This is just a quick note to help new Internet marketers
get a little bit of perspective on this whole IM thing.

The problem is that to many 'Guru's' have led you
to believe that IM is 'Get Rich Quick'.

Business and Marketing Is An Industry
If you went to see a speaker on Accounting and the guy
said...

"Do my 1 hour per day 'Account Blueprint' and you will
land $10,000 clients within 3 Months
" Would you believe him?

What About if you went to a Lawyer's Seminar and there was a
speaker who was selling a
"6-Figure Lawyer Magic System for an instant $100K Salary" Would you believe him?

SO WHY WOULD IM BE ANY DIFFERENT?

Focus on getting **** hot and get the right expectations.
No Millionaire marketer got rich in their first year.

Realize you are on the right path and stick with it.

For the beginner Internet marketer, I hope this helps.

I think one of the main problems is that people look to get into Internet Marketing as they are desperate for money quickly. Unfortunately these are the people that a lot of the so called "Gurus" target. It takes time to build a successful business and only a few will hit that pot of gold early. You can be successful but you will take some knocks on the way. If you can survive the first year without giving up then there is every chance you will see some success. If you look at offline businesses, many make a loss in the first year, in many cases it is the same online.

    Regards

yep, just like kimkitch said, this is a business.

Many give up because they had the wrong expectations to begin with due to all the flashy sales letters promising the moon!

For those who don't give up, they can learn from their mistakes, move on and hopefully help others avoid those same mistakes.

      Thanks for the post.

      :-)

      Great point Kim

One of the things I've learned by doing a "life audit" thus far is that every major decision I've made that was *primarily* motivated by money (and in many cases, a desperation-motivated decision) has been disastrous. I can't extrapolate to everyone out there, but I've noticed similar results amongst most of my friends who've made decisions which were primarily motivated around money - almost always the results were at best mixed and at worst really bad.

Whenever I see any offer that appeals to that get-rich-quick mentality, I have to remind myself that I'm not the exception to the rule, as much as they try to tell me otherwise. Any successes that I've had have taken time - usually far more than I anticipated, but they do come.

      • Playing the devil's avocado here for a moment...

Why should making money via IM be work? Heck, if I wanted to *work* I'd get a 9-to-5. Isn't technology supposed to improve our lives and make everything easy? With the right software tools, I should be able to just press a few keys and have money rolling in.

There's actually some virtue in this viewpoint, if you think about it. Sure, your job sucks but at least you know what to expect. Whereas if you quit and go IM, you're spending long hours pounding your head against the wall because you don't even know what it is you need to know. And you don't know who to trust.

Hey thanks for this post.. Many of us, or at least I know I have, sometimes felt like giving up. It is true that sometimes you are given false hopes if not higher than normal expectations on what and how to make it out there.. Maybe a combination of both. In either way, thanks for the advice and post..

I'm making the transition from adult online marketing to non-adult and the difference is over whelming. Although some things are the same, like contacts on forums. Others are completely different, like I never used the terms CPA or CPL before. The crowd is different and I'll bet the conventions are completely different.
One thing in both are going to be the scammers. There is no get rich secret other than doing your homework, getting your SEO done and back links and working the system.
I'm looking forward to visiting this forum everyday and making the transition to what we in the adult world call mainstream marketing

I think the problem lies in the fact that newbies are constantly told they will be rich from this product, when it doesn't make them rich they jump to the next one. It does seem to be a learning curve though, the ones who make it realise they need to be realistic and start working, they're the ones who make it.

If only someone brought out a product that said "I'll help you make $1 in your first week, your second you may make $2" it could lead a lot of people on the right track. Unfortunately no one would buy it and instead try the "program" which will make them $20,000 this week.

Flim-flam artists and carpet-baggers have always and will always be around. The con artist tickles the greed in others and makes unrealistic promises to obtain your money. That's just a reality in life.

That's a lot different from someone who offers a system that works if you work it. The problem is that a lot of people don't want to work. They want to plop down their cash and get a get rich quick scheme that only requires X number of clicks and then they want to set it and forget it and live a dreamy lifestyle.

Unrealistic expectations meet unrealistic offers and whammo, everyone loses.

The better way to approach things is for people to pick ONE thing, build a business around that one thing, work hard and work smart. Don't be greedy and you won't generally be ripped off.

Yea people keep getting distracted from the actual 'real work' formulas that will provide results by the lure of quick and easy money, The 'gurus' will keep playing on this psycological flaw making themselves a killing in the process and then selling the concept of how 'easy it is to make money online' and so the cycle continues. Are there any ways to make easy money online - yes indeed there are, but they are usually a gamble, not a business.

I totally agree with you.One of the major cause of failure for the internet marketers in making money is their desperation for making money from the very beginning.

Last time I bought an IM e-book, (which was about 3 years ago) as soon as I paid for it, $35,000 was immediately deposited into my PayPal account. Amazing.

I gave up on my landscaping biz for about 5 days now, but doesn't stop me from conduction business. I've been putting together blogs, and setting up newsletters, restudying my old marketing notes, etc. I can always go back to the landscaping biz, but for now I am focused on IM. So even though it appears as if I've given up. I really haven't.

99% of things in life DO NOT come easy. Everything take some type of work and dedication to see results. Once people understand this things become more clear.

you can't walk into a restaurant and get a job as a chef. If you're not a chef that is.

In the same way you can't walk into a job "off-line" and claim you were great at marketing if you'd never done it before.

I'm sure you wouldn't even get past sending in your CV (resume)

But many people come online and think overnight riches are reality.

Mainly because there are so many push button, get rich quick, follow my system and be a millionaire courses out there.

I am not trying to put you off but it takes hard work, commitment and a lot of learning at the start.

It is a long road to go down, but it is well worth the effort.

The one great myth that until now is revolving in IM business is the overnight success. And many of us here are right that only desperate people will hang on to that. We learn many lessons along the way while we are trying to find the "magic" formula and if you feel you exhaust all the resources you have...sooner you will want to give up. But wait, you can never win if you give up so the best thing to do is just rest and collect yourself again until you are ready to face new challenge and who knows you are hitting it right this time.

Unless you have the right mindset, you'll never be able to make it in the internet world.

I've been working online since I was 14 (now 3 years later, making $20k a year).

$20k a year doesn't sound like a lot to most people here, but at 17, it shows that anybody can do it.
