Best membership site monthly pricing: $27/month or $29/month? Does it matter?

Which is a better price for a monthly membership site?

$27/month

OR

$29/month

Does it matter? Is there any psychology with this? Will the $2 difference encourage or discourage people from joining? I noticed that a lot of Internet marketers use $27 a month, but a lot of more traditional "corporate" type businesses stay away from the magic number 7 and go with $29 a month.

I like the 7 but somehow it makes me think of "scam". Maybe I'm just a jaded person and been burnt too many times by the big Internet "marketers".

Does a 7 or a 9 really make a difference? Has anyone tested this yet? What have you found to work best? What price looks more "legitimate" to you?

    Why don't you use both, For example set the price at $29, then cross it out and give a $2 discount for a "limited" time

    You will have to test it. From my experience IM products end in 7, consumer products end in 9

    I think the number 7 has a bad reputation now. It used to be a lucky number but all the Internet marketing "syndicate" crowd wrecked it.

    I have the same question too. I just don't understand why don't make it easy to count with $30.

    You have to test which works best for your specific product and niche.
    On some niches, prices ending with 7 may work better than 9, but on other niches it can be the other way around.

        Sure, however I've noticed that most products no longer are advertised as for example $29.97, they are shown as $29, unless you're looking at a receipt or checkout or something. As for if the $2 makes a difference, sure it does. Let's say you work on this product for a while, and build some hype, and release this quality product and get 1,000 subscribers, that's a $2,000 / Month difference. I don't know anyone who'd say No to any extra money.

        Psychologically, I'd have to agree in saying the 'Lucky Number 7' is more unlucky now, as it's been killed by the 'IM Gurus' that scam people. Anyhow, I'd personally use neither and either go for a flat $30, as it might look like more, however it emits less of a 'scam' feel. Either that, or you could offer it for $1, and then push OTO's that match it for more, so that the buyer is enticed to purchase those, and you make the full price + the $1.

        Yet another thing you could do, offer the first 7 days for $1, and the $29 afterwards.

    I know this wasn't an option, but I'd also test $19.99 the fact that it's under a $20 bill will increase your sign-ups and renewals dramatically. The $27-29 price level screams $30 and I truly feel that's a red flag for online purchases. If you have to go over the $20 try $24.95 Just my .02

    $27 vs $29 will make hardly any difference at all, I can guarantee you.

    If you want to split test price, then test significant variations like $29/month vs $19/month.
