Submitting Articles to Top Directories...and The Case Against Spinning Articles

Two questions from a semi-n00b here:

1) Everyone keeps talking about submitting articles to the top article directories...what exactly are they, and if there's a list/link to website, can someone hook me up?

2) I hear from a lot of fellow Warriors that article spinning is basically worthless, yet sometimes I see a WSO and/or email sales letter touting one. What gives? Is it really worth my time?

BTW, I have a few...two of them were free, and one of them came in a package that I picked up for next to nothing.

What say you?

While I would prefer to let Alexa or someone more qualified answer this thread, I can direct you to at least 2 threads that may get you headed in the right direction.

Again, I am not the authority, but the consensus is that the backlinks generated from most (mass) article directory sites are so poor that they are NOT worth the effort.

Also, there's no real value in spinning articles as the results are quite often jumbled garbage. I personally would avoid 'spinning' articles altogether, and search through the article syndication threads, as you'll find there are tons of FREE "Golden Nuggets" by some successful Warriors within nearly all of them.

I would start there. I could also mention that as opposed to buying an article spinner, you could look into the "Directory of Ezines" (aka DOE) there's some great info there.

    Hope that helps!

That's true. In fact, the Google Panda updates of this year has adversely affected the article directories, including the major ones, with a massive up to around 90% drop in traffic. These article directories were considered content farms providing low quality content. Consequently the traffic and backlinks from these directories were affected adversely.

Many marketers are saying that article marketing is still effective. You have to submit only top quality content though.

You can do a search for the best article directories to submit articles to and see which ones come up in all of them. Everyone has their favorites.

Here is a short list of directories that are considered good by some marketers.

      http://searchwarp.com

As for article spinning there is an article submission site that has a sort of built in article spinner that they call "Article Leverage” It does not make a hash of the article. I wrote a review of Submit your Article here:

On that note, I would like to add to the OP's question, that all is NOT lost, and that there are effective strategies that can drive targeted traffic, great backlinks, and generate consistent revenues from article marketing.

The problem being, the words "article marketing" often tends to open a "can of worms" as there are (at least) two types of translations as to "How to" do it effectively. You have those 'pushing' the article spinning methods, which I too almost dove into... and you have those who have long-term success avoiding the pitfalls of 'cutting corners' and do it right.

Hence, I think if the OP reads through, the answer is clear which path to chose.

I believe the others have pretty much cleared this up, but I wanted to give you a little tip that will help you in the future.

Article Marketing (the old methods) are no longer as powerful as they were before the Google PANDA. Instead you need to use article syndication, which is much more powerful for both traffic and backlinks.

The difference is you not only get to use the power of the directories, but you can also take advantage or providing content for ezine publishers, newsletters, authority blogs, and many other outlets. Here are a few threads that might help you with this.

There's really not much point in submitting to more than one or two, Cowboy. Ezine Articles and maybe one other.

On this question, these three little threads will help you:-

No - it isn't. Even one or two of the people who were until recently selling backlinking services here, which involved a spinning component, are now thankfully starting to admit that when they tested it extensively by comparing it with "not spinning", they found no advantage from spinning and have changed their service accordingly.

    Spinning is nonsense.

This one thread will tell you what you need to know.

I say that the time spent reading slowly and carefully the threads to which people are kindly linking you, in their answers here, will save you an enormous amount of time later, which might otherwise have been completely wasted.

    Good luck!
