is 30-45 days from idea/concept to launch and initial sales.

In a few cases, we have launched in just 1-week (a collaborative project, a short report, or recorded teleseminar series for example) where we are marketing to an existing list.

We also market membership sites where product creation doesn't really end - but again you can generate enough quality content in a few weeks to get it launched, and then keep adding over time.

        Cheers,

I just completed a project that has taken me 4 months to write.
It is such a relief to me, that I wander around the house annoying my wife because I don't have "My book to write".

I am just awaiting a friend to check and proof read and I'm good to go.

            Man I hope it sells!!!

Hey James - I have experienced this too...but what I found when I ventured into creating and sellnig products more than 10-years ago is that your market will constantly evolve which means your opportunity to update your products, make them better, more relevant or expand them is never-ending.

What I do now when I enter markets is place a deadline on getting the first "version" of the product out.

Then, keep a folder for updates where I answer customer questions (that content eventually gets added), get feedback from partners or affiliates, incorporate experience from direct consultation, log any new ideas I have, etc...

In the case of my first ebook - it is now on Edition 10 (roughly one update each year), other ebooks I update more frequently and still another market demanded ongoing assistance so I setup a membership site to provide weekly help and updates.

Most important thing is to get that first product out there and then look for opportunties to help your market while you get paid for it.

This is exactly what I do now, since it was taking me 4+ weeks to build one product...and that was shortened from what some other products took me!

I like the idea of getting the "First Edition" or Version out there now and then you will get feedback which can be very helpful in adding to it.

One thing people do a lot of is try to make it perfect, Not gonna happen, no perfect product exists, you could release it and get feedback to improve it and re release a v2 of it etc, As long as the product is solid get it out otherwise, it just will continue to get bigger and bigger but your bank account gets smaller and smaller

    Brandon Huang,

I have 2 products I have created my Electric Drill Profits ebook which took me about a month from start to finish to complete and my Pizza Card Profits ebook which has been a very hot seller for me took me about 3 months from start to finish to complete.

Now, I'm working on my 3rd product which will be a WSO and I have already been working on it for over a month and don't see me being done with it for at least another 2-3 weeks, so over all I average about 2 months for each product I create.

    All the best,

I created a $4,500 6 week coaching class in under 2 weeks that sells out routinely, I have created products in under an hour that have made $15,000 in it's first week.

I have also worked 2 months on a product that didn't make a dime. So I would say knock them out as fast as you possibly can without sacrificing quality.

      Absolutely.

Ive put products and sites together in less than 5 hours that have resulted in $200 sales. Others have taken a lot longer.

Im currently working on a training course, which Ive been at for 3 months.

        Impossible?

I had a friend just a couple weeks ago pull in over $10k from a product he hadn't even created yet with a seven-minute sales video.

I have another friend who sells out four coaching classes a year to the tune of $30k each time.

        It's far from impossible.

True, he doesn't substantiate his claim, but why do you care?

          Hi CD

I understand what you are saying but.... I think our definition of a product is different. If I sell a product before it is produced then it is not a product. A coaching program is not a product.

I think the OP was talking about a product in terms of a completed item of work, ready for sale and distribution.

I just do not think that a decent body of work can be produced and ready for sale in a matter of hours. It can't be done.

Typically takes me about 40 hours of work -- so spread out it usually takes me about a month and most of the time I at least get a return on my time.

However it's far too long and holding me back from getting more products out there. It's surprised me to see how many people take an equally long time (or longer) given the talk about 4 hour products etc on the forum -- it's obviously not the norm.

I'm definitely (and desperately) keen to shorten the time between start and finish -- and I don't think there is a direct correlation between time and quality -- the law of diminishing returns kicks in way too soon.

Al - think the difference may be product creation versus the process of bringing a complete product to market.

I have created products in 4-6 hours of work - basically a presentation for a paid webinar that is simultaneously recorded and viola, you have two products (a paid webinar and a packaged set of mp4's ready to launch as a video training product)

However, the work required for someone brand new to uncover the market, pull out the questions with the most desire (highest demand), build momentum toward your product (aka traffic), put togeher the content and then put everything in place to sell (sales letter, sales funnel) as well as payment links, and follow up systems - that's where the 30-40 hours comes in.

The good news is that once you have launched, the hours for promotion go down over time (as you get listed in the SERP's, recruit affiliates, gain a following, etc...)

      Jeff

I have created products of value in as little as 4-6 hours. I have also created products that were above par but not my best in 2 months.

The key is what you have to offer, how much you know in terms of value and how you can communicate that to people in a way they will understand.

My take on it is this...

Don't spend a minute on product creation until all the market research indicates that it'll be a good idea to create a product in the first place.

Once you've got your market research down, and all signs point to YES, product creation shouldn't take more than 10 days with multiple actions occuring at the same time.

It could roll out like this:

Day 1 to 5 - Autoresponder sequence + squeeze page + main salesletter page design

Day 5 to 8 - Salesletter complete + traffic generation systems created

Day 8 to 10 - Backend sales funnel + testing out the system

I mean, sure, you have some emails and a web site and some traffic, but I don't see anything people would buy.

I am not sure if all of you who take a month or two to finish your product, really do it full time or just take your sweet time (like me) to finish it. I am sure my product can be finished within 2 months of sweet time but if I were to go full time, guaranteed less than a month.

      Quick tip here:
In my opinion, taking your sweet time might be able to increase your product quality since I take my sweet time to think a long time and jot down relevant ideas compared to rushing and pushing your mind to think within a brief period of time. The only reason why I would ever rush is whenever I need cash fast but as of now I am depending on other sources for money.

I did pretty much everything myself, graphics, sales copy etc.

I think I only need to do one graphic at the moment, there are plenty website to help you get the graphic done easily or you could just get adobe photoshop. I think PLR's are overrated and I prefer getting the content original and high in quality. Like I once said "you are the guru, don't expect others to teach them for you" unless you know their credibility in that niche then it's fine.

This is a question that requires a multipart answer.

Firstly it depends on the product and market being targeted.
For instance, If I want to target offline marketer's who use or have need of tools, Then I would want to develop a software, software development takes time, depending on the complexity of the project and quality of the programmer, you could go from 2 weeks to years, it as I said depends on the product and purpose it suits the marketplace.

If you want to go for an info product, it can take a day up to a few months, again depending on the amount of info needed and reasearch required before devlopment begins, I can bang out a product in a day with a site, however, that product will not be as good as it can be. Rushing development only leads to issues so it is best not to try and bang it off in a day.

You could go a very easy route and bang a prdct off in an hr, interview someone. however. interview products are so common now it isn't always a great way to get er done, but it is one way. Really if you were to do an interview, you would make sure the market has a desire for the knowledge that can be supplised, I just did an interview product with Andy Fletcher and it flopped big time so be ready for that as well.

What it comes down to without going through a whole course here, is simple. find a demand and fill the demand. Product creation can be done quickly but the result will also show it was quickly done. Not always, but most of the time which then screams desperation and not solution, but I digress.

The main thing when considering any produict for development is the end user's experience with the product, a "vision" if you will as to why you are creating it, what they will get out of it, and it is something you can be proud to put your name on.

Having said this stuff, the devlopment time depends on the product and complexity of the project required to fill the demand.

      Cheers
