Hi All,

As you can see above I have been working hard for 6months, I have followed many different types of advice (first fault I know) all of which have failed, the last one I worked on was uploading videos to you tube.

I am desperate to make this work as I need a source of Income as I can see me being made redundant and at present work is scarce.

I am a sucker for seeing a flashing banner and thinking this must work only to find it doesnt. (second fault) I am fully aware of what I want but I am not convinced that it will work, I understand the concepts behind the ideas but was wondering if someone could suggest a prodect or service I could or should be using to help me along the way.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks All

    Hi,

What have you done so far apart from the videos?

Don't get down hearted but, unless you hit a very good niche and fast then, it's a tough environment at the moment..

It takes time and you need to take the knocks ...

First of all, it's important that you change your perception of the last 6 months. You haven't experienced 6 months of failure, you have instead been through 6 months of learning.

The experiences of the past 6 months will be valuable to you in the future.

If I can give you one valuable advice it is to ignore those flashing banners. I know it's hard (very hard), but it's important that you don't change direction every few days. Doing something once (and failing) doesn't mean it doesn't work.

      I like that...
Don't see your past 6 months as a failure, but learning new things. Maybe you should take one step at a time. follow I method at a time and follow it to the end to see that you succeed. It told me almost 3 years before I made my first sales online, and I can tell you it's as hard as you may think. You should NEVER give up.

    Gt91,
It looks like you jumped around a lot and gone after the next shiny thing. This is something many on here suffered from to begin with. It's better to dedicate yourself to one thing and really work it. My personal view is that the one thing should be list building.

Congratulations - only 6 months of failure - that's small compared to most people. You're well ahead of the curve if you make it work in less time than that.

If you're beating yourself up thinking you took too long - that's just a problem with your expectations rather than your experience.

Keep working at it - things don't come quick or easy when you're starting out.

Most offline businesses don't make a profit for at least 18 months.

It seems that you are not focusing your effort into following one system at a time. You will not get any results if you keep jumping from one system to another system.

Once you have decided to follow one proven system, you will want to make sure that you focus all your time and effort into doing the required. You should be ignoring all the other systems which will distract you.

    Hope this is useful

You need to stop following "methods" and focus on making a plan for an online business. Decide what you want to do and build one plan around that. Stop jumping from one thing to the next without any thought to anything except making a buck. There are a lot of different ways to make money online, but throwing spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks, isn't the best way.

When you're desperate, you jump around hoping to find that "Get rich quick" solution, which there isn't any... and you've realized that after these past 6 months...

Most systems work... remember that! MOST systems work, it's just the person that bought the system doesn't WORK! So focus on 1 system, work it fully, and make it happen. Keep focused on that 1 system and don't jump around to this and that, to CPA, to clickbank, to uploading videos on youtube, to twitter, etc... you're gonna spread yourself to thin that way.

first of all you admit two counts of fault - moving from one thing to the other, and always asking for help, getting suckered into new stuff - and this thread is EXACTLY THE SAME THING!

forget other people. forget what you think you know. start again, produce a website which you genuinely believe could be helpful to others... stop thinking about making money and you might make some.

You need to decide what it is you want to do and just focus on that and nothing else until you succeed. I'm talking laser-like focus. If you keep jumping for shiny object to shiny object you are never going to get ahead. Focus.

very true...take something that you're passionate about and have knowledge about and put that information and/or service in front of people that want or need this information. you need to figure out how to monetize your passions without selling your soul to gurus.

Couldn't agree more. I failed for a hell of a lot longer than you before I realized that there wasn't a service, product, or tool in existence that was going to help me.

I upload a lot of videos to you tube and get a lot of traffic. However, it does not convert very well. Try instead to create more key words and phrases to get top rank in the main search engines. Found that to be a much better tactic in generating sales and making money.

I'm a firm believer that the best place to start is in an area where you have real expertise and can deliver real value in. That means not just blindly following some "paint by numbers" formula but doing some serious business thinking.

What are your skills? Experiences? What have people paid you to do in the past?

What are the needs within a relevant marketplace? How can you serve those people and fulfill those needs?

These are some of the questions that will help you get much further than just chasing the next new "shiny object".

did you not get leads at all or have leads (how many anyway?) but did not convert to income?

If you havent generated leads at all, then listen to hebsgaard - there must be something really wrong, learn what NOT to do hereon.

If you're getting enough leads but not converting into sales/income, might it be that you are not targetting the right niche in the first place?

    Gt91,
I understand your situation. It also took me awhile to start earning money online. Take a break for a while but keep it up.

If you're really desperate for a source of income, I suggest that aside from promoting products online, you also offer services on freelancing sites:

    Textbroker.com
    rentacoder.com
    getacoder.com
    elance.com
    getafreelancer.com
    odesk.com

I agree with Hebsgaard. Look at your last 6 months as 6 months of learning not failure. What other things have you tried aside from trying to rank videos in youtube? Give more details so we can help.

