Would You Buy A WSO Without PayPal As An Option?

For reasons I'll discuss in a separate thread or blog post I'm considering not using PayPal as an option for most of my products in the future.

Even though a good portion of my customers (around 33% in niche markets and over 50% in the IM niche) use the PayPal option when it is available, my initial testing (which has been pretty extensive over the last 2 months) has shown NO decrease in conversions when removing PayPal as a payment option.

However, I'm wondering if the same would be true for a WSO?

Last night I opened every single WSO on the first page of the WSO section and I noticed that every single one (other than the freebies) offered PayPal as a payment option and all but 4 offered ONLY PayPal.

My question is...

If you wanted to buy a product (specifically a WSO), would you still buy it if PayPal wasn't offered (only Credit Card)?

Interesting question! For me, I'd prefer to pay by PayPal. But if a site doesn't have PayPal, I don't mind paying via cc so long as I don't see anything "suspicious" with the site or the vendor.

    • My feedback is:

      NOPE!

I DO NOT share my credit card information over the 'net!

I have done this a couple of times and ..... never again!

I'm not just referring to WSOs, I mean in general .... any site with a product offer!

      Hope this helps!

      Cheers,

      JMB

I would not have a problem using a credit card, but I am not your normal IMer.

Someone once told me that IMers treat their PayPal accounts as their Monopoly Money, and therefore, they are willing to gamble on more purchases through PayPal, but not so much from other payment funding sources.

I think that is right to a certain extent.

Non-IM consumers are more inclined to use regular payment methods, but if you eliminate PayPal as a funding option in the IM community, you will eliminate a lot of people who would buy from you otherwise.

I don't have a credit or debit card, just my PayPal so that is all I use. Not to mention, I have this rule about only spending money on IM I made with IM, so that means my PayPal money.

However, I do wish more people would use AlertPay. I have built up a bit of cash on there I can't use because no one is accepting it.

If I wanted it, I'd use a credit card or use my PayPal debit card like a credit card. That is, as long as there is a secure ordering method.

I would not, I don't like putitng my CC number anywhere online. And I like the convenience of being able to look in my PP history, in case I have forgotten something that I purchased.

Most of my transactions are via PayPal.

Outside of PayPal, I don't mind using my credit card on the Internet if I am dealing with an established seller (and by that I mean a big name retail company).

I am very very reluctant to part with credit card, debit card or cash back card details over the Internet. Mainly due to perceived security issues and partly because of all of the form filling required. Name, full address, country, email, phone number, mobile (cell) number and on and on, almost every time you purchase.

The beauty of using PayPal is that you don't spend a third of your waking day filling out forms.

So after the above, my short answer is not NO, but I would be VERY, VERY RELUCTANT to purchase from any forum, using a credit/debit/cash back card.

          Just my thoughts,
          Jeff.

It seems a lot of people forget this is an option. I use my PP debit card all the time.

I definitely would not want to input my card number anywhere. I always try to use paypal, and avoid using my card as much as I can

    My answer is : NO.
As a rule, and unless I know the marketer personnally, I do NOT buy without Paypal, especially recurring stuff. The reason is that it's much easier to stop payments (recurring) on Paypal and much easier to get a refund with Paypal too. I've had VERY bad experiences with marketers that did not accept Paypal. Lesson learned.

I wouldn't as I like having all of my expenses in one place. Yep, I use accounting software but using PayPal imports data automatically.

    An interesting question Ryan.

In my offline business I have used my credit card to purchase products from all around the world and have been doing so for a lot of years now with no problems. So I have no concern about using my CC online.

However I just don't use it in my IM business. I did in the early days before Pay Pal became fashionable but now I find it just so convenient to purchase through Pay Pal.

I buy a lot of WSO's but if I had to fill in a credit card application each time! forgetaboutit. Sorry but I'd be a customer you would lose.

Yes. I've seen some WSO's that go off the reservation to buy anyway.

If I want it, I'll buy it no matter what method.

PP is fine for an option, but why are we building their kingdom at our expense?

I'd have to say no for the following:

I hold USD in my Paypal account, so that enables me to avoid currency conversion penalties from AUD to USD.

If I use an AUD credit card, I cop a currency exchange loss as well as a foreign currency transaction fee.

And frankly, for such a small amount, I can't be bothered filling out a CC order form.

First, it depends what other options you provide. AlertPay ? Escrow ?

For WSO I think it is tough to go with other option, after all PayPal always stand in the buyer side

I personally may go for AlertPay since I do trust the AlertPay too, but tough to say that everyone will be okay with that.

Sometimes opting to use another payment processor is a wise move depending upon the products you are selling but there are precautions you can take assuming you are considering risk?

PayPal is not the be all and end all nor should it be treated in such a way. All eggs don't below in any one basket and payment processors are no exception.

Remember too that you don't need to use PayPal directly in order to receive PayPal payments which aren't connected to your PayPal account. Plimus and 2CO (to name two) let the merchant accept PayPal as an option. Plimus still requires the buyer to complete a form though.

If your product shines I'm going to go the extra mile to acquire it. It's that simple.

I don't have any problems with credit cards are sharing my information.

I think a huge valid point to raise is, if CC is the only option it might be noting that not everyone has a credit card...

Another vote for Paypal. As others have mentioned I generally hold a lot of IM related funds in my Paypal account so I would rather use that than my cc. I also agree that people tend to be a little more impulsive with funds in their Paypal account.

Your question is specifically on a WSO and my answer is no. Over 50% of your customers in the IM niche use PayPal, not what sure why you would even consider taking that off the table.

Sure you've done testing but still. Why not just offer both options, make everyone happy.

You must have your reasons, not sure why you don't just share that here vs. splitting it into two threads but whatever.

Ditto. I"m much the same. Even though I'm based in Australia, I sell in USD as most of my customers are either (i) in USA or (ii) used to buying in USD.

PayPal is notorious for shocking conversions back to AUD - therefor I always keep a few K in my PayPal account for what I call "incidentals"... like WSO's..... or the new office chair I bought last month, air fares etc etc.

(Note for Aussie's - Webjet now takes PayPal for some airlines!)

It's pretty rare that I buy anything online not using PayPal.

I have purchased WSOs that took credit cards only. If I want the product, I will pay for it with other payment options, like 2CO, Amazon Payments, Google Checkout, credit card, etc. I doubt that I would sign up with AlertPay, Liberty something, or some of the other payment gateways to purchase it.

Personally, I prefer to use PayPal, because it's a way to use up funds in my PayPal account, not to have to withdraw them to my bank (and being in Europe I can't get a PayPal debit card), and perhaps not to lose out on the exchange rate/currency conversion.

That said, if I wanted to buy a WSO that didn't have PayPal as an option, I'd be perfectly willing to use a Visa or MasterCard instead, and/or to use Google Checkout, 2CheckOut or whatever. Just like Suzanne, above, I wouldn't go to the trouble of "joining something new" (and especially not "Liberty Reserve"!) just to buy a WSO.

But that doesn't matter very much, because Suzanne and I are not your problem, here. What matters is that there are thousands of people here from many different countries who can buy WSO's only by PayPal, and not having PayPal available as a payment option will lose the opportunity to sell to them.

I only fill in my credit card info if I am familiar with and trust the payment processor.

I'm happy going with other major processors, but not an unknown
