Moved to a new city.. opportunities..!

Hey,

I've just moved to a new city.. it's a busy holiday destination..

I'm just wondering how I can monetize being here..

One guy here has created a 'CityName Life' magazine. He's an awesome photographer so he really enjoys it. The magazine is released monthly and has high quality images of restaurants, attractions and events. He's selling adspace in his magazine plus getting photography and web work. It's an awesome idea in my opinion. Of course, it's a lot of work and he's got in early and done a ton of networking to make it happen...

As for me, I'm looking at dominating the searches for 'monthly rents cityname' then going round on foot and documenting all the decent places with tons of info and images - then taking a commission on every person I put in a room...

We're all marketers or aspiring marketers.. any ideas / brainstorming

    By holiday destination city, do you mean Winter Holiday as in Christmas only or more like all holidays?

      When I hear the words destination and city used together, I immediately think of tour guides or more along the lines of putting little-known information in front of people unfamiliar with their surroundings.

      It might help to think along those lines.

      All holidays. Sorry about that. Yeah, a place where people visit any time of the year to relax in the sun and on the beach.

      A bit like that guide in Hollywood that takes you on a tour of all the famous peoples houses. Ingenius idea - I imagine it's been copied tons now. The tour guide idea is cool though - but as you can imagine the locals usually have that area covered.

    Observe the place and check what is the best thing to do and will probably click in town. And if you found one that is very interesting, start it to monetize.

      Listen.

      Do mini interviews with a smile on your face. Ask how they are enjoying their time there.

      Listen.

      Ask what they are looking for. What did you have a hard time finding? (etc)

      Listen.

      Ask a lot of questions. Identify new markets. Create solutions.

        Thanks, but very vague!

        I'll give another example. Create an 'expats' forum. They purchased citynameexpats.com then advertised with business cards in every expat business, and with stickers put up in every toilet they can find! (tacky but it works!). They then sell advertising on the forum which is targeted towards expats i.e. tv abroad, uk newspaper delivery, foreign food imports etc..
