1 year 3 months Still No Success Online.

I have been doing IM since last year june(2010). However i am yet to make anywhere as much money promised buy the so called Gurus. In total i can say that i have made about $1,100 but about 600-700 had to go back in expenses for hosting, email marketing(aweber), PPC campaigns etc.

I've tried so many avenues none of which seems to work, well some did but only for a month or two then that's it, no matter how i tried to repeat what i did, it just wont continue.

The truth is what i am making right now cant pay the bills. I am now in debts and need some cash to settle them and to also pay my college tuition.

I am running out of patience and thinking about selling all my online assets and call it quits.

Is there anyone else out there that's in the same problem?

How long did it take you to make good money online?

Well for starters, stop buying all these crappy WSO's that claim you will make $19,347 overnight by clicking a button 7 times.. lol

It took me about 2 years, maybe 2 and a half years before I was able to start doing this full-time. Trust me, I know you are tempted to give up but please don't give up. If needed, take a break from IM and get a "real world" job. I am using quotes because to me, and plenty of other people on here - this IS a real job.

But quitting is the worst thing you could do. If what you are doing now isn't working how you want it to, then adjust your methods and techniques and try again.

In my opinion, ebooks and "courses" are COMPLETELY USELESS.

Nothing works exactly the same for everybody. Just because a "guru" makes 10k per month doing something doesn't mean you can too. Just do not get discouraged. It really can and DOES happen. But it is NOT easy, and it sure as hell is not instant.

There will be months (as you know already) where you are working free of charge, just because what you are doing isnt working. You can ask any successful IM'er on these forums.

Its not about the products you buy, but more about what you do with them.. What knowledge you take away from them.. Don't follow their EXACT course or book (if you bought a course or book) but instead, try to come up with your own style and then implement those tips into your method.

PS: Don't let my name fool you, I'm by no means a "guru" - I just thought of this username and I loved it. It fit me perfectly. lol or maybe thats just my sense of humor?

I am just successful enough to be happy and do what I want to do each day. I'm not greedy. But I do make a living online. You think I want to go to work just so I could make someone ELSE rich?? LOL I don't think so.

      GREAT ADVICE...

May I just add one thing to your post that has worked miracles for me...
Set goals and work from you're goals - here's an example:
1.) write down 10 things you wish to accomplish in IM
2.) Choose the one you feel would have the greatest impact on your life
3.) Write down all the thing you'll need to learn to accomplish that one goal
      4.) create a plan
5.) Master the skill set (focus)
      6.) Implement - Start NOW
7.) Repeat over and over until you get it
8.) Spend at least a couple of hours a day working on that one goal ( do something everyday to get you closer to your goal.)

I guess why you didn't make it, it's because of your strategy. At the start you must know what to do and what product you would like to sell. Or what niche you are going to use. Think first before venturing something.

The fact you've made $1,100 means you know how to make money online. You just need to analyze carefully what exactly generated those revenues. Then do more of what worked.

It takes a while getting to a consistent $30 to $100 daily. Once you have consistent income, it's a matter of scaling up.

Don't compare yourself to other people. Some people who succeeded took longer than you to earn their first $1,100. Other people not as long. It doesn't matter. You can do this thing. Taking a break may be a good idea. If you have to get a 9 to 5 job, so be it. Most IMrs started building an online business outside of a 9 to 5 job, me included. In fact, I found having limited time to build my online business forced me to focus on the important activities.

Sounds like you aren't being very consistent with your business model. You might be working everyday trying to make money, but if you jump ship from a business plan the first time things don't go your way, it's going to be hard succeeding.

Focus on what made you money and amplify it.

If you can do something awesome on your website, you can make money really quick. The attractiveness of your website will make you successful. It doesn't mean that you should design the site very cool. It means that make your site useful for others so people can spend more time there!

You need to concentrate on the only important task and go ahead with it.

If you like to promote cb products as an affiliate then go that way. Try to get as much information as possible on the subject and try to learn it all step-by-step.

