The domain name I want contains the plural version of my keyword but it is taken. The singular version is available but the demand is not nearly as good as the plural version.
Would it be better to take the singular version or opt for the plural with a suffix like "guide"?
Thanks.

I like appending targeted words meself to my domains.

Also, though, ask yourself, how will you promote it?

If it's going to be made into an authority site, keyword reliance becomes less.....

    Hope that helps.

      Why not do both?

Buy the singular and also buy one with an appended term. Domain names are cheap ($7.49 at Godaddy).

You can re-direct traffic from one to the other. Or put up two sites and drive traffic to both. See if one outperforms the other by a lot and make that one your main site.

Another solution that some use . . . add a "z" to the end for the plural form, like playgroundz.com instead of playgrounds.com.

You can also append with very short beginnings or endings like "pro," "usa," "ez," "xs," "my," "the," "hq," "ltd," "get," "try," etc, etc, etc. You get the idea. Be a little creative.

The first bit, getting both, I would agree with. Covering all bases that way.

The second suggestion, adding z. I personally think this can cause confusion. I recently saw a van with the website of a plumbing company on it. Later when I got home and wanted to look at the site, I couldn't remember the 'funky' way they had spelt things. It was something like 'CleanWindowzRUs', but I got bored of trying the various permutations of which word was spelt which way and went to another plumber

I really think it is better to use conventional spelling where ever possible to avoid any possible confusions.

Please tell me what you mean by an authority site?

    Hi,

If you are looking for the specific keyphrase to match search data, then I would suggest grabbing the plural exact match and appending "guide" or whatever is relevant.

I've been useing the keyword PLUS only one letter at the beginning or at the end, and that works pretty good for me on the SEO side.

    Just my 2 cents...

Hey Joe..nice approach..how exactly will that help in SEO purpose as well..I mean do you create domain like "MainKeyword+x". X is the extra letter is it?
Doesn't it make SEO bit difficult since x attached with the keyword makes it a totally different word..just curious

If you take the singular version and optimize the webpage for the plural version it should not make much difference to your ranking. Google is smart enough to recognize the plural and singular version of a word as relevant to the same search.
