Why Twitter users don't buy Clickbank Products

Hey there,

Don't know if this has been your experience but I get to promote some Clickbank products on Twitter and generally the conversion is so poor. I used the old yahoo pipe method and some really targeted keyword campaigns. This has produced better results on Amazon but Twitter has also been like ... baaaaaaaaa

Have you had such an experience before?

Direct linking to Clickbank products (if this is indeed what you are doing) does not work very well IMO.

The key to Twitter is building a reputation or authority in a niche and funneling people through to top quality content while collecting names and emails and building a list.

THEN you can start marketing to them - this has always worked better for me...

People don't want to be sold on Twitter. They want conversation, an ego stroke, and information that's relevant to them. Give them that.. THEN sell them

Great advice. I agree. People don't go to Twitter to buy things, they go for information and content, maybe to learn something they didn't already know.

      Right on Devon...

Believe it or not, Twitter is actually a more sophisticated beast....as soon as they see that junk squeeze page crap, they move on.

I'm still stumped at who or what squeeze pages work on....I've always been a "relate to the customer and build a relationship" kind of guy.

It's hard to target the right kind of people with twitter. would require you to find out who they are following or build a decent enough following to your twitter page that has info about your product.

I hope you are selling relevant or big niches, like movie memberships or something related to the reason why your followers follow you. If they follow you because you tweet about dating tips, then one of the few things you should promote is dating products and not something off topic like tennis ebooks.

Except for the IMers trying to exploit the Twitter traffic, most are there to Tweet and read Tweets rather than to shop. They're the the IM type of crowd that would buy IM products ... they are not targeted. With all the spammers and bots, it would be very difficult to develop a following of actual targeted "people."

It will be - very poor, I'd expect.

However you look at it, selling ClickBank (and similar informational) products is all about three main things ...

    (i) You have to select the products wisely (obviously enough, without getting this part right, it doesn't much matter what else you do);

    (ii) You have to pre-sell effectively to well-targeted traffic;

(iii) You have to build a list and form relationships with the people on it, so that they'll buy on the strength of your recommendation. Without doing this, your conversion-rate won't be worth talking about.

These three things just aren't optional: you really do need to do all three of them. There's a huge turnover of affiliate marketers trying other ways and not being successful. The above overview - simplistic and superficial though it is - is representative of those who make a living from it, however we choose to attract our traffic.

I can see what you suggest working to some extent for Amazon, but this isn't much of a way to market ClickBank products, I'm afraid.

Are you sending your twitter followers to a direct sales page? If that is the case then YES your conversion rate will be zero to non...

In my experience with using social media to promote products - you must first build a relationship with your potential prospects.

One thing I learned very quickly is people on soical medias are there for one reason to be SOCIAL - to meet, greet, and talk with new and old friends. Most of them aren't there to buy a product or service, but the way to convert them is to send them to a a squeeze page instead, have them opt-in and offer them a free gift such as an eReport or eBook.

Once you have them on your list you can begin to build a relationship and from there you can market your clickbank products.

    Hope this helps...

I've actually heard the opposite, that Twitter is a great place for sales because unlike Facebook, it doesn't have so many bells and whistles to keep you engulfed in there.

I'm about to starting really building up my Twitter following (a glorified mailing list) and see what happens. The pattern I usually see is the more followers you have, the better. And since it is social media, correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't the primary goal be to build a conversation first?

I know when someone automatically sends me a link (someone I don't know) to something asking me to buy it, I scoff at it and usually block the person if we are not Twitter "friends" because I don't want to be spammed.

However, in saying all of that, I am going to try "Tweet Attacks", but primarily use it to build a conversation and point people to my Youtube videos. We'll see how that goes.

I actually managed to make a few sales to Twitter users by direct linking to my product's landing page. Nothing to write home about, but a couple of extra bucks is always nice. I wonder what kind of results I would see if I followed the advice here and sent them to a pre-sale or squeeze page instead. Now you've got me thinking...

A while back I tried doing exactly this, and to be honest with you - sending twitter followers to clickbank offers doesn't work. When I look back what I did to try and make a commission is laughable...so just gain some targeted and interested followers, interact with them (reply, retweet etc) and gain trust and loyalty. In my opinion you are best of sending them to a landing page because then you have the possibility of turning them into a subscirber, building more of a relationship (if you have a good follow up sequence) and them turning into repeat, loyal customers.

    Thanks!

Just my two cents but in my experience social media traffic is overrated anyway. People brag about big lists of followers, but it's just not the same thing as having a responsive email list or a proven buyers list.

Twitter is useful for about 400 celebrities and 400 large organizations. Everyone else is just adding noise to an airport runway. As usual sbucciarel and Devon Brown are correct.

Twitter(ers?) don't want to be sold... sorta like facebook. They want you to make sweet sweet digital love to them.

If you have your own product check out sponsoredtweets, but expect to throw down some coin to get a tweet from a person that's worth it.

But if you got the cash this can be a very very great opportunity.

Sponsored Tweets are opened to all advertisers now? Everytime I've gone on there, there was a message saying to submit your name and info and they will get back to you. Am I missing something?

It's not that it is BAD, it's just that it is fickle.

I have all my sites hitting twitter hard for quality traffic, and I get it and I make money. You just have to know what you are doing

Twitter traffic is pretty much made of people who like to "conversate" about a particular topic, and not generally in the mood to buy. I used to test Twitter, but I got bad results too, and have long put them aside as a reliable sales generating method.

I use twitter more now to get to know other people, get JV partners, get some discussion going and the likes- no more selling there.

I agree with most of the replies here. For the most part Twitter traffic is hard to convert. I have not tried to sell Clickbank stuff to my followers, and would imagine it would not work well. I see some Twitter accounts that only promote Amazon products, targeted to their niche. I am curious if that works for them. I kind of doubt that it works very well.

What I do is have all my blogs auto update all my twitter accounts to get adsense clicks. Kind of a shotgun approach, but my adsense earnings do go up with each new 1,000 followers I get.

I will experiment with squeeze pages and see how that works out on Twitter also. Kind of curious now.

I also agree with the general replies here. I've never really approve of directly linking ClickBank products in Twitter feeds, as over time this will generally annoy your followers and do more harm than good. If you're reviewing a ClickBank product on your blog or website, link to the content of your review or post instead.

You definitely need to first develop trust and credibilty before anybody starts buying your products on twitter. Initially when you first follow people they actually look at you as spam. You need to be able to change their mentality and prove to them that you are not. Then you need to be able to prove that your product can actually help them. It could take a little bit of time but trust me it will be worth it in the long run.
