You can hire someone on this forum to do your eBook project.

Copyrighting and copywriting are two very different things.

There might be something on John Locke's blog of interest to you: he sold over 1,000,000 Kindle books in the first half of this year (having very little previous experience, and not having written a book before at all).

Joe Konrath's blog may help, also: there are recommendations there about ebook covers and many other relevant issues.

  • Writing biographies is a very specialised field, and you'll find it difficult to collect together original information, rather than simply copying from other people's hard work.

You'll really need access to people who know the subject to interview, to at least form a basis for the biography. Now, depending on the subject, you may be able to do this in a cost-effective manner, but it's unlikely for mass Kindle publishing. You can supplement this with other information, but your own research will need to be the heart of the biography.

You might also find a market for writing biographies for lower level celebrities (e.g. local celebrities, reality TV stars), who have some following, but not enough to attract big name publishers.

However, there are other fields for Kindle publishing which are much easier to break into.

I hope that you plan on putting more effort into your ebook's grammar, spelling, and punctuation than you did in this post.

You do need to worry about it. Brian is 100% correct.

Every thread and post you start on this forum will affect your credibility and subsequent trust people place in you.

If you're going to advertise the fact that you intend to start writing ebooks, you better darn make sure for starters that there are no spelling errors in your threads and posts.

To say it doesn't matter for now is pure laziness and demonstrates a clear lack lustre and unprofessional attitude towards your work.

Take this as a criticism if you must however the advice given here is purely to help you if you take such advice freely given on the chin.

Ignore it and your credibility will suffer. Along with your sales figures.

    Sorry!
It is not laziness, i am just a little tired. So once again, i ask sorry for it. And i have to admit, i never thought about the credibility in the forum, that was a mistake, thanks for the critics.
They are for my improvement and i gladly accept them. I am looking, for a way to make money, as all of us here, and i thought this way was one of the best for me, i start writing slowly, but when i start the article is enjoyable, i think it is at least. Writing in English requires more attention to me, because i am not a English native.
so i am still trying to figure out if i will do the eBooks in English or Portuguese, maybe both i do not no...
I still need one enjoyable market, that can makes me money...

All the more reason then to simply use a spellchecker.

It doesn't get any easier, for example you can very easily copy and paste all of the text into Gmail as though you're writing out a new message to someone. Done? Click on Check Spelling, top right of the email message box and automatically each spelling error will be highlighted in yellow below.

Right click on each misspelled word in turn, choose from the options the best spelling which fits your chosen word, if in doubt, simply type it into Google which will also very quickly give you the correct spelling and away you go.

When you're done, completed in Gmail correcting the spelling, click on Done (top right again.) Voila! Dead easy. And a massive improvement on your own efforts.

rosetrees is right, portuguese may be the way to go...

any niche is worth exploring as there tends to be less competition.

The Portuguese market is small, but still, any market deserves to be explored, and kindle doesn't have eBooks in Portuguese, not many at least... Maybe it's not a bad idea. I should write for of specific niche or go to the translation and publish translated eBooks on kindle?

Even if I correct every sentence with a spell checker in the end it won't be totally correct.

I wouldn't assume it's a small market, not only is there your own country of course but all of Brazil too. That's a massive market you can tap into if you market / position yourself correctly.

On your 2nd point, it may not be completely correct granted but... it'll still be a massive improvement overall.

Why Biographies? can you write biographies for a person that is interesting and with little competition? It seems like such a niche market.

Nothing wrong with niche markets in fact - you can make a lot of money in what might appear on the surface to be very small niches.

I know of one guy recently who created an eBook on edible mushroom collecting and natural woodland foraging, not a large niche by any stretch of the imagination or so you might think...

...yet he launched the product and in less than a month of launching netted himself $30,000 in profit.

It's often these much smaller niches where you have the biggest successes. It's not about the next million dollar niche launch for many small time marketers. What it is about is creating a $5k launch here, a $10k launch there, a $25k launch here, a $30k launch there - rinse and repeat. Simple.

It's these smaller niches at times which can pack a real personal financial punch not your latest weight loss, Facebook or whatever other mainstream Internet marketing product which has been flogged to death and saturated into the marketplace.

These smaller in-demand niches can command just as much interest if marketed and positioned correctly. And chances are, with good sales copy, you can reach a lot easier into the subconscious mind of your target market than you can for example selling an online marketing product where so many people are immune to the sales persuasion language used.

I need to do my research about it... In the end things like
        How to
        Quickest way to
        Fastest Way to

and so on are also applied to Portugal, i just need to find what...

Rose Anderson, that is one great idea, i can do a partnership with that, i have a friend that runs one web page about Resorts In Portugal, and so on.