If you like CPAs then try to test it all and find out what works best etc.

But every person has its own successful plan... I just tried to help with advice :-))

I know that alot of what's said here wont help you, and this comment may be the same, but in all honesty if in 15 months you have tried multiple things then you really haven't given time for any of the strategies to work and work well for you.

I started off selling health related products on Clickbank, it took 8 months of hard work to finally start seeing the success I'm now seeing. If I had of given up I would be in the position I'm in (a ClickBank Apex member)...

So my simple advice is choose one thing and stick with it... Find someone everyone needs and will continue to need, build a site around an affiliate product and generate some traffic (SEO).

Don't be misguided by all the cr*p out there (there's alot!), just stick with it and you'll see the success you are wanting.

I know what you want right now is to get away with your financial worries immediately but I don't think quitting is a good option. How much your virtual assets worth? is it enough to pay all your bills and tuition fees? if not, they are right in saying "take your break for a while and breath". Compose yourself and start again but don't repeat the methods that are not working well in the past. Success will not happen overnight.

Okay Jamica this is what you should do:

First implement basic strategy. He who starts off better finds it easier to finish better.

Right now you have little cash, little time, and your trying to make easy money. This is a bad formula. Why? Because you are exactly like 40,000 other people (literatly) who are trying to do the same thing.

So, instead what you should do is first get yourself a decent amount of money to invest in. Then instead of trying this and that to make a quick buck, go down to your college, talk to some business professors even though you may not study business, and mastermind with them a solid plan to build a small online company with a small amount of starting capital.

Then apply this as best you can, getting feedback from them as you progress. In addition I recommend trying to add partners to your project. Why?

If everyone is trying to start a business solo, having 2 people instead of 1 gives you competitive advantage

If everyone is trying to start a business on nothing, having something is a competitive advantage.

If everyone is following the gurus, listening to business professors with a different perspective is competitive advantage.

And as Michael Dell put it (who happens to own one of the most successful websites in the world, and is a billionaire) create competitive advantage to win.

Great FREE resource that is often overlooked. Most people don't
approach their online efforts as a business and I did the same
when I first started--I was just looking at making some extra
money. But if you don't treat it as a business you won't make
        a business income.

Note the second step on the site says, "Find a Mentor or Counselor"

That is a step that 99% of newbies miss. Early on I studied
Terry Dean's Protege program and that got me focused and
organized. But before that I was beating the air and trying
every new thing that came along.

The hundred of hours I wasted in those "Start-Page" programs!
Don't talk about posting free classified ads. But you learn
what works eventually and try to stick to the 20% that
        brings in the 80%.

    Approach this as a business.
Since you have made money, really figure out what you did so that you can recreate it and scale it up.
While you do that, somehow, add building a list in your niche to the process (if you haven't already).
Create a plan and stay focused on that one method and one plan for months if necessary so that you really give one method a really good shot at success.

        Please don't give up!

I'm in a very similar situation as you. I started around the same time, and I have also earned about the same amount as you. But October has been a BIG turning point for me. I've gone from making around 2-5 sales per month to an average of nearly 1 sale per day.

As others have said, do what worked for you before, and try and scale up on it. You're already miles ahead of 90% people who try out Internet Marketing. Set targets, and do everything you can to reach it.

I would have to say that if you have been able to make over $1,000 so far then you are far better than many who have yet to crack the $100 mark. As suggested by someone else, simply concentrate on what made you money and keep away from what subtracts. If you go by the videos and gimmicks you see on those Clickbank product pages then you will feel miserable as these guys claim to make thousands in one day! That is what a sales pitch is... Great advice from everyone here.

Since you are in debt and need money I would suggest that you offer a service FIRST. Are you a writer? Not everyone is and that's okay. But what can you offer? Can you offer virtual services? Can you transcribe stuff? Are you good with WordPress? Start there while you continue perfecting your IM.

