I'm not female, but have worked in the adult industry.

5 ... stands out more and fits in with the current design trends. Use a vibrant pink though, like the pink on 3, but a bit more contrast. Without the globe too.

I like the looks of #5, but it doesn't match with audio romance stories. Looks more like it would be a dating site logo. So, #6 is my favorite for the kind of product.

I prefer number 2 but I agree with Suzanne. It definately does not feel like a romance site. Jack does not 'do' Jill in romance novels. He courts her

Disclaimer: not a female, but what the heck!

#5 is the one that catches your eyes and attention immediately. But I have to agree with sbucciarel... it gives the impression of a dating site. For "romance", I'd pick #6.

Also, since when has Jack been doing Jill in romance novels

Number 6 is the most romantic looking to me, but not with the word 'does' as it reduces love purely to sex, and that is just not what romance is (supposed to) be about.

I would assume that a site with a name like this will not be romantic - to be honest I would think it a porn site, heh.

Never mind the logo do you think the name is right? Not very romantic, makes me think more of sex and not romance.
In terms of the logo's, I am a brand consultant and they all seem very old fashioned and fussy. Number 3 is probably the better one but still needs work, the typeface shouldn't be all uppercase and the .com being under the title doesn't work.
I am female by the way, it seems to me if you are going after the old grannies you might be ok but the average modern woman deserves better and more clever design and thought.
Hope this helps, not trying to be negative but positive.

Sorry, but I don't like any of the logo's. They are old fashioned and boring and considering that I am on the wrong side of 60, that says a lot!

As for Romance aimed at the ladies - with that title - I don't thinks so! What you have is a title that says "men here is a porn site for you"

Based on nothing but design, #5 is the most eye-catching, but based on the image alone, I would assume it was a dating site.

      I hope this is helpful:

While romance novels do contain sex, the emphasis is always on the romance, the dance, the attraction happening between the two people involved. I think that a name like Jack Does Jill would only work if the entire series was created specifically for hard-core stuff.

Harlequin's steamiest series go by "Blaze" & "Desire", both rather tame when compared to "Jack Does Jill".

I do think the concept is awesome, though.

Change the name of your site. In this day and age, women deserve better! They want to be cherished and loved . . . not "done."

If your site is about romance, the name is totally off-base and you'll only be attractive to the porn crowd.

I wouldn't be surprised your site gets banned at various search engines and ISPs simply for the name.

Please forget the logo for the moment -- rethink your approach.

I'm definitely with the other ladies -- your point of view will give your target audience the shudders.

Women want romance, not... what men fantasize about.

So, since your site is aimed at women, approach it from a woman's point of view.

    Example: "Jill Loves Jack".

You can do better than "Jill Loves Jack", but the emphasis MUST be on Jill, and it must be convey feelings, rather than rampant you-know-what.

Good luck with it; it's a great concept, and you'll do well. But please, get a woman or two who loves romance novels onto your team. At the moment, you're thinking like a man. Women just don't think that way... (Generally speaking, of course.) :-)

Sorry to come off like Captain Curmudgeon but you sure you are capable of writing a romance novel? Perhaps you are but you're getting off on the wrong foot.

If you're taking on this project because you own a jackdoesjill domain perhaps you should consider changing from traditional romance to light erotica.

Some guys just simply aren't wired to write about romance. If you feel you are then I would go with "Jack Loves Jill" and then put emphasis on a tagline like "A Novel You Will Fall Head Over Heels In Love With." OR "A Novel About Falling Head Over Heels In Love." For graphics I would depict Jack and Jill tumbling head over heals down the hill.

To get out on the far-side for a minute it could be argued that Jack didn't really fall down and break is crown, but that in falling hopelessly in love with Jill he, like all young men who fall in love, lost his head and Jill came tumbling (in love) after. The hill, wasn't a hill at all but the heightened feeling of exhilaration that accompanieds falling in love.

Sorry but I did say it was the far-side. I'm back not

If you're going to write about romance write about "love" not about "doing." The guys may like it but the ladies won't buy it.

      Respectfully submitted,

      Ernie Mitchell

OK, so, like, I am confused.

I assume that somebody's getting romanced or something here. But... the question is, is it Jill, or GIL? The jpg image title plainly says that Jack will be doing Gil. Now, whoever Jack does is no business of mine, but I'm getting a different flavor if it's Gil who is being romanced.

All that aside, I asked my wife, since I'm not of the gender you seek. But she is. So, she says #6 without a doubt.