About the Bio's, yes you can write them to very specific guys, or just gather a bunch of them. Just Write Biographies in the Google Tool

Thanks for all the cool tips

You could also write about tourist spots in Portugal. Off the beaten path places that only a native would know about. Then have someone edit it to correct any grammar and spelling issues.

      For example...

For stealth camper vans or people with motorhomes.

I've actually done something very similar to this myself where I live since I know of some 50 plus places at least where you can park overnight amidst stunning scenery and not a parking charge or a wheel clamper in sight.

Small niche, big demand. People WANT this kind of information. You're giving them something highly valuable in exchange for your insider knowledge. Knowledge which they can put to very good use, costs them very little financially but the emotional reward is massive and definitely worth investing in.

Do you mean for foreigners that want to learn of the own natives? The natives do not care about the language. The idea from Mark Andrews about the Van is viable, for all countries. Talking with you, is amazing, the ideas are coming up, thanks

Say an American wants to learn Portuguese (or and English person - or anyone else actually) They don't only want text books - they want other materials to read. Where can an American find practice stuff in Portugese - that isn't too difficult, and builds on stuff they have already learned?

Look at some of the popular language learning programs and see if you can write something appropriate for someone at various stages of the program.

Now that the cost of publishing has been significantly lessened (Print on Demand etc) or removed (eBooks, Kindle etc) everyone thinks they can ''just write a quick book'.

I am a published non-fiction author, both of books and magazine articles. Let me just clarify the process of writing a non-fiction book - like a biography.

First you need a plan, what are you going to include. From this you can create a research plan, deciding who you will need to contact for information, and where you will be researching your subject. Copy/pasting from Wikipedia is NOT writing a book, by the way. Even if you spin it.

Next the research stage begins in earnest. Your book needs to be different to any existing books on the subject, or else there is no real point in your writing it, and no point in anyone paying to read it.

So you will need at least one exclusive source (like if you had access to interviews with the subjects hermit brother) or a unique angle so you can perhaps include material that has not been included in previous biographies. For example, a link between the subject and something or someone else (like when people write about Kennedy and Monroe or a book on a famous actor's war service). Obviously you need grounds to make this link.

You wil need to include references to your various sources to give your book credibility, so must sort out a filing system for organising this as soon as possible.

Then you will write the actual book. I am not going to go into this bit as clearly is is a massive subject in its own right. I am going to assume that if you are considering writing a book then you have already written shorter pieces in the past and feel you are experienced and confident enough to undertake a longer project.

Now the biggie. You MUST have your book edited and proofread - especially as English is not your first language. Ideally by a professional, but if funds are short then at least get a friend with strong English skills to read through it for you. I would personally say that if you feel you have a great idea for a book, and can handle the writing, then you should also feel it is worth investing in professional editing/proofreading to make sure it is the quality product you want it to be.

I am an experienced editor and proofreader but I still make mistakes in my own writing, all the time. I therefore still have someone else read through my articles and such as I know that is far more reliable than trying to spot them myself. It is very, very hard to proofread your own work, and practically impossible to fully edit it. Trust me, any experienced writer will tell you this.

Next you will need to prepare your manuscript to be published in Kindle format. You will need to either outsource this or learn how to do it yourself (you may of course already know how).

You will need to add a table of contents (usually required in a book), especially as it is not possible to have an index. You will need to ensure that the book has the relevant required information in the front (yes, there are certain rules) and that it is correctly justified. Kindle handles font size and pagination so those are not required unless you want to make another eBook format version. You also need a GOOD cover. Books on Amazon are indeed judged by their covers, I assure you. A crappy one will doom your book before you start.

Finally you publish it on Amazon and start the process of marketing ...

I wish you the best of luck in your venture, and if I can be of any help, please PM me.

(I give it twenty minutes before someone points out an error in this post - such is the nature of writing and proofreading, heh)

This was so informative as scary :p
Will I have to write a lot of guides about Vans, before start writing a bio?
I don't mind that, I like to write, most of the time my ideas, even if they are wrong. I love Architecture, but it is not a good niche to write about. Write about other topics like "how to do stuff," I don't mind doing it, I like to do research, and I have patience to do it, so is not a big deal...
No one will spot an error in your text, no one is looking for it.

Telling it as it really is - this is the advice and depth of research you need before attempting any book or ebook, report etc. Don't you get fed up with "all you have to do is..." or how you can have your own ebook sorted in a day or two... Do the work - reap the rewards. It pays in the end.

Azarna you make some relevant points however you're complicating things. Making it sound a lot more difficult than it has to be.

Any new information publisher reading this is going to perhaps assume this is an extremely difficult and laborious process when in fact, quite the opposite is true.

K.I.S.S. - Keep it stupidly simple.

