How to tell if a site was built in wordpress or Joomla

Hey, Anyone know how to tell if a site was built using wordpress, joomla etc? I came across a firefox plugin once but I cant remember the name.

Try going to your domain.com/wp-admin, if there's a log in screen, more than likely using wordpress. If that's not the log-in screen, more than likely not using wordpress.

I say 'more than likely' since it's always possible for someone to have customized wordpress to not use that as the log-in, however it's unlikely.

I don't know of any tools specifically but it's easy to tell by looking at the page source.

search for "wp-content" as this is the folder/path for the plugins and themes and will be present somewhere in the Wordpress page source.

I guess Joomla will have a similar "marker" you could identify

  Thanks for the info. I think this is the best way to find out whether a website is build in Joomla or WordPress. I just found that warrior forum is made in vBulletin.

  What I usually do is check the source code and look for "wp-content" or simply go to url/wp-admin. I tried the link above (What the Wordpress Theme is that) and it's simply amazing.

Firebug might be the plugin you are looking for. Can't you tell by doing a view source?

Go to domain.com/wp-admin - if the page exists then it's Wordpress, otherwise it's something else.