#1 looks old school. #5 looks like Sherlock Holmes is the hero of the novel. #2 looks too uber unromantic or something, #3 is bland, uninspired and built around an ancient bit of clip art, #4 would work if the setting of all the romances is squarely in the Little House on the Prairie days, and #7, besides a crappy font, really stresses the DOES part of Jack doing Jill.

#6 is not perfect, and she thinks there is somewhat of a disconnect between the softer, frilly fonts and moon(?) light with the romantic implications, and the higher octane, less romantic sex that "doing" normally alludes to. Might have better luck with jackdoesjill.xxx. I would listen to my wife.

  • I'm not a female either...
But of the choice options - IMO #6 would attract the readers in the niche you are looking for the best...

But I also have to agree the domain name probably would not do much for the genre you seek.

If those books were written for men they would be about 4 pages long...they don't call them "romance" novels for nothing...

As a former member of Romance Writers of America...I have to say I agree with all the comments above. Your name is based on a man's point of view and not what would attract a woman who enjoys reading romance.

If you're aiming more for readers of erotica then none of the logo graphics match that audience. I think you should define your audience carefully before you continue.

      ^^^ This.

I agree with the general consensus of views above.

3 and 5 are eye-catching. 6 is perhaps most suitable for the intended genre.

But it's hard even to consider them in the context of this name, which sounds as if it's going to be a porn site - nothing like "romance" at all!

As others have mentioned, there is no romance and no appeal for women in the name "Jack Does Jill."

        More romantic:

        Jack Eludes Jill
        Jack Tempts Jill
        Jack Attracts Jill

Do yourself a favor and come up with a more suitable name before you start working on the logo!

Thanks again for all of the input.. After reading some of these a light bulb went off.. A multi-million dollar light bulb..

so.. Lets ignore the name for now.. Say it was Jack Loves Jill or simply Jack And Jill and again for romance audios, flyers, reports, books, whatever.. Which logo looks best..

Also ladies I love getting input from you especially because you make decisions based off of multiple things... A lot goes into your decisions, so with that said why are you choosing the number that you are choosing? Is it solely based off of design, color or both?

    Thanks again.. Much appreciated ;-)

Guess that depends on what type of romance novels you've been reading. :p lol

Ok, as for the artwork, it is all way too busy for logo material.

I also agree with the name of the site - kinda raunchy.

I don't really care for any of them because I think the text is flawed to begin with.

I suggest you go to a local book store and look at the book covers. You'll begin to see similarities in the way bodies are positions, etc even though the covers are quite different. What you need to grasp is the "attitude" of the covers and then translate that into a logo. The "does" doesn't do it.

I don't read romance novels (with exception of JD Robb). I prefer Deaver, Koontz and Dekker, Iles, Straub and King - good complicated murders and serial killer plots - but I have noticed the graphics on romance novels seem to have a pattern that is recognizable for the genre. The woman often is the dominant image with the male image set back or off to one side. Romance novels are not stories about "love" - they are stories about women in love - thus the female buyers.

Jack does Jill is not romantic in the least. Sorry. The others have also pointed this out but here is an additional point:

Romance novels are not about Jack, ever. They are always about Jill. Romance novels will always have a female POV.

The romance genre covers a wide range. I have a friend who writes romances that have western settings. The main characters make love but they would never have sex just for the sake of sex.

Another friend writes for Blaze which are more graphic then a lot of other romance. Her books are also hysterical and great fun to read. The characters can get by with a little sex for fun. But in the end, they'll fall in love.

I have another friend who writes inspirational romance. No sex outside marriage and the stories always stop "outside the bedroom door".

My only point is...romance can vary a great deal. If you're going to try to cover it all then your logo and name will need to be somewhat general. If your books are going to be more graphic then the name and logo can be more graphic, too.

I don't like any of them but if I find a site that has great content I don't really care what their logo looks like.

However, of course I would never know what kind of content your site had because of the name (which I think you are saying you are changing?).

Check out some of the "chick lit" romances in the bookstores (like Rachel Gibson), just browse the shelves. Look at the cover designs, it might give you some ideas for a logo that would look a lot more modern and eye-catching than your current choices. Just a thought.

Number 2 for me, instantly drawn to it; looks slick and not over-cooked like some of the others.

Runners up, after looking a little longer are 6, 7 then 1 (though the dress in number one is too long and wide, looks more like a rain coat).

5 and 3 might look better within the context of the pages, but the colours clash and look a bit 80's.

Finally number 4, hate it. It looks like something my (70 yr old) mum might like.
