Is there any good automatic article submission software that hits all the directories out there? I think that using a program would be much better than having to individually submit your articles to each directory by hand. It gets very tiresome after a while, and using software would save a lot of time and energy.

Using software as in windows software, it is highly suggested you stay away from.. Many issues such as they do not submit to the sites actual categories which can cause your article to be listed wrong, cause it to be rejected, and many other issues.

There is a solution but self promotion is not allowed here .. Also you do not need to submit to hundreds or thousands of sites. Fact is a great deal of them get no traffic, ignore the so called PR because it means very little. and as far as alexa ranking well its means little also because the traffic ranking by alexa is 100% wrong.

You want to spend you time on the main top sites not useless sites that get you nothing in return..

This is just bad advice.... I am sorry, but PR does matter when it is related to the links you are getting. To say it doesn't is just irresponsible. Sure, a PR0 site could bet getting more traffic then a PR4 site. In a case like this PR doesn't matter. But, whether you think it is flawed or not Google still depends on PR to gauge a page's importance. So, if you completely ignore PR and just get links where ever is convenient then you may run into problems. The guy who doesn't ignore PR and gets those PR4 and PR5 links from a related site is going to kill you in the rankings.

Below it is my personal opinion, the information is based on my own experience and research, and do not want to misleading anybody.

    1) There are some software that submit to actual categories, you can select them from the software, and the software keeps updating;

    2) It does not matter Windows software, server software, or manual submission. AS LONG AS the software (or you) follow the guide and submit it to the right category, they are the SAME. Of course, your article has to be really informative.

    3) PR, is it important? I would say yes. Why? A link is a link. The whole google is based on link. There maybe some adjustments here and there, the link is the still the key. A PR0 page in a PR6 domain is far better than PR0 domain. These are the analysis conclusion of google's page rank technical articles. BUT, PR6 is unnecessary mean it will bring more traffic than a PR0 site immediately.

    4) Alexa rank important? Depends. The rank is a statistical #. The base is a group of peole who use alexa toolbar. So, the # could be biased. However, because the # of people in the group is so huge, it is also meaningful in statistical.

    5) should you only submit to one or two sites? I do not think so. Why? See the answer to 3). You may get good traffic for submitting to one or two sites, but you definitely missed some traffic.

    good luck

A lot of opinions being thrown around.

It would be nice to see some advice given based off of actual evidence and a few months worth of testing...which may be tough considering the big change that was made to PR on January 1st.

I cannot help but believe that PR is related in some way to article rankings, perhaps more than James believes, but less than what Michael believes...maybe, maybe not.

I'm watching a lot of my own (and some other peoples') articles, both new and old, with backlinks from high and low PR sites. I had a good idea of what was going on, but since January 1st, I have yet to come to any conclusions short of the fact that PR does appear to matter to an extent.

The problem is that things haven't settled down yet since the first of the year. One day an article will be on the first page and the next day it's on page 30-something...then the second page, then the first, then the 15th, then the second again.

And it doesn't seem to care how long the article has been around.

It is slowly settling down and articles are beginning to establish themselves in some solid places. Some good (or bad) data could be showing through any time now. Just need to see a little consistency.

I wonder if Yahoo or MSN takes into account the Google PR????

    Hi Allen,
Well what michael failed to see in my point was you do not need to submit to 1000's of article directories like many software vendors push..

Example: A1-Article Directory: Free Reprint Articles & Content, Submit, Publish Articles for ezines, newsletters, websites

Article Marketing Popularity and the Tools Authors Use

    Word Count: 529
    Rating: Not Rated Yet

Notice the date and it still has not been approved.. I test many many article directories. This is just one useless one, there are many more.. So why waste your time submitting to those useless ones just because some software says "submit to 1,200 article directories" ...

I only submit to around 20 sites per niche. That seems to do me just fine!

Sure I could spring for one of those mass-submission services, but I've tried in the past (in many different niches) and simply didn't get a response worth the subscription to the site...direct traffic or subsequent website rankings increase.

    Alan,

Your observations are spot on. I may have taken Jame's opinion out of context as related to just pure article marketing. When you are relying on a site's authority to rank and not your own. In this case, then PR will not be the only thing that matters. What will matter is what article directories rank better. Many of us have seen in the past that Google tends to favor certain directories and ranks them better. In this case, a page's primary PR is not what you should follow to a T. You should submit to directories based on what ranks.

I am not a big fan of this form of article marketing. I like my sites to rank and not someone else by pigging backing. This is just how I operate. I am not going to rely on someone else's site for my rankings. My previous statement was meant for link building in general. Which is what I do to get my own sites ranked. I am building my business. This is just the path I chose and it may not be the "right" path for everyone, but it is what works for me.

Sorry, James, if I jumped the gun on what you were trying to say and took it wrong.

Thanks Michael.. not a problem ..

I also do bookmarking and etc.. those sites matter somewhat more in PR because a diiference in what is being done..

Article directories I test manually by hand each one.. I test them just to see the results. But as Allen posted the top 20 or so will work just fine..

    Michael,

You mentioned a very important word in your last post...one that I think most people ignore to the point that it has become a rare mention lately.

That word is "authority" and it means so much more than Google PR.

Apply authority to your thinking and you'll go so much further than those who simply look for a PRx site to get a link from! Sounds like you're already on that path.

    Thanks,
    Allen
