How To Guide - PDF or Within Site?

I am in the final stages of finishing an ebook/how to guide.

I am trying to figure out the best approach to making the guide visable.

Right now, I have it setup so that purchase can view the guide within the site. I have a page setup with all the "how to" information.

I'm debating with myself on having the guide has an ebook in PDF format or just keeping the content within my site.

Piracy or payment processing isn't really a concern by offering it in PDF. I just enjoy the fact that purchasers would have to visit my site to view the information, for traffic purposes.

By keeping the information within a membership style site you have more options than releasing a one-off pdf file.

You'll have their email they use to log in, as well as their eyes when they access the info.

More opportunities to put OTO's or even small banner ad offers.

What's most convenient to the end user? If you put your customer first then they'll put you first. Besides, you can put links all over the PDF to other offers or other sites you own.

Printing from a PDF file is much more convenient to customers than printing a web site. Either way they can take the information from your site if they like.

If you want them to come back to your site frequently offer then new fresh content all the time.

It seems that you already know what you want to do.

However, for most people, when they purchase, they expect
you to send them to a download page where they can get
    the product they purchased.

But if right on the onset you explained to them that the
how to guide will not be a downloadable PDF and they
still purchased it, then I think there won't be a lot of
    problems.

I agree with most replies - a PDF gives a bit more perceiveable value, something extra other than just a web page. You also have the opportunity to be creative in the layout and design of the PDF and produce an outstanding visual product both inside and the graphics used to promote it.

Not quite sure why you can not offer the content both ways. You can market it separately as an ebook, or as part of the membership.

I choose both. Both options have their advantages...

Membership site is best however you have to constantly update your site and reply to comments. If you are prepared to do this, visitors will frequent your site.

Even though a PDF technically is not "tangible", delivering the product in PDF format gives the buyer the psychological "feeling" of having obtained a tangible product instead of just being "allowed" to view the information on a website. How often do you expect people to return to your site to re-read your ebook content?

I also think that you may get more sales by delivering the content as a PDF as opposed to delivering the content as "website access".

Personally I hate having to log into read something. I'd rather have a PDF I can dip in and out off on my desktop without having to open up a browser, find a membership area login.

I think having a membership area is a great idea and you can always update and add content. Either way... once people have read your course (in PDF or by logging in and reading webpages) they have no reason to return to the members area.

Unless you update it and email them to let them know.

Think about your customers, what would be more convenient for them?

Offer it in both formats. Don't worry about the number count on your website as much.