Oh and don't forget to create your own product. And no, you do not have to write it yourself. Hire a ghostwriter. If you can't afford that, buy PLR and rewrite. Do what you have to do but please, don't give up. It will happen for you - not as the "gurus" said it would but it will happen. Keep at it. IM is mostly about persistence. See the top marketers here - most of them have been here since 2004. What does that tell you? 1 year plus is too short a time for you to consider giving up. Stick at it okay?

    All the best,

It's not bad considering you managed to make some revenue in your first year online. Not many people are able to do so. For me, it took me like 3 years before I made my first dollar online. Don't be misled by the gurus into thinking you're able to "get rich quick" with IM. My suggestion for you right now is to get a part-time job. Congrats man, you've actually made some money online. That puts you in the top 5% of people who try to make money online.

My advice is to focus on what made you that money in the first place and then rinse and repeat. I know you said you can't seem to repeat it but just keep trying.

It took me months to make my first sale online, and to be honest I was beginning to think that I was wasting my time. When I made that first sale It gave me new energy and I began to focus on what gave me that success.

I checked your site and see where you're building a list, which is a good thing. What you want to do though is build a list of buyers. This will only come by creating your own product.

You've made money online so obviously you have some skills. Whether it be building websites or driving traffic, you can share how you did it and since you've made money you have proof that it works.

Just keep at it, even if you have to take a regular 9-5 to pay the bills, don't give up on your internet business.

You may be a lot closer than you think to success

A lot of people chase the "Get Rich Quick" dream and end up buying a ton of products with nothing to show for it. (I'd be willing to bet that almost all of us did when we first started out.)

And when you have something to say start your own post. But whatever you do when you start a post ask specific questions or give specific helpful info.

Just a couple of more words of advice your signature is a direct reflection of your skills and lack of skills. Those links you have in your signature are affiliate links (which is against WF rules) and you should change them. Why not set up a blog and put your affiliate links there. Then post the link to your blog in your WF signature.

Have a signup box on your site to start building your own list on your blog. Make sure you have original and helpful content on your blog. Not just the affiliate links. Especially if you have used and been even moderately successful with the products you are marketing. Talk about what you did with them and give some tips. Don't just write a review.

    Now I'm done preaching.

You've got lots of good advice here. I'm not the first to say it, but you MUST stick to just ONE thing. Don't stop until you've made it work. Then you can start adding to that. So if you don't think you've had success, decide what ONE thing to move on... blogging, facebook ads... whatever. Then just do it ad nauseum until you've made it work. Good Luck. You've made money already, so you CAN do it over and over and bigger and bigger. Just stay focused.

      Hi OP,

I was in the same boat as you. I had a site up and running for 2 years and wasnt even making enough to cover the hosting, however in the past 3 months I have seen a massive uptick in my fortunes.

I can only base this on offering a new deal on my website which is currently in demand by a small niche of my niche (if that makes sense!) and am finally getting healthy conversions.

So as others alluded, pinpoint what made you the $1100, try and replicate and upscale.. and good luck

Don't pay out money, just pay for your hosting. It would be all good if you weren't paying out so much. Do you do affiliate marketing? Google Adsense? Those are my two main sources of income. If you have great content and great SEO, the rest will come, I promise. You've got to give something valuable to your readers.

Making a profit from the internet can take some time and it usually does especially when you are trying to learn everything there is to know. You cannot expect to learn it all quickly and make a ton of money your first year. Depending on your current knowledge, it really depends on the person and their goals to become successful.

I have seen people become successful within a year but they have had experience before and know what they are doing. I have seen on average, complete newbies able to start earning after 2 - 3 years. But like I said it really depends on the person and how much work you put into it.

Myself personally, I started back in 2005 and it took me over a year to see any type of profit (just a few bucks) but I learned quickly from my mistakes and have had greater success within the past years.

Just set a game plan, stick with it, work hard, and stay positive.

