Reading materials to help a total noob...

I am helping a friend (who is going back to her country) in getting her to make money online.

To help out, she needs to understand the basics of Internet Marketing, and also on other "technical" topics like hosting.

Do you have any recommendations?

Please don't suggest War room, join this forum or "buy this".

So far I think SEO Made Easy by Brad Callen is one good material.

    Hi Joseph,

I got started when my friend introduced me to Google Sniper. Instead of trying to explain what internet marketing is, which causes people to think its a scam, why not explain how one particular method works?

I did not know that Google Sniper was internet marketing but it showed to me how i can create niche sites and explained how i could compete with the top sites and get some traffic in and build a site from scratch. It does not touch on the bigger topics like SEO, List building etc but its good to get a beginner to see the light first before going deeper.

    hope it helps

    Hi Joseph,

You have a lot of experience yourself- Chances are having you beside him/her would be good enough reference point to kick things off. :-)

That said, obviously the first thing to do is to know which "method" you want to focus on, as they can't be going on to do everything right? In that case, you mentioned SEO in the thread - so I guess you would prefer to start from that point. From there, which path is to be taken i.e as an affiliate or as product creator, or as a blogger?

BTW, how do we suppose to recommend stuff if you don't want us to recommend any "buy now" products? :-)

I would love to, just that sometimes what is "basic" to me may not be basic to her.

I thought that it's OK to give her a basic, ground level understanding first but then, how basic is basic? Where would be the starting point? That's the puzzling portion for me.

Sometimes you can have so much experience that you don't know where to start and I think that's my issue.

      ---EDIT---
OK, to be precise, I think I can look at 2 main things: SEO and basic understanding of web hosting. I can get the materials on SEO, how about web hosting?

when I first started out- I relied on HG video tutorials on how to go about with my hosting account- and I did pretty fine. That, and the regular talk on the Live Help soon after that when it was made available.

That should be OK too i guess :-)

I personally started off with backlink battleplan by Shane Melaugh. Very informative course! Walks you through keyword research, getting a site done, on page SEO and off page SEO. No fluff just good quality information especially for newbies!

I really like Affilorama. It covers a lot of topics and is free. I assign VAs to spend time at the site to familiarize themselves with an IM overview.

I think at this stage you can Google anything and get basic advice. This is how I started out. Head over to Google or Youtube and type in "How to buy a domain name?" or "How to set up hosting?" and you will get a ton of info for free.

    Joseph,

Ed Dale has a fantastic program that is free called "The Challenge". You can find it here: The Challenge. It also has a stunning free ebook that covers all the basics.

I would definitely recommend it. Started reading it last night.

      Another vote for the challenge.

You can find techy stuff (web hosting, setting up wp, etc..) through youtube as well.

First explain her marketing terms with simple examples.. i mean she must understand the terms you are talking or explaining her then what are the different ways of online marketing.

Once explained above topics then tell her about basic requirements or tools of online marketing like a website, autoresponder account, then she must be active on social media networking sites and why that is important.

After telling all above points you can start explaining her web development & SEO things.

I think above points are basic which every newbie must know before entering in IM.. after that you can move ahead for explaining about how to select & promote things online and make money.

Why wouldn't we suggest those? That's the best place to start!

You KNEW the answer before you asked...

Why don't you just show her what YOU do?

Before your friend starts to think about making money, ask her about what she intends to do to make money otherwise don't even start! Like maybe blogging, freelance, affiliate or selling her own product. Introduce her to these few things, after that just go to the WF make money online free ebook section and download something that has free relevant information or grab some ezine online related to the money making method. That should be the basis of what you should do.

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

    2 things:

1.) Anything that Paul Meyer who is the Grand PooBah, and 2nd in command of this Forum - he writes succinct and useful stuff to get you started and get you going.

2.) There is a search service called "Brupt" (Search .DOC .PPT .XLS .PDF) that will allow you to search for PDF's exclusively (as well as other formats) that is really good about finding general as well as specific internet marketing ebooks. Just do a few searches with that and you will have more reading material than you know what to do with.

Then, get your Warrior Membership and troll through a few of the hundreds of free offers and ebooks there.

Finally... Stop reading, pick something, and do it.

I guess that is more than 2 things, but you should be able to get out of noob stage fairly quick...

Is SEO Made Easy still relevant? The SEO industry is constantly changing. What worked yesterday may get you banned from google today.

Imagine going to a college or university and telling them, "I want to make money, which classes should I take? Do you have any free reports to get my career of the ground? I want to start today!"

Send your friend to resellitforprofit.com, or money2k.com (neither are my sites)

She's going to have to spend a lot of her time trying to get a grasp on "this internet marketing thing" if she isn't going to spend money to have the information presented in an organized, filtered and focused package.