Patience - Patience - Patience - IM is like any other business. It takes time, careful planning, persistence, and more importantly skills. (The good thing to recognize is that all skills are learnable)

One thing you must remember is to not fall victim to information overload - this alone will cause you to jump from one thing to another (like a chicken with his head cut off) and eventually fail and quit.

Here's an idea for you that helped me when I first got strated and I continue to follow it to the letter.

Write down 10 IM goals you wish to accomplish.
Circle the one that interests you the most.
Write down all the steps and tools you'll need to accomplish that one goal.
    create your plan
Set a time frame for that one goal
Execute your plan - ( master the skill set )
Take action - NOW - ( do something everyday to get you closer to your goal and make a decision to never quit. )

Forget about everything else and just focus on that one goal until you have fully mastered it - then repeat the cycle. ( Try it - ITworks )

      Love this

OP, don't be too hard on yourself despite the money lost. Everyone else has already given fantastic advice, and I agree that you're already ahead of the pack by recognizing as soon as 6 months in what some of your major mistakes were.

I spent a solid couple years jumping from "method" to "method" without any real success (I'm just lucky I didn't have thousands to spend at the time since I was in school!) before having a breakthrough moment where I started being able to take bits and pieces of information I'd gathered from all those attempts and put them into a system or plan of my own.

Honestly, that made all the difference for me. Coming up with my own system where I could choose what information to include or exclude has allowed me to focus and really understand what I'm doing & why. Most everything I do now (that works!) is the "simple stuff" that I used to overlook.

Again, there's all the advice you'll need right here on the forums. Focus in on something, put the blinders on, and go!!

You may be adding to your problem, in terms of adding too much friction in the process of achieving your goals. My only advice here would be to try working through your convictions. As well as action, most things are worn or lost in the mind.

GT91, forget about the flashing banners and products, much of them, not all of them promise empty hope and nothing else. Instead pick a niche and work at it like as if you're digging a tunnel to the centre of the earth, because that's how hard it is, but not impossible.

Don't leave everything in your head bashing about, get a book or work diary and make lots of notes, write down every idea that you've tried and tested, adapt to new ones and even develop your own strategies.

In internet marketing everyone has something to say or a piece of advice to give, take it as you will but never assume that if a method has worked for someone else it's going to work for you.

Be patient and 6 months is not sufficient time to assess your progress if you're just finding your feet. Be patient my friend and you will do it.

Well, 1st of all, not everyone is cut out to sell things on the Internet. (Which is why some very large companies hire people to do it for them).

Take me as an example, not only am I a complete idiot, but staying on the computer more than an hour or so a day raises my pain levels through the roof. Also, my 'humor' doesn't seem to translate well in print. I mean, in person, I could sell dead baby seal cubs to Eskimos, but on-line, no one thinks that line is funny.

Another thing to consider is: If it is on the Internet, it is obviously a lie. I mean, be careful who you believe around here, (or anywhere, come to think about it). You going to listen to posts of someone who says they 'used to make $10,000 a month' but do not now?!? Or someone who say, 'Plenty of people on this forum make that kind of money.', and yet they don't?!? I mean, how do they know? (& you going to pay heed and a lot of time to what a dog says?)

Six months on the Internet is like 25.714 days in real time. Give yourself a break. Do not take failure seriously, (take the rest seriously though). Lighten up, have a drink, (unless you are in AA), and then re-focus and put your nose to the grindstone. Unless you are the exception, it takes time to navigate and implement all that it takes to make a reasonable income on the Net. (Or at least that is what the Easter Bunny told me.)

What is your job by the way !! i would be interested to know.
Please do not see the last 6 months as failure, to fail is the greatest teacher we could ever have.
Its one big learning curve but try to keep your eye off the flashing banners that promise you riches, its BS.
You need to learn the skills to build a business to success, and anyone can learn new skills, forget the big secret, it does not exist.
Do not get down please because it is doable, i came from the building industry into this game, it took time, and focus, but we found the way in the end, i work with my wife Elaine.
My biggest advice would be to say get a mentor, i can openly say i did not agree with this back when we started, but if we had got a mentor at the start then the investment in the mentoring would have saved us ten fold on the wrong roads we went down.
We make money in several niche areas and to be honest after the initial hard work most of them truck along on auto pilot, leaving you to build your business even more.
Try to look at what you know about, believe it or not i stuck a little video on youtube around something i know from the building trade and we get on average around $100 per week from just that, on auto pilot, so stick with it because you are already well on your way ok.

All the very best of luck to you,
    Steven Sanderson.

I would guess you fail because you don't have:

    a. focus (try youtube a bit longer than you did, I would hazard a guess you didn't even upload 1000 videos did you?)

    b. patience

    c. conviction (no trust in what you are doing)

    d. perseverance (give up quickly as you have no conviction)

So, how can you solve these problems?

You know the answers, now go and do it.

You must not be discourged with failure. If you think that 6 months is a huge period then know that i failed to earn even one cent in 3 years. All i did in those 3 years were failure and those failures i learnt lessons. I learnt so many lessons that i became master and now i am in a position which i could not have imagined few years back.

So don't worry and work hard and do things correctly. You will definetly taste success.