It took me many months to make $16.00. However, I only really started making money online when I stopped thinking about ME and started concentrating on what my customers wanted!.

I gave away a lot of good information, mainly in the form of tips done via video. I created a huge following both on Facebook and Twitter. I then monetized this content with good quality affiliate products, mainly selective WSO's.

I then created my own WSO, this was a 10 video course on how to make Camtasia videos, this sold hundreds of copies, I just kept growing my list and it finally worked, I now make a good income from IM. But if I had given up early on, I'd be back at the JOB by now!.

It's out there to be made. If you don't have a lot of money, there is a huge amount of free information out there to use.

    All the best to you.

You need to make yourself a business plan and stick with it. Jumping around and trying different things can and will complicate things for you.

I started marketing in December 2010 with the help of my mentor within six months I was making a profit, not much but it was something to work on.

I'm now working on building my email list and things are looking better all the time.

So Nicolas the best thing I can tell you is to stick with a plan and stay involved with the WF and things will work out. There are plenty of good people who are willing to help...you just need to reach out.

I am new to this also. I have tried a few different things, havent made alot but I did make some.

Today I made $65 from Bluehost by referring someone to them through my affiliate link.

Put a ebook about anxiety onto the kindle store, I made $6.50 commision for the month of Sept.

Again not alot but enough to prove to myself that it does work and just have to find something that works. Keep your head up.

The success on the internet depend of the product not the magical techniques . Also if you try to implement all techniques you never will be successful. This is my testimonial I am a software developer in the past I tried all magic formulas to sell my software and not accomplish anything. Now I understood, not is the formula that brought success, but the product, now I have developed a good product. I have sold over 1000 copies of the program in 3 months which is not bad.

Find a good product to sell and with the help of God you will be successful. Sorry for my bad English.

taking up a day time job shall definately help. as everyone has suggested keep doing it - take it as a hobby till it becomes a good source of income. Spare a few hours on a daily basis and let your income/profits snowball.

also if you are doing promotion of Make Money online products, you might have read a post a few days ago - in this niche it is difficult for beginners to make money. This is so because here people understand the things and buy from their own affiliate links, unless you offer very good additional value for buying from you.
So try a niche where people are simply looking to their solution for their needs - other than making money online.

The first year in this business is certainly the hardest and everyone wastes time and money finding out what works and what doesn't. The fact that you're still in the game after one year gives you a real chance of becoming a success online. Here are a few ideas for you to try.

    >> Fiverr.com - This allows you to buy and sell micro services and is great for getting paid on any services like backlinks, article writing, squidoo lenses...... that you can provide and finish within 30 minutes and is also a good site for outsourcing.

    >> Facebook Fanpage - Great way in which to promote your own and affiliate products by using the "notes" facility. This can be found by typing in "notes" or downloading the notes app. You can create content on any related product, upload images and use HTML in order to make your links clickable and is a great way in which to gain extra sales. Google index these pages within two weeks and they always highly ranked due to Facebook being a high authority website.

    >> Office Org 3.2 - Is a great office suite which is free and an effective way in which to product reports and e-books which can be converted in to PDF for all computers to view.

    >> Gimp 2.6 - Is a a graphic manipulation site and is a great free tool for copying, cutting and pasting your images for any reports, e-books or screenshots for your websites.

    >> Google keyword tool - This is a great free tool for any keyword research and should always be used prior to using any of your future keyword phrases.

    All the best

You've already made some profits online ($1100+) why dont you reinvest this money in what you were doing? Being successful is not an overnight success but an ongoing process.

Like others said, you've made money, you're doing better than 95% people online or offline who try to make money on their own.

Rinse and repeat, stick with what works and stop jumping from one thing to an other.

Nicolas, My advice to you is to revamp your entire thinking.

Understand that those trying to sell to you don't give a damn if you succeed or not. You're the only one that can put yourself where you want to be. Harsh, but true.

