Why give away PLR content?

Most PLR content is of inferior value and yet many marketers use it as a Freebie to build their list.

I don't understand the logic in that.

How do you build a list of loyal subscribers by giving them something of inferior value?

    Hi,

Before I agree with you, I must mention that PLR can still be used successfully if you take the time to rewrite and make it yours.

On the other hand, people give it away, because it's easy to acquire, rather than putting in the time to create something truly unique and valuable to give away.

Ahhhhh, you're assuming that most IMer's are trying to build a list of loyal followers.

Unfortunately there's a disturbing amount of internet marketers out there that are only trying to build a list of as many opportunity seekers as they can find and the spam the H E double hockey sticks out of them.

I believe you have the better, more ethical, more fulfilling long term approach.

Not only is it inferior quality it has probably been downloaded by every Tom, Dick and Harry and spread all over the internet. Probably the best way to use PLR is to just use it as a basis for your own work and make sure it is fresh and up to the minute once you have finished with it.

I don't give it away. But I don't agree that most of it is crap. I buy a lot of plr to rewrite and the plr I buy is great quality. It really cuts my writing time down to work from well written plr.

I've never given away PLR. I write my own eBooks and articles.

The PLR I've gotten for free from others have been of a very low quality, that's for sure.

    Why some people do it?

My guess is that it's because it's easy, doesn't cost them any effort, and they think it will work.

What they should have done differently? Like Suzanne just above this post says: rewrite the plr or turn it into videos or something like that. Transform it. Make it your own.

You should look at PLR as research done for you, preferably written in such a way that it's easy to understand, and easy to transform. Maybe you can even re-use bigger parts of it.

But I wouldn't recommend just giving it away for free in the form you got it. Add your slant to it.

PLR is not always low quality. Like anything else out there, you will find both good and bad. I have downloaded some pretty good articles, it just all depends.

You have to treat PLR like a 1st draft, go through it and make it your own. A PLR product can provide a skeleton for you to work from and 'upgrade it' if you like and make creating your freebie or paid product a lot faster.

Not all of it is inferior, but I do agree that a lot of marketers give away the inferior stuff.

That being said, PLR should never be used as is any way, and anyone who is either giving away or using poor quality PLR will find out that this is a quick way to ruin your reputation online.

It doesn't take that much effort to improve PLR content and the rewards are so
    much greater.

    Really?

Where do you by your PLR materials?

I don't purchase substandard PLR materials. I purchase what I need from
    Warriors I know and trust.

To group all marketers into one is what I call shallow thinking on your part.

You get what you pay for only if you know where you are getting what you
    want/need from.

Now, To answer you original question, I give it away to build my list or to
give my customers something related as a bonus to their purchase.

To qualify the above, I don't buy rehashed plr's to use for this purpose.
I normally create or have it created and give the PLR away with PLR rights
for the customer to use anyway they need.

    Hope that Helps,
    Have a Great Day!

I think marketers have demanded better PLR and products like the one Tiffany Dow teaches helps create better PLR marketers. Quality PLR is a USP. If you still buy crap PLR that's your fault. Plenty of high quality stuff out there. I hope this helps

Not all PLR is garbage but sometimes you need to sort through the garbage to get to the good stuff...especially if there is a lot of PLR for that industry. Also, as I believe was mentioned, you can use it as a starting point and edit it to make it better, as long as the author allows that. I've given away some pretty cool PLR items but had to sift through a bunch of crud to find them!

You should always buy PLR for someone you can trust. PLR can be awesome or it can be crap as you say. There are so many reasons to use PLR and doing so can save you time and money.

Don't get left in the cold by not using PLR. You can re-write the PLR or use it the way it is. There are many other uses other than list building.

Thank you all for your comments. I was careful in labeling 'most' not 'all' PLR content as inferior. I am sure there is good PLR out there as many of you have pointed out, but I haven't come across any that was given to me as a bonus for joining a list.

You may argue that you get what you pay for and I shouldn't expect anything good for free but I see it as me giving the marketer an opportunity to impress me, to win my trust, and when I receive crap content, it has complete opposite effect.

Not everyone does that and for good reasons. Building a quality list takes time and hard work, now imagine having 10 quality people on your list and 100 other useless ones that haven't got a clue why they joined the list in the first place. Then one day you decide to start giving away free PLR content and lose those 10 good people who would have bought stuff from you.

Making a list that buy from you is not an easy work, it takes a lot of time and sometimes even money. So no point losing it with PLR content. Any marketer trying to do it will lose his loyal subscribers... this is one of those things that i learnt on the internet, "be cheap - stay cheap" ... only with quality content you can build a loyal and quality list that will purchase your offers.

I understand what you are saying. I think the list you are on picked some bad PLR that they got for free ETC. Not that you have to buy anything but if you go to my PLR store OR many of them out there - you might see samples of the PLR you can buy etc.

The problem as I see it can be that someone NEW to IM, who is looking to build a list goes and grabs some 'lesser value' PLR and gives it away for free. YEP, that's crap...lol
That being said there is still some great PLR out there and it can be used in so many ways.

Interesting debate - I agree that the best way to use PLR is as research. If an idea happens to jump out at you as interesting, you may then want to develop the idea into your own webpage, ebook or video. But, as has been said, it's finding the quality stuff that can take the time - why not just look here on the WF instead?! Lots of good stuff right here!

WOW! What's with all the negativity in this thread?? Sure, there is alot of PLR garbage out there - but there's also alot of garbage out there that was written as custom content, too. Trust me, there are tons of marketers that are offering content that's of an inferior value, even though the content was written just for them.

(Quality) PLR can be a great tool. And, yes, the good stuff is good enough to be given away (either to your email list, or as a downloadable report) as-is. Finding a quality PLR source is alot like finding a good writer... You have to look carefully, and you'll probably find alot of junk before you find a good one - but they are out there.

    Laziness.

Everyone is lazy, but some take it to the extreme.

Me, I'm just a little bit lazy. So I do use PLR as a starting point for my opt-in bribes, but I do make extensive changes to it.

Basically at the end of it you wouldn't know it was PLR in the first place.

It's kinda like that story about the "pebble soup".

PLR can be a good start for building your list , but of course after you rewrite it and make it your own , and also you can adjust design of the PLR , it also saves a lot of time in finding content.
