Domain Transfer Question

Right, so I've been building a site for a client, but he wasnt in posession of his domain. The guy he hired for the original job has it and it was hosted on his hosting too.

Anyway, hes been a bit of a pain, and in the mean time about a month ago he pointed the domain to my hostgator nameservers at least, so I could get to work on the site.

Hes finally began the transfer today, of which I totally forgot about, and I'm wondering seeing as the domain is with his registrar, and pointing to my HG nameservers from that registrar and not mine, what will happen to the site when it is transfered?

Will it be as simple as once its in my posession, pointing it back to my hostgator nameservers and the site'll be fine? It will still be there and re-appear there how it should?

Yes, that should work fine - if you point the nameservers as soon as the domain is in your account there shouldn't be any break in service.

The number of web designers that register domains for their clients using their own names really annoys me! It's a problem I come across time and time again (she says with passion!). I always get my clients to set up their own account at namecheap and buy their own domain names. If nothing else, that makes them responsible for its renewal, not me.