Now, you made some money, which good, this should tell you that you have the ability to succeed.

Don't follow the hype, the hype draws a crowd, and crowds consist only of followers.

Just sit down and build your business, find one method and implement it until you master it.

How long did it take you to make good money online?
To answer the last question first, I'm still not making good money online. But, I'm making some money, and I'm learning enough that I think I can direct my plans for the next stage.

My problem sounds like it's yours: Shiny new object Syndrome, or IMADD. Which could be Internet Marketer Attention Deficit Disorder, or I mad, damnit. Take your pick

My advice, for what little's it's worth?

    1) Stop buying stuff. Now. Put a moritorium on purchasing new things, unless you get to step 4 and decide the item can be applied to multiple projects.
    2) Go through all your projects. Sort them into what works and what doesn't.
    3) Ditch the projects that don't work. By don't work, I mean have made $0, or whose earnings are so low as to be useless. That Google Sniper Site is great, but if you're seeing $1 per month in adsense revenue, it's not worth keeping. Let the projects go, or sell them cheap.
    4) Look at the projects that have worked in the past. Try and dial in why they worked, even if it was for a short time. There's a reason you made money, you need to go back and find it. Once you find it, apply it again to your existing projects. If that means fresh content, get content. If that means tweaking an adwords campaign, tweak it. Ask questions in here if you're unsure what might have worked.

The problem is everyone wants to make lots of money, and fast. And for most, it doesn't happen. Sure, many gurus have gone from nothing to something in a few months, but you have to think about the amount of work they put into that.

And, you have to remember part of the reason the gurus are so successful is they have a team working for them. When you're starting out, hiring people to help you write articles, post on blogs, etc, just isn't cost effective. So, you have to do it all alone.

Take a look at what you did that made the money and expand on that. Also, what do you like doing? If you like a certain direction, programming, writing, etc, then that's a big clue to what's going to be the best direction for you. Also, honesly, 1.5 years is not that long. How long would you go to school to change careers? Any internet marketing has a really steep learning curve. Just hang in there. But don't go in to debt any more!

Well you haven't failed until you quit. So keep trying and keep searching for nichs. The sites that did work for a month or two and made you some money should make you some more if you add some fresh content or new offers and such. It took everyone awhile till they found the thing that makes them money but it always happens eventually unless you quit.

To succeed online you will need a solid business strategy that is proven to work, for example list building.

Take consistent action over time and you will see results, just keep plugging away and you will start to succeed. just dont try and do too much for example, adsense or other business strategy focus on one in one niche and give it your all.

Sounds like you're too busy worrying about how to "make money online" to create an actual business model and providing a product/service.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm assuming you don't have your own product or service that you're marketing online?

Here's my advice (not to say I've 'made it' in the IM field, but just read on...)

Think of a SOLID BUSINESS idea, research, do marketing research etc... JUST LIKE ANY TRADITIONAL BUSINESS...

Then INTEGRATE internet marketing tactics AROUND the business.

Treat IM as just ONE AVENUE of marketing and sales channel and not the foundation of your business...

So many folks who enter IM seem to think that IM is nothing more than build-site-rank-get-traffic-then-money-will-come-no-matter-how-crappy-my-product-or-service-is...

That's flawed right from the start.

What's your product? What's your business? Don't answer "I'm an internet marketer" that's not a business, that's not a product... That's just a title and nothing more.

If you're a writer, your products are articles/write-ups/books etc.
If you're a salesman, your products could be cars, oven toasters, condominiums, shoes, etc.

You need to establish what your CORE PRODUCTS and business is, then find out how you can use IM to drive sales.

If you spend more time trying to think of how to generate traffic, how to build sites, how to rank sites, etc. more than is there a market for my product, is my current product the best that i can make it, and does my product fill a market need, then you've "failed" already as a business...

I would genuinely recommend you focus on building a mailing list. Send me a message if you need help. When people say "the money is in the list" they have a reason for saying that. Good luck!
