Using Groupon for Online Marketing

I did a search for this idea and nothing came up but here it is.

Tonight I have been doing research for a startup I am working on and came across this offer for a Online Yoga Course.
MyYogaOnline.com Deal of the Day | Groupon Victoria

Is there anything stopping Internet Marketers like ourselves from offering our products or services through Groupon and other daily share sites? I have tried to go through Groupon's terms but don't see anything listed about selling anything online.

The reason I ask is for two reasons.

Exposure

I am starting up a Golf Holiday Travel business where I go on the tours and offer Golf lessons with my clients. This business is being completely boot strapped and I am slowly building things up but my site isn't getting the traffic I had hoped for.

Yes I have an SEO team working for me, am blogging consistently and connecting with other sites and bloggers in my industry. All this stuff is time consuming and I am looking at outsourcing most of the little stuff out but with a limited budget right now it's tough.

Tonight I have been on my local Groupon site doing research for another startup and I came across a Golf related Groupon which didn't get enough people so it "failed". Here is the thing though, it failed to generate the business any customers but he got some much needed exposure out of the offer.

Online Golf Coaching

The other day I had an idea for a online golf coaching program that would last an entire year. I have been thinking about ways of gaining some exposure to sell this program. Stuff like contacting bloggers in my niche and also looking at affiliate marketing sites but this takes time which is scarce in my world right now.

So being in the same boat as the Golf Groupon business I mentioned and needing some exposure for my business, website and services, what if I were to setup a Groupon for my online Golf Coaching program?

Setting the price would be key as I would be giving a discount already then on top of that 50% to Groupon but why not bump the "value" or original price of this offer up to cover the costs of the Groupon share?

The way I look at this is that it can't fail (if deal shares site allow online services) because I would be levering the reach of the deal share site for exposure and some possible clients. If it fails, at least some targeted visitors (only golfers would even peak at the offer) have been to my site and I could gain some followers. If it succeeds than I have money in my pocket.

Am I complete out to lunch and off base with this?

Cheers
Jordan

I think you would be better of partnering with a physical local business...

And then using your product / online service as the "included bonus"

Take some time to contact previous local business owners that participated in a deal of a day site.

    -----

Groupon and Living Social both do repeat businesses with local businesses.

But they are scheduled out many months in advance and change deals depending on season and demand.

Even if Groupon or LivingSocial don't pick your business to participate you can still

joint venture and market to other local business owners lists as a "free" or "discounted"

    upsell / promotion.

    Hope that helps you.

    Best of luck

I was wondering the same thing as well. I wonder how many months in advance the deals are created.
