Facebook to Change Advertising Forever?

I found this interesting:

From Mashable

"It's a cycle that has the potential to redefine the way we interact with brands. From now on, brands will be friends or friends of friends rather than spammers trying to bombard your consciousness. "

This just reminds me that I'm really under-utilizing social media.

I loved this part of the article:

..."What we need to do is go beyond the core audience, not only from a box office perspective but from a brand-management perspective," he told me at the time.

In other words: You don't need to let Star Wars fans know that a Star Wars movie is coming out, but you do need to target all those millions of people who are on the fence about Star Wars or are too young to remember it.
Very true indeed. Reach out *beyond* your audience to those who *might* be interested in the future or on the fence *now*.

ie, the advanced 2.0 of 'tell a friend!'.

    Nice stuff, thanks for sharing.

This directly applies to this forum. Sure, I launch WSO's but my WSO's are real products I sell to the general public for a higher fee. As a result, I make money outside of the WF bubble.

I suggest others would do well to expand outside of our little world here.

I agree, there are loads of constant WSO contributors that must make a good chunk of there earnings from just selling WSO's.

Expanding beyond your immediate audience can go two ways though.

The warrior forum and general MMO marketing forums have a particular kind of person that understands the accronyms of the "IM Niche" (or most do at least) and gaging from the recent WSO I bought if you took them away from the forum and sold them to the general public.

Then alot would struggle with the wording and even what a "squeeze page" was for example.

We all may know what on is, but do the general public that have never heard of he WF, MMO niche know?

So re writing to make it more user friendly or include a glossarry could help, as the first MMO product I sold away from the marketing forums, quickly had my inbox flooded with questions on what was an "anchor text" or whats a "backlink"

I guess sometimes its easy to sell to a in the know kind of audience than to break a product down so its as easy as doing your A,B,C's

    Thanks,

    Colin.

That's not just a case in advertising or sales, it's the same in every other aspect of web... and I would say we can witness changes to better each and every day... of course, to better for those who can handle those changes...
