Would you hate this if you were on my list?

Hey all...

I often hire out projects like article writing or backlinking.. the typical internet marketing work that is needed for maintaining a success business.

I thought I should start offering these small freelance projects to my list instead of looking on the public areas like odesk, elance, or even here.

I figure I will find much better workers who are truly looking to succeed by making online with my systems. I had to survive with freelance work for about a year of my IM career so I know it's necessary.

Would you have a problem with a list that sends out job offers every so often?

I offer lots of great quality content to my list. So it's not like I'm turning my list into a job search market. I just need an article writing here or there... or I might want a website designed.

I've never seen anyone send out work requests before to their list, so I'm wondering if it's already shown to kill your list lol.

Travis

I've had emails like that on occasion from other marketers so I don't see why it would be a problem. I know it never bothered me to get them.

A list that offers money rather than asks for it. I can't see people having a big problem with that.

      Exactly.

I think most people would find it a breath of fresh air to see someone actually offering them money for a change.

Great way to stand out from the crowd and really engage your list too.

I would not be offended. And I think it is a brilliant good idea.

The people on your list have come to know what kind of quality you expect, so they are more inclined to give you the kind of quality you require.

Working with freelancers through other sources is typically just a shot in the dark. As such, I think your approach will be more productive.

Nope, I wouldn't mind if it was an IM, home business, etc type list. But if it was a dog training list, well, that would be another story.

    Why not?

There could be some very talented people on your list. I think it is a smart idea..providing you phrase it right.

Perhaps go for a third party approach ... "Say, does anyone know a good php coder? I really need some clever stuff done and I want to pay more than a *fiverr* to find a real pro. If you think of someone, shoot me a mail."

We're talking about an "Internet Marketing Advice" sort of niche, in which they're people who know something about IM, presumably? Not something I'd want to do with any of my own niches, I have to say (but they have nothing at all to do with IM interests) ... but if that's the market/niche, and you don't mind them knowing that you "outsource stuff", I think it's a very good idea.

I think it's a great idea. I like Paleochora's idea to put it into a third party approach. People enjoy helping other people. If you were to offer a writing gig and the person on your list is not a writer but she knows a writer who needs work, she will contact that writer. And what do you know? A friend of a friend might want to get on your list...

Another option is to create a segmented list specifically
for the purpose of providing freelance opportunities.

That way, you get to identify who is interested (and who
      is not!).

You'll also be able to count how many people you can reach
out to to perform your tasks.

In addition, you'll be able to e-mail them more frequently
because they've already given you permission to e-mail
      them on that topic.

I guess it depends upon how often you'll be sending out
these type of requests, whether they're standalone or
included with the other content and what the people
signed-up for in the first place.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

I like that idea a lot Shaun. My major money maker is creating micro niche sites so outsourcing is something I need every day. A separate list is a great idea.

I have had a few email like this over the years. But like you say, almost no one offers it. I don't see a problem with it, and a lot of people would probably rather buy from someone they kind of know than go out and try to find someone on oDesk or one of the other platforms. Hiring outsource personal is never easy so being able to deal with someone that you have done business with before it probably better.

You need to know your market and who your customers are. I would not offer this if the majority of people on my list were wealthy private jet owners or personal injury attorneys. My list for my SEO biz is mostly brick and mortar biz owners so this would not work for me. This is why you need to know your market.

I think it would actually lend you further credibility among the people on your list. Would you be offering to pay them for work if you didn't have a real business going? They'd make the connection, if only subliminally.

Jon Leger - creator of TheBestSpinner - did this a while ago. He sent out to all of his buyers of that product that he was looking for someone to come on and spin articles for him. I believe he was looking for multiple people and was paying a pretty good rate.

I remember seeing a ton of Apps on his forum so I expect he ended up with some very good workers. I thought it was great to offer it that way.

I think it's a really good idea, and it wouldn't bother me at all. It'd be a refreshing change, actually, from the constant bombardment of emails telling me about the latest, greatest, potentially life-changing WSO that was just launched!

I think that's a genius idea. Coupled with the template you shared recently, you sir have some brilliant ideas for email marketing. Being one of my weak points, these are 2 solid ideas I will use in the future.

    Hey Travis,

You can also offer to "help them build their list for free"...

Meaning - they do some work for you and you send a solo ad to your list for them

    It's all in the perception

Ryan Deiss has sent out several job offerings to his list over the last few years... I remember seeing them. I think every now and then would be alright but maybe you are better off asking who would be interested in receiving those types of emails and segmenting your list appropriately. At the very least make all those emails very obvious by putting something at the beginning of the subject line such as... [WANTED]... so those who are not interested know not to open them.

As long as the offer was relevant to the subject of the list I wouldn't blink - I might even be interested in the right offer, depending. Now if you are asking people to wash your car or rake leaves, I'm thinking you might find a few unsubscribes. LOL.
