Sick of old advertising methods, need to be creative

hi,

guys I want your insight for a new method that might be more effective to get traffic to my website.

I have an average of 1 k visitor a day but I am not satisfied with the number.

I do SEO for the website and tried punch of online advertising starting from advertising in blog and forums related to my website, ending by buying ad spots, having ads on Google / Facebook/ StumbleUpon.

So far the only type of ads working for me is the one that I used on Google, but let us agree adsense is a little expensive . Some keywords related to me is $6 or $7 per click for first page.

StumbleUpon bring a lot of traffic but it seems to be a dead one (even if people sign in, they don't buy or sell).

I don't want to get a visitor but I want to get a visitor who will interact with the website, any ideas, anybody aware of another advertising company with good rates and better more active / real visitors ?

    Thanks Ken_Caudill,

I didn't try to target specific website with the network.

I believe the network ads for adwords is not effective enough. I usually add all network (with a fixed bid). Majority of clicks are done on many sites by mistake so visitors are not much into finding out what the website do. This is usually the case if the add is text, might be more successful with image ads

Instead of run-of-network ads, try site-targeted ads and create ads specifically for those sites. If you want, you can even target specific pages to place your ads on.

For example, let's say you have a course/product on training hunting retrievers. (I know, dog training, real original...)

You could advertise on the site of a breeder of Labrador Retrievers with an ad about training Labs. How much more targeted could you get? Same with the other retriever breeds.

You could put different ads on sites about retriever competitions and field trials, AKC competitions, product sites - all with ads tailored for that site or group of sites.

If you found active forums with Adsense, you could target specific sections of those forums with your ads.

You may not get the same number of exposures, but you are getting people when they are thinking about training their dogs. You are entering the conversation already taking place in their heads...

Have you tried advertising offline? Post flyers at some local businesses and other popular spots. It's cheap and worth a try. I plan on testing some flyers soon since I live in a college town.

The "old" advertising methods are still effective. Try advertising in relevant offline magazines and newspapers.

True, and you can even do it from a tiny one bedroom apartment.

But don't despair if you're caught by the FTC and arrested. Just serve your time and pay the fine.

I agree. I make by living as a media buyer specializing in newspaper classifieds. It is an extremely cost-effective means of reaching a vast audience. My clients tell me that not only is it cheaper than PPC, but the leads are better as they are somewhat pre-qualified by having to pick up the phone of go to the computer and respond to the ad.

If you have any questions, let me know! Good luck to you!

What type of website are you running??? Have you tried posting engaging content to your site??

Find out what the sex, age group, and income of the visitors to your site are and try posting related content to that particular age group. (Just a thought)

Also post solutions to problems - many people on the web are searching for answers - if you can provide a solution to their particular problem then you should have more visitors spendiing more time on your site.

Also why not redirect them to another part of your site that's related to what there already reading.

Here are some ways to get them to interact with your site:

1.) Ask for comments in your posts
    2.) Leave posts un-ended
    3.) Thank them for commenting
4.) Get to know your readers
    5.) Answer all questions
    6.) Keep people involved
    7.) Don’t distract them
    8.) Remove spam
9.) Keep it simple to comment
    10.) Try new things

    Good Luck

I am running a freealncer marketplace.

probably most of these wouldn't apply for this type of websites.

gushy0202 been there and done that

I am aware offline is an option and i done that for other website but to be fair it is also harder unless you will actually pay for a newspaper or a magazine (flyers are being more effective to websites where you offering free services).

Not necessarily, I find some of the best outlets for my clients ads are free community papers and shopper papers that readers get for free either by mail or rack distribution. Their free distribution normally gives them a cheaper cost per thousand, too!

Try anything with the initial coupons you get say for adwords you can get initial $100 coupon. Its more than enough to thoroughly test what works and what doesnt.

    Facebook offers $50 coupons.
Even amazon.com has come up with ads and they offer $75 coupon.

Every ad network offers coupon so you can try and find teh best ones for you..

    Try it out...

    Thank you

You may try adwords.Although Its little bit of expensive but eventually can give you a good ROI If you can run the ad campaign effectively and for this you should learn the best use of them from Adwords learning centre.

Maybe it's crappy 1k traffic, that doesn't convert.

You know, the stuff from traffic exchanges.

The first thought that came into my head when you said 1 K of traffic, was to think that traffic is not your problem, but rather converting that traffic is.

But like a previous poster said, what is the quality of that traffic?

There are two things to focus on.

The very first, is to make sure that your site is able to convert decent traffic when it does arrive on your site.

Then, and only then, the focus should be on more targeted traffic.

As for more traffic, if you are already shelling out money on PPC ads, and Adwords is getting too expensive, I would remind you to take a look at Bing, Yahoo, and other PPC (other than Google), and see if some combination of "secondary" PPC systems can give more traffic for the same cost, or even for less.

Success is an endless series of falling down and getting back up again. Sometimes, you fall a little less. Sometimes, you fall a little more. Keep getting back up. Keep moving forward.

    Hi,
I still use classified sites but only the most effective and proven of them (like backpage, craigslist, adlandpro, etc.); they drive daily traffic to my sites. I also use banner traffic, (I have more than 150 referrrals in just one of these free tools that virally boost my marketing work in a fantastic way). Another great and free tool I use is automatic marketing sites which give you lots of targeted traffic and does all the promotion for you on autopilot...really great sites to get lots of signups.

Hope this help you get more targeted traffic.