To the OP, if you want more information how to massively shortcut the above processes for a very good slice of the available and potential profit, tell me so below and I'll share with you via a private message exactly what you need to do in a very easy to understand format.

This will be so easy to implement you will literally be laughing all the way to the bank. And I defy anyone to argue the point with me.

The hardest part is none of the above in Azarna's lengthy post, it's actually just having the self belief to crack on with it and do it. It really is as simple as that. Just getting started is often the most difficult part. I'll explain more to you later if you request the info.

Stuff the hard way of accomplishing this goal - who wants to go down that route? Why make things more difficult than they have to be? You can still provide high quality information which is in great demand that people will readily give you their money for and you can earn a very tidy little profit every single day.

As I said above, there's no point in making things more difficult than they need be.

        Best,

I want the info, I want to learn how to do it. So any help will be great.
I will start with small things and then I will evolve and do more, and better.
Daft punk has a music called harder better faster.

          It says this:
Work It Harder! Make It Better!
Do it Faster, Makes Us stronger!
          More Than Ever Hour After!
          Our Work is Never Over!
I will train it, I will evolve, and do it better. Simple

The OP said he wanted to write eBooks and do it properly, not just make a fast buck, so I went out of my way to explain in some detail how a professional author writes a non-fiction book.

But I am in the wrong because there are 'massive shortcuts' which you are noticeably not prepared to share.

My apologies for boring you with my 'lengthy post'. I was only trying to be honest and helpful. Clearly I am ignorant of how people do these things nowadays.

I will keep my stupid attempts at helping to myself. Thank you for making me feel useless and a failure.

They speak your language in Brazil right? Talking about a huge market, search the internet on what kind of information people from that country would like to have. Trial and error untill you got what you are looking for.

Remember that you should put fun upfront, try to write about your interest.

Do you think that I should put the English Market behind me and try to rank at the Portuguese one? Seems a stupid question, but believe me it is important.

First of, there aren't any stupid questions,! What can be answered by some, can't by others.

Going through your posts, I would say go for the Portuguese. Don't put the English market behind you entirely, after all practice makes perfect!

You need to treat this like a business and if you are going to do this yourself there are certain decisions you need to make. Brainstorm everything you know about and make a list. Then take each topic and see how many chapter headings you can get out of each one. Next subdivide each chapter into separate segments. You should quickly find out where the gaps are and where your strengths are. Focus on your strengths and make that the subject of your first ebook.

Next you definitely need to get hold of John Locke's book How I sold a Million eBooks in Five Months. It's full of brilliant ideas as to how you should market your ebook. Quite simply no matter how good or even how unique your ebook turns out to be even if you sell it at 99 cents it will not sell unless you market it.

Maybe they say it because they want no competition? Still, make decesions on your own experience. We can only give you our perspective, but you need to experience this stuff by yourself to make a real educated decesion.

Just out top of my head; Create two eBooks, one in English and one in Portuguese, market them them exactly the same way (One pinpointend on the English market and the other on the Portuguese obviously). And see what eBook gives you the best results.

I would concentrate on writing about what I know that others could benefit from. Biographies require a different approach but I do believe anything is possible so I am not going to tell you not to write biographies but there is a lot of work in writing biographies and if you are not experienced enough you might have to get some help with it. That being said, I am always a believer in going for it; just make sure you are prepared.

I see your writing is not perfect but I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt here. If you have desire and drive then there is nothing you cannot learn or put right. You read to me like you have ambition so you must have some sort of drive and if you are willing to put an effort into your projects then do not let anyone or anything stop you.

I would concentrate on compiling a package that you are readily comfortable with. You must have knowledge that someone would be willing to learn from. You could concentrate on that. That is my advice.

If you want good ebook covers there are many places to go but try fiverr (just Google fiverr).

    Best of luck,
    Steph

your plan of starting ebook is quite complicated, that is not an ordinary topic. Starting it is the hardest part but as what they told you here that Warriors for hire can help you. I know that after this first ebook, you will be inspired to venture to another ebook of your interest. Good luck.

      @Azarna,

Thank you for an excellent explanation. Maybe you have an ebook there.

      @Drakedestroier
I would like to add that if you plan on doing anything with Kindle and Nook through which to sell your ebook, check their distribution in your country and your own language. See what is selling and maybe get some ideas that might interest you.

Lol don't worry with that... Álvaro Cunhal as an amazing history, although no one remembers him anymore, at least the teenagers don't know him, and don't even want to know who he was... It is sad. Thanks for the advice until now

Search in the net for 25 de Abril, Capitães de Abril, A revolução dos cravos, and you will be amazed with the information that no one reads. Go to youtube and search for Grandola Vila Morena, that song is one of the most important things in the Revolution, and no one listen it...
