Question: Affiliate Links

I was sitting down and suddenly this question popped up in my head. I understand that affiliate links stores a 30/60/90 day cookie (depending on the affiliate program) that are kept in the client's computer whenever he clicks on an affiliate link. So the next time he visits the website through a non-affiliate link, he can still earn his comission.

Ok, Now lets say the client visits 2 seperate affiliate links (same website and product) from individual A and individual B. The client goes to individual A's website to look at his review on a product hes buying and click on invidiual A's affiliate link, not convinced he leaves and finds for more reviews before buying the product. After that, he leaves and visits individual B's website to learn more about the product through the reviews and clicks on the affiliate link (same website and product) of individual B but is still not convinced and goes to sleep. The next morning he wakes up and is finally convinced so he doesn't visit any of the affiliate link but instead goes to the main website(the original website URL without affiliate link) and buys the product.

Who gets the comission?
What happens?
I am confused !

Please respond, thanks !

    Hey,

I think it's different with each program. For example, Clickbank says the following about this:

"Q: With HopLinks, does the first or last affiliate get the commission?
A: When a purchase is made, the commission is awarded to the last affiliate who referred the customer to that particular vendor."

So in your example, affiliate B would get the commission.

But, I think it varies from program to program so you'd have to find out directly from who you're working with.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks
    Eleanor

It is almost always the last cookie, however it is based on the company/network and their systems, not affiliate links in general. I would say its very rare to find a first click, it tends to be more unfair than last since there are so many sites and shady posts on the net, people may find themselves cookie stuffed and never knowing.
